Not being facetious, what did he do to earn the nomination? Or is this just the team punctuating their assertion that he is the leader? What does he do in the community? I'm asking in all seriousness cause, although I like Jack as a player, I don't see it.

He's been doing stuff with a charity for people who have Down Syndrome (Best Buddies I think it's called). A couple of kids who have Down Syndrome that I used to be a camp counselor for actually got to meet him through that charity and from what I understand was awesome with them.

So wait, you are here exclusively to create false realities and then believe in those because they make you feel better?  All combined with an inability to distinguish between that which is and that which is what you wish it to be?

I don't see any value to that sort of approach to a given topic at all.

Would it be possible for the Mods to create a "Booster Club" sub forum for posters like this?  You can all congregate there and exchange visions for how we are going to win the Cup next year.

Meanwhile, outside the cave, the rest of us can focus on getting it right and engaging in reasoned discussion grounded in reality.

Call me crazy, but I don't think the main objective of being a fan of any sports team is to enjoy take pride in and soak up all of the things  that make you miserable about it.

Why? Curious, not challenging you're opinion.

I'm not a hardcore hockey geek or draft wizard. I just like what I was able to gleam. The link from mynhldraft that you posted made several favorable comparisons to Hughes and I like the playmaker attribute that he's been thrown.

I'll probably be happy with whoever they take unless it's a major reach, but this happened to be the kid I ended up liking the most after reading these threads.

He looks like a James Bond villain.

    For that.... hire him!

As someone's who played Quantum of Solace and watched Casino Royale, I can appreciate that.

But seriously, what kind of system does he run? Can he bring a winning background to the locker room (all I know is that he had the misfortune of prosiding over the Sens' recent dumpster fire)? Overall is he a good fit to get the Sabres to the next level?

Ya I don't really understand.  The team falling off a cliff coincides with the timeline of him arriving.  Yet to my eye he's been very good.  Love his speed and aggressiveness.  I'm thinking this is just a bad coincidence but I would like to see the underlying stats as well.

I'm beginning to think his arrival at the deadline coincided with an unofficlal message to the team of "don't sweat the playoffs this year."

How can anyone around here forget ROR was here(as much as I'd like to).

If St Louis misses the playoffs (again)  by 1pt , we'll hear that everyone else on the team sucked. If they make the playoffs by a couple pts, we'll hear how it was because ROR made the difference and how we never should've made the trade.

While I admit my committment to watching these games has dropped considerably over the past couple of months, I have to say that it's pretty easy to see why ROR is so revered by these "woe-is-us, I-told-you-wesuck" posters. And it's not because of his playing ability...

    Math, drath.

Phil likes to go with whoever "has the hot hand" and other hockey-oriented wives tales that he has heard for his entire life around the game.

The thing is, Phil is new to the HC ranks of the NHL, but he is not really young.  He is from the old school and in that sense does not represent where this sport is going in the future.

The dichotomy between organizations following the data and those doing it the old way is really interesting to me, b/c a genuine competitive advantage is there to be had right now by the organizations that get it.

Eventually, everyone will catch up, everyone will follow the numbers, and that competitive advantage will disappear forever.

Unfortunately, we are on the wrong side of the equation at the moment.
