It's Dwayne Roloson in goal, not Dominik Hasek, as the Sabres clinch a playoff berth with a 4-3 win on Long Island. Roloson makes 38 saves in the game, 17 in the third period with the Islanders, down 4-2, staging a furious rally. "That's something to be proud of," Sabres coach Lindy Ruff said of earning a playoff spot. "It's been a little bit of a roller-coaster ride, but to clinch a playoff spot, it gives you a ticket to the dance." A roller coaster ride, indeed: the Sabres were in first place in the conference at Christmastime but ended up in seventh -- not that it mattered!

April 6, 2000

Dominik Hasek makes 32 saves in a 5-0 shutout of the New Jersey Devils in the Swamp as the Sabres win for the third time in a row and seventh time in eight games. It's Hasek's second shutout of April. The Sabres are still on the razor's edge as they seek the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference in their Stanley Cup final hangover season.
