Krebs has THAT timing issue that you mentioned, that they're in win NOW mode so they can't put his development ahead of the team's success.

But he also has the timing of there being at least 6 legit prospects that could all be ready to get real looks within the next 2 seasons and there aren't many open slots above his on the team.  When Mittelstadt and then Thompson were initially getting pencilled in as the 1 C, there weren't 9 potentially top 9 guys on the roster nor were there 2 lines worth of guys chomping at the bit with legit chances to get looks.

There wasn't as much competitition for jobs when Casey and Tage were being given opportunities to show whether they were up to the task.  It's a good problem for the team to have, but Adams will have to be adept as he decides who to keep and how to get max values for the ones he doesn't have a dressing room stall for.

Looking as Krebs as the odd guy out. To me, no future for Girg, Okposo and Oloffson. Imperative we move on from them first before we throw away Krebs and Jost.

They may all be gone by next year.

    Interesting but good dilemma.

On one hand what if they were not patient with Tage and Casey?   Maybe 23 to 24 is the age you see a young forward really break out?

Jost is already 25 and had stints with Colorado and Minnesota.   He is what he is - he is most likely always gonna be 4th line/ spare forward guy with some skill and some defensive checking ability.   He is a guy that is good in the room too, but I don't see him lasting too much longer.  I do like the guy though, he will work hard for you.

Krebs is still 22 (until Jan) and might have more upside than Jost.  This is the year he has to show more because Benson is making this team, if not this season then next.   Savoie might be on that same level as Benson - we shall see how he looks soon.   Kulich and Rosen are going to get a look too.  That is 4 Adams picked first rounders that will get a fair look no doubt.   I actually think that the AHL time that Kulich and Rosen are getting is going to benefit them a lot.

Krebs, even as a 4C, is going to have to generate some offense to fight these guys off.  Krebs could be the later bloomer that gets away, but we have so many forwards it is inevitable that some of them are going to be NHL players somewhere else.

I just don't want to see a mentality with Adams and DG were we are trying guys out all season and still in a developmental mode.  Its time to win, play whoever best helps us do that.

Who's holding up Development as Players, Adams

Seriously, Why is Girg and Okposo on this Roster. Has nothing to do with who those guys are. Has to do with the Riches of drafting High for 7+ years.

Okposo, Girg and Oloffson are holding up being a Playoff team!

I was thinking the same thing as the earlier post saying they were not ready to throw in the towel yet on Krebs, and compared him to Casey Mittelstadt.  Krebs is only 22, and I think Casey was in a similar spot at age 22 (2 years ago).  First round draft pick who has played in the AHL and NHL, has shown out in spurts, but has not played at a consistent high level.  Casey has developed into a very good NHL player and Krebs could follow a similar development plan.  He has the skillset and he has the effort (I like his grit - a smaller guy, but not afraid to mix it up and drop the gloves), but he just hasn't put it all together on a regular basis.

That said, I do agree with what's been said earlier in the thread - the Sabres have several strong forward prospects in the system, so if another one is developing at a faster pace than Krebs and is ready, it wouldn't be the worst thing to move on from Krebs in favor of the other prospect.  When he came to Buffalo, things were still pretty bleak, but Krebs (and Tuch) embraced the move and have been part of the turnaround.  He seems like a good kid, so I would like to see him become a consistently good NHL player in Buffalo or elsewhere.

Very FAIR assessment. But if krebs is in Buffalo, got to give him a chance with linemates that can score. Rousek to me needs to be here since he plays two way Hockey. Can't keep Krebs, Girg and Okposo on this team with Rochester way ahead on Development. Also have Benson and Savoy way past Minor league Development. Jost is a very usable player with 1st round talent like Middlestat and Krebs.

Hate to say it, but I think Krebs is a bust. He's not even getting good results on the 4th line in the eye test, analytics and counting stats.

He's largely been ineffective outside a few bursts, especially more during his first year here. Every chance he's had with talent has been a huge disappointment in my eyes. I think he's a tweener and/or a decent 13th forward moving forward. He may get marginally better but overall has been quite honestly, a terrible piece in that trade 😞

That's not Krebs. He is a passing Center, who is he passing too that has speed and a Great Shot?

You’re not gonna get any argument with me. Krebs has broken out of his turnover machine habits, but he has appeared to a level off as a JAG.

He may be a better player someday, but that may show on his sixth NHL team.

Lat year everyone would be screaming at you like they did me. My problem was never Krebs as Center on 4th line. My problem is We have too much Talent drafted and at Amerks to keep people like Oloffson, Krebs, Okposo and Girgenson. Actually, be Ok if 4th line was Rousek Krebs Jost. We have new leaders that produce. Time to move on. Next man gone would be Krebs if need, has trade potential as a Center

I’d rather have his physical side over Stillman. As taro’s suggesting, I think/hope something else is in play.

That is what Clifton is for. Stillman is 7th defensiveman.

    Dahlin Samulesson

    Power  Clifton

    Joki  Johnson/Stillman

Some of Amerks will be coming up to, like Davies, Johnson, etc...

    Sabres are loaded now.

Liked Ilya Lyubushkin but he would not have played often. Best for him to move on at 28.

  7. Dahlin has been in the League already 5 years. Last two Seasons have squelched the move Dahlin to Winger calls or he is a bust. Played 355 games already and is 23. Has good size, fighter meaning he doesn't back down. When Healthy he is a Norris Candidate every year. Probably in the Top two as Offensive Defensiveman.

Power in his first full year has played WAY better than Dahin in his 1st full year. Man is HUGE, has some grit but still is 3 years younger than Dahlin. Power already is a +13 point differential, Dahlin for the 1st time hit + differential at 12.

Need another year to truly analysis Power vs Dahlin. That said Power is already ahead in projection from 1st year and beyond. Plus player who found scoring later in year. He was on the 2nd pairing and did this. He is 6-6, will get bigger and better defensively and has length to do what Tage does offensively. Power will not be real flashy like Dahlin and Dahlin will never be as good defensively as Power.

That said Power is the better Defensiveman, he will have 4 more better years than Dahlin if Healthy just based on age, Dahlin had a slow start. Power will be a 50-70 point guy by 23 easily. Dahlin may go to 100+.

Glad we have BOTH and hopefully the next 10+ years

My choice is Power, he came out of the gate flying and will project better in his first 5 years, we don't know this mans ceiling yet either, still too young to evaluate high end.

It’s hard to score goals when you’re not in the lineup because the coach considers you a liability.

He knows what he has in Olofsson, think he really wanted to see his young guys. Sabres will need his shot early with Quinn out. Lets hope he Improves his 5 on 5 play. He will NEVER be a two way player. Need to pair him with a Two way forward.

    Samuelsson - Dahlin

    Power - Clifton

    Stillman - Johnson

    (Lyubushkin, Jokiharju, Bryson)

    Levi

    (UPL, Comrie)

That’s what we are looking at right now.

Could just see the removal of 1 or 2 of the bolded D men, and 1 of the bolded goalies, and a run back with a modestly improved D unit

We will be better just by having Levi. I fail to see a BIG jump with Talent that helps our Offense. Parading last years team basically hoping it grows. Our Fourth line will not grow, hope it holds its own. So if we are lucky we get 7-8th seed. With some decent upgrades maybe we could have gotten to 4-6. Splash, 2-3.

    Levi better stay Healthy!

We don't have as much free cap as some think. Especially after Dahlin and Power deals.

SHHH, I got trolled for saying that

The problem is the league has no cap space. That is why there has been a lack of trades and why teams are giving players away for free.  Also means some of these UFAs are in for a rude awakening when teams can’t pay the $ they hope to get.

Kind of like Football and the Bills. Got a lot of 1 year deals for good players at under 2.5 million.

All the forwards fill a specific need the Sabres lack. Grit and willingness to go to the corners.  I'd rather have any of the these free agents at $2-3 million a year than Olofsson at $4.75 million a year.

Olofsson good on power play, has a GREAT shot. finishes games with empty nets, has 28 goals in part time work.

Have to start there. That said I want him traded

What do these other Forwards have that replaces what we lose?

No, just like Savoie this year, it would have to be the Sabres or back to his junior team

Mostly right but he has 4 seasons, one with 28 games COVID year. They could rule that is a full season. If they do, he could go to the Amerks.

Why would you assume it's a podcast? It's a TV show. The only troll I've noticed around here lately is you.

So you see a huge difference between a TV show and a Podcast. Do you know some TV shows become Podcasts like One Bills Drive? Apparently many on here think they own The Aud Club. None of you on here are some GREAT expert either. Funny on here how many ridiculed saying Jost would be back, he's back. Many of the things I say off someone else, there are time stamps, get quoted later after what I just commented. Course some of you are so smart you have to Troll other people to shut them up apparently. My guess you trolls must be all of about 8-14 years old. Just a guess though.

    GROW UP!!

Just watching the Donnie and Dhali sports show out here in Vancouver (Don Taylor, formerly of Sportsnet). They are saying the Canucks blew it by not taking Benson when they had the chance. They're kinda pissed, lol. The consensus seems to be we got a steal on our hands.

Don't admit you watch Podcast's. There are Trolls here that think they know everything and they will HISS at you.

You listen to “other people on Podcasts”, that’s good to know.

No, I work late and come to this site. I just keep finding Trolls who talk Gibberish that I haven't been able to translate yet. Working on it though.

Several reasons, but the biggest being you burn a year of each of their ELCs the moment they step on the ice in the 10th game.

No, try understanding what I said. 9+9 serially = 18 games

    Didn't say 18 each for 32.

This is an important observation with Kulich. Not only was he 18 most of the year but it was his first time away from home and he started out very slowly as he adjusted to the game in the AHL.

    He scored 2 goals his first 16 games;

    7 in his first 32.

But the latter half his talent really began to shine as he felt more at home and he scored 18 goals in the final 30 games.

    A 0.6 goals / game clip.

I think Baker’s prediction from back just after the season ended is right. Kulich and Savoie will be invited to camp and there is a good chance both will get 10 game stint’s and then go to the WJs and then back to their minor league spots unless they are needed at the end of the year and have really shown they belong. Quinn being out till likely end of December opens up some opportunity.

A difference I see in Kulich from all these young guys being discussed is his shot; he is a true sniper. If he gets with the right line, he can be a deadly scorer. Killer on PP. His passing is slower in developing, though. He’s not the playmaker Quinn is.

That is Olofsson? He has 28 goals in NHL

  18. 6 hours ago, Taro T said:

Why not keep both of them in Buffalo for their 9 game tryouts which gets you through nearly 1/4 of the season before they have to go back and about then Quinn should be ready and if he isn't then Kulich gets his look.

Washington won't be happy about it, but tough noogies.

Why not benefit from 18 games of both players playing same position same line and see who fairs better? They are a lot alike so you would get a fair Assessment for 2024.

Benson won't be able to immediately play his game in the NHL. He will need time to grow and transition gradually otherwise he'll get crushed. Remember, the NHL is where the world's best hockey players play - even a 4th liner is good compared to the typical competition the elite guys see in the lower leagues.

How did a 8th seed blow through to the Stanley cup then? Not just one game like NFL. Sometime people play over the Evaluation and Logic. You can't measure heart and Grit

When I was 14 I hit 5'10". I was expecting to be a Giant have 6'5" Uncle. Well by 21 I was still 5'10". Doesn't always happen. My brother was 5'8" at 18 into college. Three years later he was 6' 1". Go figure?
