Sid the Kid has passion to be great

‘"He would have ran away with the game, just like Gretzky did," Sabres coach Lindy Ruff said. "The game is a lot tougher now. He’s still thriving in a tougher game. The depth of players in the game now is a lot better going back to the early ’80s, when teams usually had one good line or possibly two."’

Well-traveled Stuart returns to the show

‘"I think [patience is] the biggest thing for a pro hockey player, especially one in a position like that," he said. "I’d finally gotten comfortable in Atlanta, so to speak, and a couple offseason trades and I ended up in the Calgary organization. Things didn’t work out there as far as getting some time in the NHL, but you just stay patient and keep working hard, and hopefully you get the call sooner or later."’

‘His time with the Sabres figures to be significantly longer — they signed him to a three-year contract worth $3 million per season — and, if the early evidence is any indication, extremely productive.’

Sabres&#8217 Miller, Connolly out with groin injuries

‘Both have groin injuries and were ruled out by coach Lindy Ruff after practice Tuesday. Ruff says Miller is close to returning after the goalie practiced for a second straight day.’

Adam shuttles off to Buffalo again

‘But while his first two call-ups were briefs — in each instance, he was with the Sabres for just one game — Adam might have a chance for a longer big-league stay this time.’

Injury bug is quickly spreading

‘"You’ve got to give him credit for trying to get through, but he just feels it’s hurting his play," Ruff said. "He’s a better skater than what he’s shown, but it isn’t working the way he’s trying to get it done, so the best thing to do is have it cleaned up."’

Sabres’ Niedermayer sidelined after surgery

‘Ruff also indicated that forward Jochen Hecht is questionable for Wednesday’s home game against Pittsburgh after missing Monday’s practice with an upper- body injury.’

Adam and Stuart recalled from Portland

‘This will be the third recall of the season for Adam (6’2”, 215 lbs., 6/18/1990), who is tied for the Pirates team lead in scoring with 19 points (11+8) in 17 games. The 20-year-old is also second in scoring among AHL rookies, and has played in two games with the Sabres this season. Adam was selected by the Sabres in the second round (44th overall) of the 2008 Entry Draft.’

Injury update

‘Ruff spent much of his media availability on Monday updating the status of injured players. In addition to commenting on Miller, Ruff also revealed that Rob Niedermayer underwent a “minor arthroscopic knee procedure” today and would be out of the lineup for at least two weeks.’

Sabres Niedermayer out 2 weeks after knee surgery

‘Coach Lindy Ruff said after practice Monday that the operation was performed earlier in the day to relieve a buildup of fluid. Ruff said Niedermayer had been attempting to play through the injury since first feeling discomfort during the preseason.’

Sabres&#8217 Miller and celebrities take to catwalk for Steadfast Foundation

‘Miller said he hoped to raise about $200,000 from the event in an effort to build on the more than $650,000 previously raised.’

Pominville: Everything but net

‘Pominville is coming off a 24-goal, 62-point campaign. His career averages: 24.6 goals and 61.2 points. This year: One goal and four points.’
