Sabres are now cellar dwellers

‘”We probably outplayed them five-on-five, but our special teams weren’t good enough,” Buffalo captain Jason Pominville said. “We took a couple penalties that we probably shouldn’t have taken. They moved it around our zone pretty good and were able to score. That falls on us to be more disciplined.”‘

Better late than never, Regehr scores

‘”It’s been a real tough year on a bunch of fronts,” Regehr said. “We got off to a really good start, the way we wanted to, and then we’ve dealt with all kinds of issues. We’ve had injuries, having 8-9 guys out at one point, losing, a streak where we weren’t able to score, to not playing good defensively, to now where our special teams are struggling.”‘

Cunneyworth adjusting in Montreal

‘“All that doesn’t even matter,” said Cunneyworth, who’s promised to learn French, about the commotion his hiring caused. “It’s really all about the team. That was my focus at the time. That’s my focus at this time as well.”’

Back on the air

‘While some are happy the Sabres are back, others are disappointed with the way the team is playing. One man who had been setting up an internet feed for his mother-in-law observed, “It’s possible to watch; the question is whether they are worth watching.”‘

Bills, Sabres stuck in mud

‘Something needs to change quickly, but it more than likely will go on business as usual. The front offices of both teams will continue to talk about progress and being patient.’

‘”We are all aware of the trade deadline. You never know what could happen. Many players are worried and think about it, for sure. On the other hand, it is not our job to watch that. We must play hockey and win games. This will happen will happen.”‘

‘Montreal’s 24-year was again ignored by the head coach Lindy Ruff, last night. Gragnani played a single game (5m 12s play time) during the last nine of his team. This is the 14th time this season that he was scratched from the lineup.’
