  1. Let me start with that I am not a UPL fan, but he played excellent last night. He controlled rebounds well, which was one of his downfalls last season. I thought he played poised. The first goal was on him. The second goal was a bang, bang play on an excellent pass where once again the Sabres didn't recognize a player cutting to the net on the weakside. The last five minutes of the game was a melee! The Senators knew they were out of it and started to get cheap to rattle the Sabres. While I was thrilled how physical they played, stuck up for one another and didn't back down, they aren't used to doing it and they let their emotions get the better of them. They couldn't focus on finishing them out the way they had played the rest of the game. UPL was the victim of this. Team defense totally collapsed, leading to  bang-bang plays. You have to give credit where credit is due, and UPL deserves credit for a well played game and the victory. Play him again and see if he can do it against the Devils!

  2. I hear most people complaining about the players and I understand why, losing sucks and we have a long tradition of losing here in Buffalo. October has SUCKED, the Bills and Sabres are not living up to expectations AGAIN! Winter is coming and doldrums of winter grey are just around the corner! Truth be told, IDK what is going on with the Bills besides injuries. With respect to the Sabres, come on people! If you can't see that this organization is headed in the right direction you have had your head buried in the abyss of losing to long, pull it out and take a breath! Our schedule has been tougher than most, hell look and the cupcake schedule they gave Boston to start the season! The team is playing way better team defense, they are playing physical, they are hustling and playing fast, multiple lines are playing well, they are taking the easy shot and not playing cute, their PK is top 5 (huge change from last year), our FA additions (Greeny, JE, Clifton) and draft pick (Benson) are playing better than expected, and we ARE still the youngest team in the league with a plethora of talent percolating in Rochester. The issue, there's a lid on the net. It happens, it will come off soon! The other issue is that the current players, who are not responsible for the 2 decades of losing prior, are feeling the effects of that losing from the fans. We wonder why "home" wins are hard to come by? They have no home! Who's to blame, look in the mirror! Every time we play a rival or a bigger market team, those fans fill the arena, last night was a perfect example and hell, the Habs fans didn't even come out like they normally do. Still, it was everything we could do to "boo" out the "Let's go Habs" chant! Fans can't do much else to help their teams win, but they sure as hell can show support! Season tickets holders need to stop selling their tickets and single game fans need to start showing up more! THESE PLAYERS DESERVE THAT FROM US, they don't deserve the whining and to not have a "HOME" barn to play in! Leave the past in the past and start supporting the future. Change is hard and not always pretty, but change is happening people. SUPPORT IT, SABRES WILL BE FINE!!! Rant over..........

.....and the goalie is ??????  Levi? or is DG going to give someone else some PT?  Obviously, Levi was excellent against TB, but isn't time to see what, if anything, we have in Comrie or UPL?

If Levi is going to be "The Man" he has to get used to stretches of consecutive starts as he is being given. That to me is the "see what you have" going on right now. I think you see Comrie or UPL in Ottawa. I do though like the idea of resting Levi against Montreal and having him play against a tougher Senator team!

If that's the case (which I hope it is), I wonder how they would adjust the rest of the lines with Jost coming in?  Makes it a kind of interesting puzzle with Jost only having played center (as far as I know).  I'm assuming they don't want to mess with Greenway/Mitts/Benson or Skinner/Thompson/Tuch (yet). I'm sure there's more, but here's a few possibilities off the top of my head:

    1.   Move Krebs up to the Cozens line & move Jost to fourth line center?

    2.  Move Jost in directly for VO to the Cozens line (either Cozens/Jost kicks out to wing)

    3.  I could even see them moving old man Okposo up there to the Cozens line and keeping Krebs/Jost both on the fourth line with one of them kicking out to wing.

    What about this:

    Skinner-Mitts-Tage

    JJ-Cous-Tuch

    Grenny-Jost-Bens

    Girgs-Kreb-Ok

  5. I was in attendance last night, Benson stood out. Granted neither roster was filled with NHL players as it will be in the regular season, but he looked as comfortable out there as any on his line (our top line). He meshed well with TT and Skinner. His assist to Skinner was timely and spot on, although being slight of frame, he fought hard in the boards and wasn't physically taken off the puck. He has superior hands and displayed it throughout the game. He was an absolute pest and often extended plays with his puck handling ability. With Quinn out, I can see him making the team. Although I am a huge Kulich fan, Benson looked like the superior player hands down last night. If you didn't know he was a rookie or 18, you certainly wouldn't have known it by his play!

  6. Unreal, has to have a problem with Dorsey. He one of the highest paid WRs in the league who just had his deal restructured this spring which included a 20 plus million dollar bonus on top of his 20 plus million dollar annual salary! Disgusted.

You realize Dahlin, Mule and Joki are all from the prior administration.

This team competed for a playoff spot solely on the spectacular offense.  The defense and goaltending were worse for than last year and are over half a goal worse than 3 years ago.  Despite the 4th or 5th best offense in the NHL, the team still has a negative differential and allowed nearly 300 goals against.

The goal of every NHL team is to compete for championships.  This team as currently constructed with only 3 good defenseman and a lack of goaltending is not in a position to compete for a championship.  If Levi is the next Ryan Miller that fixes part of the issue, but rolling forward with guys like UPL, Comrie, Bryson, Lyubushkin, Stillman, and Girgensons doesn’t fix the defense.

I do. Why does it matter who brought them in? Bryson is horrible, granted. Bush and Still are fine as the bottom D pair. Do I wish we would of made the playoffs, as a STH, absolutely! It didn't happen and honestly I didn't expect it to. With that said, if you can't see the drastic improvement this organization has made this year you're trying not to.

That wasn't because of the defense and goaltending and it's still not in a playoff spot.  Clearly, this front office can evaluate forwards, but so far their record in evaluating and hiring D and G is suspect.

They traded away Montour and allowed Ullmark to walk. Instead, they acquired Hagg, Butcher, Pysyk, Dell, Comrie, Subban, Tokarski, Clague, Stillman and Lyubushkin.

The few pluses on the ledger were the dumping of Risto and the signing of Anderson off the scrap heap.

The Sabres' GAA in the last 4 years has increased from 3.12 to 3.5 to 3.5 to 3.62.  This is not a positive trend.  Hopefully, Levi cures some of these issues, but he can't do it alone.

So Dahlin, Power, Mule and Levi don't count. Do we need another top 4 D, yep. Do we need a 1A goalie, maybe. Come on though, give credit where credit is do. 91 pts. out of the youngest team in the league is pretty damn good. Lets not look for things to complain about it.

    Team plays different behind Levi.

I say ride it out you have nothing to lose.

I was at the game last night and it was the most electric the fans have been all year! Standing up for every save, drowning out any and all attempts at a Rangers chant, and then ERUPTING on the Skinner game winning goal! They way Skinner turned around immediately to point at Levi gave me chills! They played inspired/confident hockey with Levi in net, for me, it was the best game of the season! Levi has the “it” factor. The goal over the shoulder was fluky and the second goal was on the team. He stopped and had it, his teammates allowed the Rangers to gather around the net and poke at it instead of clearly them out. Levi should play today and if he wins they should ride him! KA and DG talk about giving the kids experience and time to grow, what a chance to do it now with Levi! It’s our best chance at the playoffs as well. Win, win!!!

I go to games, and I watch games, and I follow the off season.  I am still going to complain about it.

Florida teams are set up in a huge melting pot of people from other states and countries.  The have a large number of visiting fans for all sports.

I understand the Canadian fans coming in, that is part of the market for Buffalo, always has been, and they are free to cheer for Canadian based teams if they wish too.

Pittsburgh, Boston, NYI, NYR, NJD is another story.   We need to get the season ticket base back up to help keep them out.

I will be at the game tonight, can't wait to see Levi do his thing! I agree, STH need to defend their home ice and be in attendance. It is very disheartening when we barely have enough fans in the arena to "boo" out the visiting teams chants!

In Monday's Habs game, the Sabres held the puck in the Habs zone for well over a minute on at least 3 occassions in the 2nd period.  And yet they were outshot 18-9 for the period.  THAT is a problem.

To me, they get cute at times. Especially when they are pressing. They can hold the puck in the zone very well because of their passing talent (vision), but don't shoot because they're constantly looking for the perfect shot! They NEED to put the puck on net as much as possible and work to rebound. Rousek was in front of the net consistently against the Habs and was rewarded for it!
