Reality is we haven’t seen this team with Norris on it. Nor with a defense that can actually hold the fort. The transactions on paper might not be splashy, but we aren’t far from hitting critical mass to overcome those issues

I have to say, i do not disagree with you here. We were a good offence last year. Only JJP out and we will have a full year of Norris. If our defense and goaltending was not a sieve last year, they would have been someone better. IF this team actually forechecks and plays a more physical defense and not allow other teams to just walk in our zone with just a stick check, there is a possibility it may not be that bad. The players we brought in is really what this team needed outside of more scoring. Trying to stay somewhat positive and not be miserable.

Johnson would be fine as a 6 or 7th dman this season.

People get into this headspace that 3rd pairing Dmen and 4th line players have to be spectacular.

I think he has a higher upside then that but has never had that chance to really prove himself in the big club!

Kevyn Adams on Byram: “A lot of conversations with his agent right now and nothing’s changed in the sense that we believe Bo is an excellent hockey player who can help our team win. I maintain the same position that if there’s a deal out there that makes sense for us that we think is going to improve our roster, we’re open to it. If there’s not, we’re not in a situation where we’re looking to move him out or looking to move him for futures and stuff like that. For me, we want to help our team win hockey games, and he does that.”

Typical KA say. We are not moving him. His return right now would get him lynched if he pulled the trigger. Just keep him, sign him to a 1 or 2 year deal and move on. It is what it is. Another season of no playoffs.

  4. I am resigned that Byram is staying and our offense is what it is with what we have. Only decent news is that we are defensively slightly better and a bit bigger. I do not believe hard to play against until i see a Sabres team actually do it!! Would love to see a couple of opposing forwards get laid flat as they try and enter our zone without our player getting injured in the process!! (Yes Muel, that is YOU!!)

I don’t know.  He didn’t impress me at all when Ive seen him play.  This guys screams not good enough to stick to me.  Another Bryson, really.

I hear you.... his sample size is too small i think for a honest opinion. I have liked him since he was in college. Not huge but really smart with angles and very rarely out of position. Would love to see him get a fair shake to see if he was worth the hassle as he almost did not come to Buffalo after college.

As I said in prior posts, I liked Docker. I would have preferred to have kept him. I’m baffled as to why he was dispatched. I strongly suspect that this was a Ruff influenced decision. However, this wasn’t a significant loss in the grand scheme of things.

I am with you on JBD. BUT, i am glad they look like they are finally going to start using Johnson!!!

  7. Lets face it, KA is bust as he is at prospect camp. We know this story. He is not acting like a GM on the hot seat. Maybe he already knows TPeg is going to give him an extension. He is going to wait for the FA dust to settle. Then overpay for a 5th line player that won't make the Amerks.

Yeah I’ve been thinking about this.  Is JBD too small for Kevyn's narrow minded view on hockey players.  He’s shifted from all offense to all giants.  I mean whatever.  My biggest problem is that most of the D aren’t overly physical.  Did he forget that part of the equation?

I hope not! He played well for us last season! He is definitely a solid and serviceable 4-6 dman we just wasted assets to get last year!!

Who do you think you can get for Byram in trade? I'm just curious because everyone talks about getting that magical top 6 player for him. Maybe, just maybe, no one at that level has been offered yet.

Or wants to come here...LOL DO not get me wrong. I am not saying give him away for nothing and to be honest i think KA covets our cupboard too much. There was people out there to get but KA is very stingy at the wrong times.

You write like Byram being here is a bad thing. I think it’s fine as he plays well with Dahlin. I’m more than okay with keeping Byram and signing Lyon. All that would be left to do is sign a LW like Granlund or suter

You are assuming. It is not a bad thing. But, think of it this way. Could a defensive tandem of Dahlin and Byram handle a cup final against Florida? Let me help you here..... NOT A CHANCE!! A team's goal is not to just make a playoffs, it is to win the cup. I have zero problem with him staying but you are also losing your biggest chip to bring in a top 6 forward (Not that i think KA is going to do that anyways). If he stays i am good with that. Our defense is definitely better with him i believe. The question is....... is making the goaltending and defense better gets this team to the playoffs? I have no faith in KA making the offensive and PP side better.
