And the centerpiece of the trade hasn’t suited up yet for the Sabres.

I loved this trade from the get go. If Doan can grow and loves to be here, he is going to cement us winning this trade if the centerpiece plays as advertised

I hate to say that i have already given up on this tire fire.... but i am so numb. I watch and do not even care anymore. Only good thing is that the Avs (My next fav team) is about to go to 3-0-1. Fck the Sabres

You have to admit, it is kinda sad when your favorite team sucks the life out of you 2 games into a season.....I do not want a tank!!! We would just screw up some young good kids career until he asks for a trade.

The problem with all that size is that the NHL is actually getting smaller, especially on defense. Florida was the third lightest team in the playoffs this year and only Tampa has won a cup recently with a heavy defense.

But they play bigger then they are and they are very physical. They do not get pushed around and are not afraid to give their own bodies up. You are right, size is kinda relative, but physicality is not. We have a team with way too many purse swingers!!

  4. Ok, going to try and use a bit of optimism. Dahls and Byram were one of the top 10 defensive pairings when they were together last year 5 on 5. They were top 5 in most advanced statistics! If Timmons and Kesselring improve over their replacements, our defense could be a plus for this team. We know the Sabres can score. Even with JJ gone, those goals could be made up with the current team as is. I think we are sneakily a better team based on the moves that were made and KEEPING Byram. The question is can they keep up with the rest and make the playoffs with what they have. I truly believe they can if the defense plays to its potential. Dahlin and Byram make the goalie play a lot better when they are on the ice. If the other 2 pairings can do that i think our netminding is better this year!

Reality is we haven’t seen this team with Norris on it. Nor with a defense that can actually hold the fort. The transactions on paper might not be splashy, but we aren’t far from hitting critical mass to overcome those issues

I have to say, i do not disagree with you here. We were a good offence last year. Only JJP out and we will have a full year of Norris. If our defense and goaltending was not a sieve last year, they would have been someone better. IF this team actually forechecks and plays a more physical defense and not allow other teams to just walk in our zone with just a stick check, there is a possibility it may not be that bad. The players we brought in is really what this team needed outside of more scoring. Trying to stay somewhat positive and not be miserable.

Johnson would be fine as a 6 or 7th dman this season.

People get into this headspace that 3rd pairing Dmen and 4th line players have to be spectacular.

I think he has a higher upside then that but has never had that chance to really prove himself in the big club!

Kevyn Adams on Byram: “A lot of conversations with his agent right now and nothing’s changed in the sense that we believe Bo is an excellent hockey player who can help our team win. I maintain the same position that if there’s a deal out there that makes sense for us that we think is going to improve our roster, we’re open to it. If there’s not, we’re not in a situation where we’re looking to move him out or looking to move him for futures and stuff like that. For me, we want to help our team win hockey games, and he does that.”

Typical KA say. We are not moving him. His return right now would get him lynched if he pulled the trigger. Just keep him, sign him to a 1 or 2 year deal and move on. It is what it is. Another season of no playoffs.

  8. I am resigned that Byram is staying and our offense is what it is with what we have. Only decent news is that we are defensively slightly better and a bit bigger. I do not believe hard to play against until i see a Sabres team actually do it!! Would love to see a couple of opposing forwards get laid flat as they try and enter our zone without our player getting injured in the process!! (Yes Muel, that is YOU!!)

I don’t know.  He didn’t impress me at all when Ive seen him play.  This guys screams not good enough to stick to me.  Another Bryson, really.

I hear you.... his sample size is too small i think for a honest opinion. I have liked him since he was in college. Not huge but really smart with angles and very rarely out of position. Would love to see him get a fair shake to see if he was worth the hassle as he almost did not come to Buffalo after college.

Am I the only one who doesn’t see Ryan Johnson as an NHL player?

Yes..... He really is a smart defensively sound kid! He looked good when called up. He never should have been sent back with what we had up here. Not flashy, but steady. That kind of defenseman where you do not hear his name much.

As I said in prior posts, I liked Docker. I would have preferred to have kept him. I’m baffled as to why he was dispatched. I strongly suspect that this was a Ruff influenced decision. However, this wasn’t a significant loss in the grand scheme of things.

I am with you on JBD. BUT, i am glad they look like they are finally going to start using Johnson!!!
