No one has claimed that she's risen to her current position on her own or that her husband hasn't given her things.  No one is peddling a false image of her.

You are free to say that she hasn't succeeded on her own and that her husband has given her things.

There are indeed posters here who engage in PC policing from time to time.  This is not one of those cases.

You are 100% in the wrong, both in the use of the slur and in trying to defend yourself by hiding behind claims that everyone else is being a PC puritan.

What crosses the line into baseless slur -- which is something you and everyone else need to avoid when posting here -- is the leap from "she hasn't achieved anything on her own" to "she's a grasping trophy wife." -- i.e. the leap from "she's not an accomplished person" to "she's a [slur for a type of bad person]."

    Do better or keep quiet.

I'll retract the grasping, it may be an unfair word to use, as long as I don't have to retract "milky eyed" - but her self description of Black Widow doesn't help in a positive public image. I feel that KP meets the definition of a trophy wife, which is that she is a much younger woman who is the second wife of a very wealthy man who handed her her career because of their marriage. She has no background in this field.  And yet she's constantly presented in the media as being a successful and powerful woman. Wife of Kong has actually weighed in on this, saying that she has seen and experienced this type of situation in business, when an undeserving woman gets a position of power or money because of her connection to an older powerful man and not because of her own merits or background. As a woman, Wife of Kong is very angered by this because it negates the efforts of truly qualified women who try to achieve things on their own. She's had this happen to her in business and she resents this deeply because it prevents women from achieving positions and success on their own merits without being attached to a powerful man. BTW still no one after all this time has been able to post what KP has done on her own successfully.

No one said otherwise.  The pushback you've gotten here was because of your baseless use of a slur.

So tell me, you're part of the Mod Team. Since no one has answered me yet, what has she done successfully on her own?  Everything has been given to her by her powerful husband who gives her things and yet she's portrayed as this powerful independent woman. I'm just saying this image that's being peddled of her is clearly false. The reason for the pushback on this board is not the baseless slur,  but that several of the posters who like to repeat themselves are PC Neo-Puritans.

I believe we are entering a new era of sports, where players are realizing they have more power over Their Careers than Their Predecessors. I think you are going to see more players forcing their franchises to move them out of bad situations. Pierre Luc Dubois was the first player to do so, but will not be the last. I don’t agree with the players doing this but this is the future I believe.

This is so true. I was just talking to a bud of mine about the horrible sport of basketball. Players decide who they want to play with, stack their teams and it's unwatchable. Not to mention the creepy political views of about 80 percent of the players.

I don't usually comment of these threads but I do have some thoughts that might come out terribly but read it through and it should make sense. Disclaimer: Rampant speculation below:

When Terry met Kim--Terry was not wealthy, was by no means handsome, but was a burgeoning businessman

When Kim met Terry--Terry was not wealthy and was by no means handsome. Kim was working through college, had a stable home life with her adopted family, and was/is very attractive

    ---break---

At the beginning, there is no clear evidence that Terry was looking for a trophy wife because he did not have the financial status necessary for a trophy wife. He met an employee that he connected with. This has happened in every single work-place I have ever been apart of.

DIsproven: Kim met Terry with the intentions of his money bags.Terry was young, healthy, and beginning to establish himself but wasn't there yet. The timeline to death is farrrrrrr to long for your standard trophy wife scenario

    ---break---

Kim as a trophy wife--I am not sure how this can be true because no husband of a trophy wife will be consistently embarrassed by continuous mistakes made by her at a business level. The point of a trophy wife is to show them off and give them money so they have nothing to complain about, not to see them consistently lambasted by fans and the media

    ---break---

Terry met a young Kim while she was working at a restaurant. At some point, they developed a connection. Terry likely recognized the struggles and hardships faced by Kim's background and wanted to put her into positions to help her have a sense of value. That is what friends and couples do for each out. As far as my research is concerned, becoming President of two Major sport franchises was not the first trial period for her aptitude. Terry trusted her ability to MANAGE and OVERSEE, and put her into those positions.

    --conclusion--

Terry very much loves and supports his wife. More than anything, Terry wants to see her succeed in the the positions she is in. He is willing to ruin a sports franchise than cause internal marital strife. Is this a smart idea? No, probably not. Do I think Terry is placing Kim in these positions because he wants to see her have her own success that she has been fighting for since birth. Do these things, if true, make Terry a bad person? Not in the slightest. Does, if true, these things make him a terrible owner? Absolutely.

The whole Kim is a gold-digger and a lot of the other borderline or full blown sexism, to me, comes from a place inside a person who has likely never felt the connect Terry and Kim have. Every sign points to the Pegula's being outstanding parents, who have raised tremendous kids, fully funded a D1 hockey program, and a bevy of other things. Is Kim fortunate for meeting Terry? Absolutely. Does that make either of them bad people for wanting their spouse to feel important and as a contributor? No. Does Kim need to step up her game? Absolutely. But this whole sexism thing is still. Terry loves his wife. Terry loves his kids. Terry wants to see their success probably more than he wants to see the Sabres win. The absolute cherry would be the Sabres winning with Kim in charges (which as far as my research shows would be historic). Is it nepotism? Sure. If people want to say Kim would never have this job without marrying Terry--sure. But nothing I have read about the Pegula's screams anything other than a loving family and inept at running a hockey team.

Hate Kim all you want. I despise the Pegula's for what they have done the the Sabres. But to say sexism is the reason for our failures or that Kim is incapable or righting this ship is BS.

Lastly, I can't believe I just wrote such a long post defending both Pegulas so I just want to say that I don't like either. But not because Kim is a woman and Terry is an idiot. Sexism is the lazy-man's go to when they can't think critically or need to reason to feel better about themselves.

Claptrap.Sexism is an accusation. The reality is everybody is incompetent at certain things. Men and women. Just because she's a woman doesn't mean that she can't be incompetent. She's proven this to us. She's in way over her head. She's no president. As for her "connection" with Terry...Puhlease.

  5. I seem to remember the Sabres were originally modeled after the Montreal Canadiens. An exciting finesse team. They almost made it in their 4-5 th year but fell short, and never got that close again for another 25 years. An interesting note was they were intimidated by the Flyers in that 74-75 finals. Possibly the most successful era of the Sabres was with Brad May, Rob Ray, Boughner and the gang. They specialized in the rough stuff.  Nobody wanted to come to Buffalo, let alone play them. When Muckler traded Mogilny for Peca, he said that people in Buffalo would relate to Peca, a smallish lunchbucket guy who hit hard and related to the character of the average blue collar Buffalonian. He saw a style that the fans would cheer for and he went out and got it. The team gelled. Muckler understood what makes Buffalo tick. Stealing Hasek didn't hurt.

This formula for success has become muddled over the years.

All good points.  The adversity Jack has faced definitely affects the comparison of the two.  The stability of the Bills organization could be the primary reason for success or it’s quite possible that it’s the leadership of Josh and his superior skill. Probably somewhere between.  And while the Sabres have had no success, is it not plausible  that Jack has contributed to the problems of the organization?  We know ownership and FO are definitely a factor.  It’s also not fair to paint a picture that Jack has not had complimentary pieces to help while Josh has.  Kane, Skinner and Hall to name a few.  As my comments were directed to what each player represents to their team at this very point in time, the addition of Diggs helped Josh achieve a third place finish in the MVP voting.  What did Hall do for Jack prior to the injury this year?  I know, it’s RFK and Hall’s fault.  Or Adam’s or Terry.  But definitely not Kim’s fault as we’ve established in this same thread.  Jack’s top finish in Hart voting was 8th in 2019, and this year was lackluster.  I know, injury suffered before camp. I’m curious as a medical doctor how you can be so defensive of Jack considering his recent wedge issue over surgery.  To me it’s abundantly clear he is obfuscating this issue and it’s all about him getting traded.  What is your professional opinion about the request for surgery?  Do you not except the Sabres Medical opinions based on fruit from a poisonous tree logic?  We probably will not come to agreement on Jack. A Captain, a leader should have integrity, perseverance and emotional intelligence to drive an organizations future success.  A player not in possession of these qualities when challenge would want to be traded.

Top points for using the word "obfuscating." Nice vocab and of course true.

Congratulations. That's quite an achievement. I think she is a smart women and have no reason to question her motives for her marriage. I don't likevthe way the franchise has operated under the Pegulas but it has nothing to do with her gender or integrity. I think you and I agree on the franchise but disagree on how we express our displeasure.

Thanks but I don't think she's very smart. I think as far as President of the Sabres, at least, she's incompetent. Her body of work proves it out. I don't need to see anymore. But the Pegulas have doubled down on it when TP declared Kim president for life. Where does that leave the team and where does that leave us? As far as her marriage, I have to wonder if TP met her while still married. His former wife has been scrubbed from the internet.

Let's list your accomplishments. Then we'll have  base to go by. She's in the public eye. Seems only fair you go public.

Sure. I won an Emmy Award and was nominated for another and I didn't have to marry anybody. Now then, her accomplishments on her own are...?

  10. I was a fan of the LA Angels dating back to the late 60s and one thing I learned from them was that after many, many years of futility, epic collapses, incompetence and a stadium that was built on an old Indian burial ground, in 1997 they came up with embarrassing Disney-designed uniforms that were labeled "softball beer league" uniforms by Chris Berman and "periwinkle blue" by the fans. Then something amazing happened. They won the World Series in 2002. Totally unexpected. After that it was back to the salt mines.

But as DeNiro as Rupert Pupkin said in "The King of Comedy": "Better to be king for a night than schmuck for a lifetime."

    You never know.

So considering they dumped Kane and O’Reilly and and Hall and Moulson, and they’re about to dump Eichel, and Okposo is probably in his last year, I read this as you’re a fan of the recent direction of the franchise?

In fact, all you probably need is a Pegula divorce to be flat out happy?

I don't like big mistakes for one decade straight. I don't see that ending. If the Pegulas (no apostrophe) divorce, there's no reason to be happy. She'll take him for all he's worth and own the team(s) by herself.

Sorry but I have no idea how some of you can make personal assessment of people you don't even know. I appreciate fair criticism.

I buy into results or extreme lack thereof. I don't buy into personal assessments of people. Bottom line, the Pegulas are incompetent at hockey.

I agree with all of this, starting with the aweful 'trophy wife' comment.

I suggest @Kong edit that out.  Just terrible.

If it was a man, it would be a grasping trophy husband. She is what she is. And here I was worried that posters would be offended by my expression "milky-eyed" Terry Pegula.

  13. This is my blast of hellfire, my rant. I've been a Sabres fan since 1970 and I think I've earned this right.

So many examples of bad characters on the Sabres the last few years magnified by how bad the team has been run since milky-eyed Terry Pegula and his grasping trophy wife bought their way in. No one believes in or fights for each other on this team. Cozens the rookie is the sole example. We have players who will play for one team but not for us. Eichel and Hall may be talented but they are two of my least-favorite Sabres of all time. Hall is a straight-up mercenary; can't stand the sight of him... All along it seems he wanted to get dished to a contender at the deadline and his passive-aggressive indifferent play landed his ticket out. Eichel...there's something about him, save all those flowers for the nurses, that makes me want to puke. Eichel is so negative, I don't want to hear one more word coming out of his mouth.Shut up! Okposo seems to be a nice guy but he fleeced the organization with his contract. How can he hold his head up with pride when he knows the team is paying him a king's ransom and he doesn't have the ability to play anymore, yet he stubbornly hangs on. We're still paying Ehrhoff $900K a year for the next six or seven years...Matt Moulson was paid approximately $7.95 million to only play 14 games with the Sabres from the start of the 2017-18 season through the end of his contract June 30, 2019. I still can't stand some of the guys who left: Kane and O'Reilly being among the top. None of these guys have any class. Then there are all the nobodies on the team. Then there's the "management team." I won't even get into that through the years. Ville Leino and Slava Kozlov move over.

I can only hope that somewhere down the line Cozens will emerge as a leader who will fight for his guys. What humiliation we've had to go through as Sabres fans since the Pegulas bought in. Used to be we were the small market that could. Now...we're the runaway laughingstocks of ice hockey.

At one point I would have been happy to contribute to an airplane banner or a billboard.  Now....not worth it.  It would have no impact on these clueless owners.  There is clearly a major disconnect between ownership and the fans.

To those who still want to defend them, good for you.  For the rest of us, there aren’t enough rosaries, candles, wishing wells, etc...  in the world that would change them into competent owners.

I hope you reconsider. If there's one thing the Pegulas don't like, it's to be embarrassed or humiliated. A 5 second clip of this would go national on ESPN, TSN, etc. perhaps world-wide. It would be humiliating because it would have everyone laughing at the Pegulas.

  15. We can still hire a plane to fly a banner past PSE HQ that reads Pegulas: Sell the Sabres or similar. Cost is $3500. I can't do it myself but will chip in if anyone else (rich) is interested. I actually got a price quote from a Buffalo company...The Pegulas are so blind to how spittin' mad and embarrassed the fans are because of their inept management. Maybe a plane with a banner and national media covering it might make them think twice.

Jim Schoenfeld was an excellent captain, he had the C removed and given to Danny Gare.  It was a surprise move and not at all popular at the time.

I read the Imlach book "Heaven and Hell in the NHL" and he (your namesake) said that Schoenfeld flat out refused to fight for his teammates after a few years. There was a cluster of players in the Sabres lockerroom, including Schoenfeld and Gare, who were dead set against Imlach. Funny thing is when they replaced Schoenfeld with Gare, Gare also betrayed Imlach and lobbied for his firing...so much so that Dodo had harsh words for Gare.

  17. I was just about front row in back of the Sabres bench when I saw Derek Roy play as a rookie at the TD Garden in Boston. His speed from that angle was electrifying. Vanek-Roy-Pominville was one of the top five Sabre lines ever. #9 was worn by a total of nineteen Sabres through the years including Eichel. None of the nineteen wore #9 for long except for Derek Roy, between 2004-2012, twice as long as anyone else.

The #9 is the most common retired number, put to the rafters 10 times, by 9 individual teams (New York Rangers retired it twice). Nine is often referred to as the best number of all-time, for the number of superstars to have donned it on their backs.

    The Sabres who wore #9:

    Reggie Fleming 1971

    Danny Lawson 1972

    Rick Martin 1973

    Norm Gratton 1973-1975

    Butch Deadmarsh 1973

    Rick Dudley 1975-1981

    Jacques Richard 1976-1979

    J.F. Sauve 1981

    Gilles Hamel 1982-1986

    Mike Moller 1982

    Scott Arniel 1987-1990

    Greg Brown 1991

    Viktor Gordiouk 1993-1995

    Vaclav Varada 1996

    Erik Rasmussen 1998-2002

    Derek Roy 2004-2012

    Steve Ott 2013-2014

    Evander Kane 2016-2018

    Jack Eichel 2019-2021
