No, no. I totally agree with you that the Sabres and Skinner were negotiating during the course of the season. That I remember.
What I don’t think exists is any evidence that the Sabres could have signed him earlier for cheaper, and specifically for $7M. I don’t know where you got that from.
I believe they paid UFA price beacuse they waited to long
I can almost promise you guys probably had 7m or 8 during the season when "negotiating " the contract in January

We all like reinhart but with all the rumors about (jack eichel ) why sign a long-term deal With that lingering in the back of your mind.
Money is great but some people want to experience playoffs

At the of that story, was George right? Lol
Sorry, I simply don’t remember it being reported around the trade deadline that Skinner wanted $7M.
Im saying you could have gotten him cheaper then 9m but they paid free agency price
Here is the The article that they started negotiating
They should have had this deal done but they waited

I forget who but someone mentioned trading Reinhart to Seattle and that idea actually has some merit in it. I am not opposed to trading Reinhart.
For the record, Sam Reinhart is anything but a "softee". He literally is the best net front goal scorer this team has.

I feel like you may be the only person who remembers this. I don’t think this happened.
I mean this can't be ground breaking news they were negotiating in January It was all over the NHL network lol
I feel like like this

Coming from a packers fan you all need to chill on edmunds.
Hes the same age as the dude you picked in the 2nd round .

This is just a repetition of your prior assertion. What is that assertion based on? Just your gut feel? Any source? Anything?
came out on news sources i believe 2 weeks before trade deadline and some time in January

What is this based on?
They could have singed him around December or January but they waited like they always do till his value went sky high

Not too long ago, a majority of the board wanted Mitts out for a bag of mediocre chips.
A handful of games later, people want to overpay him?
Or we could just sign him for 2 years and he Explodes and we have to pay him a shitload.
This is why buffalo always gets ***** contracts Always waiting and boom
Let's not forget everyone We could have signed Skinner for 7 million dollar But we waited

Sucks is maybe the wrong word but it's not a rich draft at the top and it's definitely a roll the dice year more than most.
I still think Owen Power is the best top pick and not picking a D man because he's a D man etc. would be a mistake.
So if you don't want to trade down,
1. Owen Power
2. Zachary L'Heureux (trade up to late first to get him if necessary)
3. Red Savage cause, well, that's just the coolest hockey name ever.
after that no idea. Grab a goalie and then some size grit and raw skill from who knows where (hopefully the Sabres management does)
That's my wish fulfillment draft.
1st overall - dylan guenther
Trade Ristolainen for a late first
Draft aatu Raty
Trade sam for a package with a 1st included
Draft Chibrikov
2nd round logan stankoven
Boston 2nd rounder
lsak rosen

Why? He's shown a little offensive prowess late this season but he's not been all that. Don't see how he deserves any more money than say Zemgus.
When Ralph got canned all the young guns stepped up 16pts in 18 games now He's not some gamer that eats fast food anymore get it done please

Yeah i dont see us winning 3 out of 4 games

I'm well aware it's not like the NFL.
I just think the top prospects this year are not all that special and I don't want to Nylander this draft.
If it wasn't for the expansion draft I'd be saying trade the pick away for a player or maybe even a multi deal. This lottery simply doesn't hold the kind of promise we had with Eichel, Dahlin, or even Reinhart. I generally am against trading firsts away but I'm sick of losing and this draft sucks.
In all honesty I am getting sick of "this draft sucks" When that's not true at all All these players have been messed up due to covid
With less Scouting and some leagues not playing and teams stoping Because someone has covid is So ridiculous in my mind

I am also very anti-trade down. I’d have a conversation with Seattle about going from one to three in exchange for them taking Okposo in the expansion draft but that’s not going to happen. Maybe if we landed a first next year to go back a few slots but that’s also not happening. Just take the guy you want the most and move on.
If sam doesn't want to stay i would trade him to seattle for the 1st pick

With covid leagues around the world have been Affected so players that could of had breakout years and moved up in the draft are still in the 3rd and 4th rounds .
For example if ehlers didn't get to play for Halifax ( Because of covid) he would have been his 3rd round grade that year
Think about buffalo's jack quinn went from a 4th -5th round grade to top ten

If jack gets moved keep Ristolainen for the shane wright race

Happy Retirement MillerTime!! Come back and train goaltenders in HarborCenter.
Is she working? That would decide it I'm betting. If not it's an expensive place to be they might as well move to the WNY area.

Trading down in the NHL draft is a fool’s errand barring a trade akin to #1 for #4 and another top 15 pick. You can’t trade out of the top 5 and get a top tier players unlike the NFL draft
I honestly think people don't understand the differences between the NFL draft and the nhl

Nick Foligno is a guy I really want here; he is literally everything we lack in a player.
Kick tires on Tuch and other similar players besides Virtanen since he’s a bust at this point.
As others have said, we lack any type of variety in our players. Practically our entire team are some variation of finesse players with varying levels of grit. The only real notable exceptions are Borgen and Samuelson. We need a few players who understand they are Bot 6 and not only accept it but look to play it to the pinnacle of the role. We need an Adam Mair(modern version of course) who knows what he is and doesn’t pretend to be a top 6 forward. But instead hones his craft to be the ultimate role player, he’ll fight, he’ll hit, he’ll block shots and win face offs, he isn’t going to try and deke through multiple opponents, he’ll be a foundational rock for the team when games are bad and help the team stay humble when they are destroying another team. The guy who certainly seems like he could do this is Girgs but he needs to pour a bit more into his Bot 6 persona.
Can we be done with old and outdated players .
Thanks

Ah, I misread what you said so point taken. My apologies.
I am still not handing out long-term deals for guys based on very small sample size. What’s your proposed deal for Casey?
If he takes it 3.5-4m for 6 years

Simmonds never signed a multi-year contract worth more than $4M and Couturier is nearing the end of a six-year deal that paid him $4.3M per so I don’t understand the comparisons there. I think Philly is very happy with how both situations have gone.
I’m not going to get into the business of signing contracts based on an 18 game sample size. That’s how you end up with bad contracts. I’d rather sign a guy to a long-term deal if he puts up something like 40-23-63 over a full season on the roster.
... Jeff Skinner joke aside there’s not enough of a sample size for me to want to give Mittelstadt a long-term deal unless it’s dirt cheap to do so and the player will not agree to that.
They both signed for cheap before they Exploded and thats what buffalo needs to do with casey
Did the flyers think both Simmonds and Couturier would go from 30 point players to all stars ? They took a chance and won
Reinhart, sign him or trade him?
