  1. They’re back in?  I certainly hope so.

One team many believed were suitors, primarily through media reports, may actually be in on the 24 year-old Eichel. Eric Stephens who covers the Ducks for the Athletic said this in a recent mailbag post:

The Ducks, while not publicly talking about their interest in him, haven’t put the kibosh on the persistent rumors that they’re among the teams closely monitoring the situation between Eichel and Buffalo. While Adams is under pressure to get a massive trade return for his star, he does have some leverage in that Eichel is signed long-term and his full no-move clause doesn’t kick in until next summer.

So while the Ducks could be interested, it remains to be seen if they would part with future star Trevor Zegras. It’s also possible that Buffalo would consider Anaheim’s 3rd overall pick in this past draft; center Mason McTavish. However; Buffalo would also want Jamie Drysdale and more to complete a deal.”

  2. One of the things that I think some people might be forgetting, (and I apologize if this has been brought up already) is that small market teams out there have almost zero chance of landing an elite player like Eichel, unless you get lucky to draft one.  More than likely, those type of players won’t be signing with you in free agency.  They are going to want big market exposure and the fame and fortune that comes with it.
So this might be the only chance a team like Minnesota has to getting an elite player like Eichel.

Jesper Wallstedt was drafted 20th and Sebastian Cossa was drafted 15th. The Sabres could have drafted either instead of Rosen (14th) and no one would have blinked an eye.

I really wanted the Sabres to draft one of those two with the 14th pick.  I highly doubt Rosen is going to be as impactful as a potential franchise goalie.  Sure, if he turns out to be a 30-40 goal scorer per year, then we made the right call.  But he’s gonna have to be special to make it worth the pick for me.  One of those goalies (if not both) are going to be a huge impact for their team.

Best case scenario is that a bidding war has finally broken out and all the cards are on the table:

Vegas is dangling Krebs AND Tuch

The Wild are saying we can have Boldy AND Rossi

Anaheim has finally moved Zegras on to the table and Comtois is staying there as well

Drury has upped the 4th to a 3rd and is grudgingly throwing in Keith Kincaid.

Of all those I think I’d take Zegras and Comtois.  But throw in a protected 1st (cause they’re all gonna be “protected” with this draft coming up).

I just want the best center propsect we could get (Krebs more than qualifies), and an end to the drama, so we can see what the future looks like.

I would rather get only two pieces back if the one piece is Byfield, Zegras or Dach than 3-4 if it’s with lesser prospects.  We need one of the centers to hit.  I’d rather take a chance with one possible stud than hoping one of two lesser assets hit.

  6. I know a lot of you guys here are hoping to pull Rossi or Boldy.  But what are the odds that the Sabres could somehow get Joel Eriksson Ek as part of the return for Jack.
I think he would be perfect for this team.  He’d be a great number 2 for us.  Plays the game how so many of us Sabres fans have been dying to have.  And maybe his offensive numbers could go up once he’s surrounded by some of the young offensive talent we have.
