Leino’s lapse dooms Sabres

‘Leino attempted a behind-the-back, through-the-legs pass as he carried the puck into the Chicago zone early in the second period with the score tied at 2-2 and the Sabres competing well against a Chicago team tied for the NHL’s overall lead in points. Duncan Keith easily intercepted it and fed Marian Hossa for the breakaway goal at 5:36 that sent the Sabres to their 10th consecutive road loss.’

Montador moves on, but wonders, what’s up?

‘”I know they’re having tough times but they have guys who can make plays and they have guys in the net who can steal a game, too,” Montador said. “Part of their situation is definitely the injuries and no team would make excuses. Those guys would never really say it and I know [owner Terry Pegula] came out and said it and it’s true. There’s just so many competitors there that nobody’s satisfied with the way things have gone.”‘

Blackhawks send Sabres to 10th straight road loss

‘“We’re not dealing well with adversity,” Buffalo coach Lindy Ruff said. “Until we learn to win again, you won’t win on the road.”‘

Chicago 6, Buffalo 2

‘”It just seemed like they were playing better and with confidence once they got that lead,” said Pominville. “For us, it was the other way, we fell behind and it took the life out of us.”‘

Blackhawks Rip Sabres 6-2

‘After a Monday night massacre at the hands of Detroit, the Sabres’ woes continues Wednesday in Chicago.’

Blackhawks 6, Sabres 2

‘“We did a pretty good job battling back; we felt pretty good with our game. We made it 2-2, but it was kind of a tough turnover they ended up capitalizing on,” said Pominville. “After that, it seemed like it took a lot of energy out of us. They were playing better, playing with confidence. It was kind of the other way for us.”’

Sabres stuck in franchise funk

‘However, a pro scout for an NHL team, who spends a lot of time watching the Sabres, says their problems seem to be more psychological than physical. The scout noted Regier and head coach Lindy Ruff have run the team together for more than 14 years and their core group of players have been together for a long time as well and wonders if they don’t all have a collective case of the blahs.’
