December 26, 1988

The Sabres trade Adam Creighton and future considerations to the Blackhawks for three-time 50-goal scorer Rick Vaive and future considerations. Vaive scores 74 goals and adds 62 assists in 190 regular-season games with Buffalo.

 

December 26, 1995

At Pittsburgh, 18-year-old Martin Biron becomes the fourth-youngest goalie in NHL history to start a game. Mario Lemieux, Jaromir Jagr and the rest of the Pens proceed to smoke Biron in the first period and chase him to the bench. The Sabres lose, 6-3.

 

December 26, 1998

For the second year in a row, Dominik Hasek posts a shutout on the day after Christmas, this time blanking the Devils in New Jersey, 2-0. With the win, the Sabres are 10-1-1 in their last 12 games and in first place in the Eastern Conference. But they lose the following three games and fall into a long winter's nap.
