  1. The Pontiac Silverdome was built in 1975.  It was used by the Lions for 26 years and by the Pistons for 10 years.  That facility also used a curtain during BB games which seemed to take away from the character of the internal structure.  My biggest complaint when watching the Pistons a few times was that the crowd noise was absorbed by the huge building.  Granted, the Pistons were not very good for most of their time in the Dome. but IMO it seemed like it was a quiet venue.  It's likely that architecture and sound absorption is much different than it once was.

Guess that was back before your days in the Motor City Doohickie?

  2. Yea, kinda thought so.  He averages a shot per game and I remember reading on DBB  that he was a stay at home dman (although the read was some time ago).  Seems like if he's now paired with Darlin that he would be more the safety than Rasmus.  What do you think - Ink?

  3. Said previously on the board that Car took what they could get.  GM Don Waddell said. "We talked to every team in the League over the past four months, and ultimately the Sabres were the team that provided us with the best value in return, including three picks and a prospect we like in Cliff Pu."  Apparently no other team was willing to give "a bunch" for Skinner in the final year of his contract.  I love the deal and am hoping that he does will and we can sign him long-term.

There's literally a guy whining to Jeremy White that his Winter Classic jersey "from 6 months ago" is outdated now. It's a one-time shot jersey from an outdoor game. It's not supposed to be current.

Speaking on the WC jersey's.  I think that they rock.  Was there ever any discussion about making them permanent?  With royal blue the home jerseys of course.

I'm not arguing against his most productive season and Duchene.  It is interesting that both of those players forced their way out of Colorado though.

Also interesting that Colorado's fortunes changed after they both left.  Not saying that its 100% the reason but ....... perhaps a plus due to culture change.

  6. I would love for the Sabres to find a way to get Tkachuk, but I don't see any way of it happening without giving up too much and setting the team back.

I think he has an "IT" factor.  Perhaps it's just my exposure to his personality and not others...

Totally agree LTS. and well said.  There is an "it" factor.  If he goes to the Habs, I hope that he doesn't turn into a Sabre Killer like Damphousse.  Man, it seemed like he scored on us every game.

  7. I think that this quote from Kimelman on Tkachuk is funny "his size and strength will make his teammates a few inches taller".  With Montreal or Ottawa poised to draft him, looks like we might see him a bunch of times each season.  As you all know by now I wish that we could see him 82+ times per season.

  8. Speaking of hitting on second-rounders, how come no one talks about last year's number 2, Marcus Davidsson?

20 points in 38 games in the top Swedish league last year — second highest scoring teenager after Elias Pettersen.

Fast, two-way guy, plays centre and wing — looks a lot like Asplund in terms of his upside.

Funny you ask.  In Harrington's article today he mentioned that the Sabres are "high on second-round center Marcus Davidson and second-round goalie Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen".

  9. I just read 6 reviews on Wahlstrom and it seems that he is offensively gifted - something that we desperately need.  There is no mention of him as a two way player in those reviews.  The link posted above mentions that he has to work out defensive kinks.  I'm still in the Tkachuk camp as he could be an immediate contributor in replacing ROR production while Wahlstrom works on his D at Boston College.  In addition BT brings toughness and attitude which we also need.

  10. Yea, good points.  who would we have to add to make Ott or Det interested?

Vancouver’s Pick at 7 is listed on the TSN Trade Bait List.

Per Sportsnet Elliott Friedman they would be willing to trade 7th Overall to Carolina as part of a Hanifin Deal, he does not believe that the same offer has been extended to Buffalo for ROR, but he also said that could change.

The only way I would consider trading ROR to Vancouver where that pick is a central piece is that on draft night Oliver Wahlstrom or Quinn Hughes is still on the board when it’s Vancouver’s Pick.

    Hmmm, interesting.

  11. I agree. So we don’t need to trade our best all atound center, who happens to be one of the best all around centers in the league, for a winger prospect. We have Casey until he is ready to move ROR to wing, where he can continue to be one of the best all around players in the league.

    I

I can't disagree.  I like ROR because --- well there is a lot to like.  In order to get value you have to give value.  That's just the way it works.  Prospects are a big part of any rebuild.  Look at the Blueberry Muffins.  They had a lot of prospects and now have two playoffs appearances with them.

I'm still interested in hearing from our esteemed board if ROR can bring a return of a 4 - 8 draft pick.

  12. Do you think that ROR could bring a round 1 draft pick in the 4-8 range?  I'm impressed with the talent of Brady Tkachuk.  He had a great WJC, spoke well at the combine and analysts have given him glowing reviews.  Button @ TSN "makes  teams and those he plays with better" - which is a heck of an endorsement.

Would  it take more that ROR to get the pick?  Who?

And besides we need a "chuk" on our team --- the more the better.

  13. This gets so old. These guys are not supposed to be cheerleaders for the team. If they write things you hate or disagree with, it doesn't make them terrible. They're doing their job. Advice: stick to sabres.com. Or Chuck Pollock. He loves Terry because they played racquetball once in 1983.

Pollock wrote an article on how he couldn't criticize the Bills-Sabres owners.  Then he proceeds to criticize through the thoughts of other writers.  Come on man.

Be careful defending Whaley over that press conference. It's a trigger for some people.

    But what is their job?

I recently had a twitter exchange with Jay Skurski about his story saying the Bills cap guy Overdorf sucks and should be fired. His argument was because the Bills lost Hogan and Gillislee to the Patriots, Overdorf must be mismanaging the cap.

I asked him to be more specific. Why is the cap mismanaged? What contract was a mistake? How much falls on Overdorf when Whaley is signing the players? All I get back is look at the results.

I left it there because I didn't want to get into an argument but doesn't that strike you as pretty lazy?

    Thanks for the warning Promo.

Good on you for calling out Skurski.
