Pirates let a crucial game slip away

March 21, 2009

Portland, ME ? If the Portland Pirates want to make the playoffs this season, they will need to find a way to win the winnable games or face the reality of playing golf by the middle of April.

 

After building a 4-1 lead early in the second period, the Pirates allowed four unanswered goals, including two goals in the final 1:27 of the game as the Hershey Bears came back for a 5-4 win over the Pirates in front of 6,605 at the Cumberland County Civic Center.

It's time for Ruff to go. He has taken this team as far as he ever will. He is so stuck on his "system" that it wouldn't matter if he had all the best players in the world - he would still not allow them to utilize their talent. Ruff is a better than average coach and does do some things better than any of the other coaches but if this team is to ever win a cup then he is not the answer. This is a little heart breaking because it would have been nice to have an ex-player win us a cup but it's a stark reality that it won't happen with him.
