Sabres, Miller jump for Roy in shootout

‘”I’m just happy to get some wins,” Miller said. “I guess it doesn’t really matter who it’s against right now, but we know they’re a very good team. We had to play a good game to beat them. Those do feel good.”‘

Five-point gap in race more than a stretch

‘Forget about fans being optimistic vs. media being pessimistic and let’s instead be realistic with a quarter of the season remaining. Standing before the Sabres now is a much taller order than the challenge they treated like a speed bump a year ago.’

Sekera jumps in at the right time

‘”I tried to play a sound defensive game and when there are openings sometimes I’m trying to jump into the play,” Sekera said. “Sometimes, it works and sometimes it doesn’t.”‘

Sabres win quiet, tight contest over Bruins, move closer to eighth place

‘“We got our eyes set on eighth,” Sabres coach Lindy Ruff said. “It’s going to take one heck of a run still. You got to give the guys credit. They’ve been locked in for a good period of time.”’

Sabres rookie Tropp recovered from concussion, back in NHL

‘“It was frustrating at times,” Tropp said Friday prior to playing his 14th NHL game, a 2-1 shootout win over the Boston Bruins inside the First Niagara Center. “But I think I took a few positives out of it, learning how to channel those emotions into positives.”’

Roy scores to seal Sabres 2-1 SO win over Bruins

‘Buffalo (27-27-7) jumped ahead of idle Tampa Bay to move into 11th place, five points behind eighth-place Florida.’

Buffalo 2, Boston 1 (SO)

‘”We were on our heels for parts of the game, but I thought we weathered it well then dug in our heels,” said Buffalo head coach Lindy Ruff. “They created some real good chances that we wanted to stay away from, but I thought our guys did pretty good overall.”‘

Sabres Edge Bruins 2-1 After Shootout

‘Boston pounced first in the shootout on a David Krejci goal, but Miller was perfect the rest of the way, denying Tyler Seguin, Patrice Bergeron, and Benoit Pouliot. Vanek and Roy found the net for Buffalo in the shootout, with Roy’s goal proving to be the winner.’
