Interesting take.  Please explain how he was overrated.

Wouldn't matter your mind is set

    But

    To rebuttal your points, quickly

    1. Sheer volume absolutely contributed to his win total.

    2. Sheer volume absolutely contributed to his win total.

When you play 70 games a year you are going to be up there in wins regardless of how good you actually are

Fair enough. He asked me to respond, though

Finally buffalo is developing their own and are slowly becoming stars lets not toss away players and screw things up

So, trading some of our prospects, some of who will never make the NHL, screws up the plan?

No, never said Cozens is better than Horvat.  I said we have Tage and Cozens and other talent/prospects at C.

If the price for Horvat is really 3 #1’s equivalents then I move on and prefer to upgrade RHD and also find a few strong two way forwards instead.

So you're banking on the hit or miss strategy of "prospects" instead of wanting a proven commodity

So your only reason to move Cozens to wing and acquire Horvat, who's 28 and will cost 8 million or more to retain, is Horvat is better at faceoffs?

Olofsson wasn't moved up because the only thing he brings is his shot.

Are there any concrete reasons Cozens needs to stay at center? You wouldn't pay Horvat say 8 million for 4 years? 28 is too old for the NHL now?

    Just 3?

There's only about 6 or 7 I definitely want to keep.

But to stay on topic, Bryson, VO and Mitts since Vinnie is already gone and Skinner cannot be unloaded, we all know that.

I still believe, as I have all year, that Kyle and Zemgus should be deadline dealt if possible (all the sentimental folks can go ahead and red X me all they want). At least half this team is useless though.

Heavily agree on that last sentence and I am also not sure why most of this board is against acquiring Bo Horvat

Nah, the Sabres should not throw away assets on another center.  They have TNT and Cozens, plus Kebs and Jost,  and they drafted 3 center prospects.

Use less prospect capital to acquire a top 4 defenseman or a goalie, and get another power forward (winger).  They need a few two way forwards - we stink in our end of the rink and we are mediocre at PK.   Lets fix the problems.

Horvat plays the one position we have covered.

So you're saying, right now, Cozens is better than Horvat? I don't agree.

Cozens could be moved to winger if you're really worried about that. Granato moved Thompson to center and that worked out better than anyone hoped.

You could have a second line of Cozens, Horvat and Oloffson. Or change Oloffson out. I wouldn't mind seeing Oloffson getting more minutes, in the form of playing on the second line. When the Peterka, Quinn, Cozens line was struggling I'm not sure why Oloffson did not get moved up. Simple and easy change there

Cozens is not great at face offs, Horvat is. Cozens could become our defacto tough guy winger.

Unless I'm missing something that paints a clear picture that Cozens needs to stay a center

So Horvat to chowdaville or just internet rumor?

That would be a real cup of chowder right there!

    I'm hoping it's a rumor because I hate them.

Sabres should get in on Horvat

Lot of words in that opening post.

At first blush I don’t regret any. Never thought we were going to get through the year without a slump or a few stinkers.

Still looks very much like a team on its way up to me.

I do not disagree with your overall premise or your passion for the team.

This is a team, to me, that even if they made the playoffs by some incredible turn of events, would get tossed in the first round anyway.

They have been so bad for so long that I guess even a moderate improvement is enough to have people think what your original post states. Which is fine, I suppose.

I would like to see them make the playoffs before I get fired up again. They have a long way to go, but yes, there are a few bright spots.
