Sabres remain in a deep freeze

‘They have just five goals while losing all four games on the trip, and have been outscored, 46-15, during the 11-game skid.’

Gare, Numminen get chills in return to Winnipeg

‘”It was a different kind of building, shaped different like the old places were,” Numminen said. “The stands were close and unusual. The fans were right there and you could really feel and hear them, especially during the playoffs. They made it crazy. I still remember the ‘Whiteouts.’ Just wild. I don’t think I ever felt anything like that.”‘

Power play helps Jets down Sabres 4-1

‘”You’ve got to win that battle,” Sabres head coach Lindy Ruff said of special teams. “We had a tough time getting shots through. They got theirs.”‘

Winnipeg 4, Buffalo 1

‘”They have a good first ten minutes at the majority of their home games,” said Miller. “They have some speed, and I just had to kinda weather the storm. I was prepared to do that. I thought we could get out of there without a goal against. Couldn’t get a stick on one, and it put us behind.”‘

Jets Take Down Sabres 4-1

‘Patrick Kaleta and Nathan Gerbe both left the game early and neither returned. Kaleta suffered a lower-body injury after blocking a shot in the 2nd period.’

Jets 4, Sabres 1

‘Buffalo has now lost the first four games of a season-high seven game road trip by a combined score of 19-5, and close out the first part of the trip Saturday in St. Louis against the high-flying Blues. The Sabres haven’t won a road game since December 3 in Nashville, and play four of their next five away from the First Niagara Center.’

Slumping Sabres seem to be in need of a shake-up

‘There is a cry among fans for the Sabres to make a major move, preferably to land a No. 1 center. This team could use a flag carrier up front. But that level of deal would not be easily accomplished because the Sabres are at the salary cap limit. Plus, there a handful of teams looking for premium offensive players and there are few available. The compromise solution might be a 1950s-style trade, one player for one player with the hope of giving one line a new look.’
