  1. By sheer happenstance, I was introduced to Stranahan's Colorado Whiskey.  100% barley mash bill.  Aged in previously used casks (sherry, bourbon, etc.) Very interesting flavor profile - unlike anything else I've tried.  Not cheap, but I think worth the price.

Aside from their "standard" whiskey, they make two others: Diamond Peak (which I have not tried) and a sherry cask-aged version of their standard.  I've tried the sherry cask aged - it has a wonderful bouquet and an utterly fascinating taste and finish.  Whether drinking straight or mixed, the finish is extremely redolent of...baseball glove leather.  That's right, baseball glove leather.  Not leather from a book or a car seat (eeeeuww!), but from a brand-new baseball glove.  I swear.  Maybe that doesn't sound too appealing, but it is fascinating to experience.

I get a similar note from Elijah Craig 12

  2. See, I don't think having Jack in his off wing necessitates constantly teeing him up for one timers. It's a tactical choice. He can be in the same spot and utilize his passing more, while still keeping the option for the shot. Watch the Flyers and how Giroux handles the exact same position.

Moving him to the other side removed the one timer option, and I don't like doing that.

I'd keep PP1 as is and add Dahlin and Casey to PP2 and that should really help them improve

    PP2 was almost always terrible

Completely agree with both of you.

  3. Now that the warm weather is back, I’ve been treading into unfamiliar waters recently. I’ve been wanting some fruity/juicy beer but not too sweet, so I’ve tried a few IPAs. Now I’ve never been a fan of IPAs, so anything that isn’t along the lines of a New England style IPA is still too hoppy and bitter for me. But I’ve enjoyed Blue Point citrus plunge, Flying Bison Juice caboose, and Great Lakes cloud cutter.

  4. Bought myself Glenmorangie 12 Quinta Ruban that I'm waiting to open after I graduate with my Master's. Never had it before, but I've heard nothing but great things about it.

If anyone likes the flavor of cherries and is looking for a good budget buy, Jim Beam Distiller's Cut is a nice option. I know, I was skeptical too with it being a Jim Beam product, but the bourbon is aged 5-6 years and it has a lot of barrel flavor with a hint of cherries after that barrel punch goes away. $26 for a bottle with bourbon aged up to 6 years is a good value to me.

  5. From the SHL highlights he can be a great option on the PP, kind of Laine light.

Not sure where he lines up at even strength, 3rd line?

That's what I was envisioning, but I'm a casual fan so I really don't have much basis behind me thinking that's where he would fit in

  6. He'll need to go to Rochester for sure. Just like Asplund

Yeah that's what I figured. I'm especially excited for Olofsson though. His stick handling and his shot just scream NHL. I think he would get an immediate position on the team's 2PP line whenever he is called upon to join the big club

  7.

    That's an excellent post.

Does anyone else think this might just be a placeholder until this next offseason passes and he has more numbers available to him? Or is the 37 here to stay?

Either way, if he pans out like I think he will, I'll be getting a MIttelstadt sweater once the Sabres re-do their blue on the home jerseys for their anniversary

  8. Are we expecting Olofsson to go straight to the big club, or start out in Rochester and get acclimated to the North American game for a season? I am very excited at the idea of his scoring touch being added to the Sabres, but don't want to assume he can make such a big leap in one offseason.

  9. I never said he has the right mindset, perhaps he doesn't.

Oh wait, just went back and saw that's why you would need to sit down with him. I mis-remembered the post.

Either way, even if he has the right mindset, it won't allow him to place the ball any better than he does now which is sub par.

  10. With the right mindset he can improve.

    How has Darnold failed expectations?

Trust me on Mayfield, he's going to get eaten alive in the NFL.

If this made any logical sense, then why hasn't he improved his accuracy yet with his superb mindset?

  11. I don't hold many strong opinions on projecting QBs into the NFL -- because, of course, I don't know much about it.

One thing I do firmly believe: Once a QB prospect is ~20+ years old, his accuracy can be tweaked or improved marginally, but not substantially or meaningfully. Which is why I want no part of Allen.

Agreed. I don't worry too much about certain aspects of playing QB, like throwing motion. As long as the release is quick over the top, I can put up with a bit of a windup and the bottom of the motion.

But accuracy? That's something you're born with. Can a QB coach refine mechanics and footwork to help create some consistency? Sure, but that may adjust your completion percentage by 2 or 3% max.

  12. I'm not sold on the idea that McCarron is a better QB than Taylor.

Darnold -  He's the real deal IMO.  Watched him play a bunch of games for San Clemente High and he was absolutely unreal... intangibles off the charts.     Down to earth, honest, realistic.   Great mindset to be successful in the NFL.  Couldn't help but wishfully think he might be a Bill someday.

Mayfield -  Nope.  I don't believe his mind is in the right place to find consistent success at the next level.

Rosen - Hard pass.   Too fragile.

Allen - Not sure about him.    HIs stats aren't great, but that arm and that size... wow.    Would need to sit down face to face and have an extensive interview to find what makes him tick, how self-motivated and disciplined he is.    Is he humble, is he his own worst critic?

Doesn't matter how humble he is or what discipline is there... Dude can't hit the side of a barn

  13. This is just annoying. Hate when they do stuff like this

I hate it too. Sends everyone into a frenzy. I'm expecting it to be a trade for a vet QB. I'm afraid it's a trade that we give up some sort of valuable asset. Who knows, but I think Sal wouldn't choose that emoji if it was a resoundingly positive rumor he was hearing.

  14. What does this even mean ? Sure coaches can move on, but so can key players.

There wasn't a follow up question to that portion of his answer. I would assume he's intentionally speaking in generalities with it being the offseason and not wanting to tip his hand too much.

But you never draft players assuming they will move on from the team if they're successful. You assume your most successful coaches will move on from the team because it happens every single year as coaches receive promotions from other teams

  15. A 2 is a 10 at 10 minutes to 2 probably doesn't work for QBs.

It's not that the other GMs don't properly identify the same guy - the QB selected has to fit in with the scheme favored by the OC. I believe I read that Daboll said he prefers a pocket passer.

In some cases, GMs actually do just fail to evaluate properly regardless of scheme of the OC...

Here's a quote from Brandon Beane just a few days ago via the Buffalo News on what to look for in a QB for Daboll's scheme specifically:

Q: How much of a fit is the coordinator and the QB, given coaches change?

A: We're looking for good football players at every position. Yes, coaches move on. So we've got to draft a good football player who fits the Buffalo Bills. You're exactly right, Brian could be a head coach somewhere. Yeah, I'm not just going to draft a guy who only fits what Coach Daboll does.

Beane has said in the past that he wants a QB that wins from the pocket and can make plays in the pocket, but honestly what GM doesn't want that?
  16. This is all I am looking for. If that was your plan and you thought our picks were better used waiting for Rudolph because the talent gap wasn't as big as perceived, that's fine as long as you can convince me you weren't just taking the last girl at the bar when the lights come on.

Right, it's not so much worrying about us being the first to draft a QB. It's more so ensuring that our GM is hellbent on getting the best QB he possibly can, whether that be trading up or sticking back because he knows the guy he thinks is the best isn't being properly identified by other GMs. Either way, I want total conviction in the guy they draft and I want him on record saying it so the fan base knows the plan was executed.

And if they can't get the QB or two (or three) that Beane labeled a potential franchise guy, I don't want him taking any QB early. Either believe in your heart and soul in the guy or don't waste an early pick trying to convince yourself otherwise.

  17. I'll at least give you credit for pointing out more than just "Brady was a 6th rounder", and I recognize that good QBs can come from outside the top 5. Brees and Wilson dropped because of size concerns but were good QBs, and Rodgers was supposed to go top 5 but dropped over one team getting spooked. We can go back and forth bringing up examples on the merits of early picks v. waiting for a lottery ticket to hit, but I don't think that solves anything.

More than anything, I want some conviction from the Buffalo Bills to indicate that they had a plan and executed it to get the guy they wanted. For far too many years we have let the market or other teams dictate what we did, and we were always left with everyone else's second (or worse) choices at the QB position

I'm with this. I'm all for making a move up this year and getting "the guy" if the GM is completely convinced that a guy at the top is a premier prospect. I'd much rather see that than to sit back and hope that the 4th guy ends up being better than the rest. Now, if Beane's evaluation leads to the conclusion that someone like Rudolph is truly the premier prospect and he know he can wait and get him, then fine. But he better articulate the fact that he felt Rudolph was the best prospect in the class regardless of scheme after doing that
