November 6, 1986

A day after the Sabres' third straight win, Scotty Bowman steps down as head coach to concentrate on his duties as general manager and director of hockey operations. Assistant coach Craig Ramsay is named head coach. "I just couldn't devote the time to coaching that was necessary," says Bowman to the media. "Look out, this is a very difficult situation, and it could really backfire. Be ready," Ramsay tells his wife.
