At the Aud, Roger Crozier records his fifth shutout as a Sabre in a 0-0 tie with California. "The score should have been 10-0," says coach Joe Crozier of his team's failed chances on Seal goalie Marv Edwards. It's one of the earliest "should have beens" in franchise history and the first scoreless tie.

Incredibly, Erik Cole of the Hurricanes is awarded two penalty shots. In the third period, he beats Martin Biron on the first, but he¹s stopped on the second try. It¹s the first time in NHL history a player has had two penalty shots in one game. The Canes beat the Sabres 5-3 at HSBC Arena.
