  1. No. Eichel is just a kid breaking into the league, not somebody you take orders from.

Hypothetical of course, but let's say Eichel tells GMTM if DB stays he goes. Would you still say this then, or let a guaranteed franchise talent walk just because he's young?

I like the way Murray handled the press. I thought he was a straight shooter like he mostly has been and like that he was willing to take his share of the blame. Like how he handled the Kulikov questions and said he would shoulder the blame for how that trade turned out and for how Kulikovs season went. Wouldn't lay any of the blame at the feet of the player.

I've always respected TM for this. In a type of business where most people try to hide as much as possible, he's always honest and open to talking about just about anything.

  2. This is a takeoff on the more conservative, "tweak" approach dudacek seems to propose in his "What's our best move?" poll. Add a defenseman, drop a disappointing coach.

I'd like to think bigger, bolder, brasher. This franchise needs a jolt, a shock, an ice-bucket challenge. But what?

I'd make a poll, but I don't think I have that many ideas.

A hockey czar would be one approach. Almost by definition, that would entail cleaning front-office house and shaking up the roster and maybe taking a step back, if that's even possible.

Trading an untradeable would be another. The return on an Eichel would have to be real and spectacular.

Finally, there's an approach that would seem to fly in the face of my anti-meddling philosophy: if Pegulas are gonna Pegul, then change up the Pegulas. If Kim and Terry want to focus like a laser beam on the Bills, they should give Terry's oldest children operational control of the Sabres.

Like that infamous orangutan said, "What the hell do you have to lose?!"

Snark is invited, but I'm really interested in outside the box ideas that could radically change the path we're on, which appears to be a path toward a first-round exit in 2019 (followed by a parade, of course).

  3. I still can't believe NES Classic is still unable to be found in stores.  Figured Nintendo would've had the shelves stocked by now.

Nothing creates an unreasonable amount of demand like inexplicably low supply. This has been Nintendo's MO with home consoles since the Wii launch.

  4. I mean, name modern coaches in any sport that have won championships with different teams. Phil Jackson? Then who?

DD fell ass backwards into that Cup the same way Madden did into a World Series this year.

Wait, are you saying being handed the most talented top to bottom roster in the middle of a season had more to do with him winning than his "system"? I can't believe it.

  5. Debating what game to pick up next.  Need suggestions for the PS4.  In today's gaming world prices on games drop fast.  So preferring one that may be going for $40 or less.  Resident Evil 7 is already down to that w/ a few gaming chains.  Speaking of Resident EVII (7), what do those of you that have played it think? Also considering The Last Guardian.  Minus fighting or racing games, never got into them, I'm looking for any credible game. Oh, and what about Batman Arkham Night?  Shows I'm open to just about anything.  Doesn't have to be a brand new game.  So fire away Sabres fans.  Always prefer the general population opinion.

Resident Evil 7 is great, not as good as 1-3 but still a lot of fun. Short though. Last Guardian has awful controls and camera, but it beautiful and really makes you care about the Trico (the bird dog thing). Arkham Asylum is very good also, definitely the best of the three you mentioned imo. As far as other PS4 titles, I'll give you some console exclusives to check out. If you haven't played The Last of Us, that's first on my list. Then you have Uncharted 1-4, 1-3 is on a combo collection that is pretty cheap now and 4 is the best of the series. Horizon just came out and is fantastic. Bloodborne if you can deal with incredibly difficult but intense and rewarding games.

  6. I like to think of them as *classics*.

Clara, is another that comes to mind.

My dad remarried someone much younger who wanted kids. Ended up having two girls, Opal and Clara. Didn't really like either when they first told me that's what they were going with but they definitely grew on me. Especially Opal.

  7. I think there are lots of personality types that can be good coaches.  Some of the best are pretty quiet.  I think y'all are reading too much into DD's demeanor.  Yes he certainly has his flaws, but being quiet doesn't preclude him from being a good coach.

Thus ends our Diversity and Inclusion Minute for today.

I don't need my coach to yell at the media and his players. Quiet is fine with me as long as it's quiet confidence. What I do need is my coach to stop making statements basically saying he's scared.

I need to see or hear this speech.  Anyone got a link?

Was closed door. No coaches involved, just players and GMTM.

  8. Listened to the postgame on the radio last night. PHam asked Kane, O'Reilly, and Foligno if they all though "here we go again" after PHX tied it up. All three players in effect said that isn't the mentality they want to have, and they were there to win. During DD's conference, he was asked the same. And he said he thought exactly that. If that doesn't say all that needs to be said about his mentality I don't know what does. He is someone who is afraid to lay it all out on the line for a win. I don't want that mentality here, especially with the young impressionable talent we have.

  9. Maybe our D is to slow to deal with the Oilers counter attack ?

This. We are down our two easily fastest guys on the team, and there's no one playing defense on our team that can keep up with the Oilers forwards. While I was driving home from the first game Moulson said in his postgame that they're just as fast a team as Montreal and I audibly groaned.
