  1. Kane has missed 97 games.  45 of those games come from this past season where he had his shoulder injury, which he received the season before.  Considering Foligno had the same surgery, I am not very worried about Kane only playing 63 games a season now that he is recovered. Stafford could have played 622 games, we ignore the season he split time in the AHL.  Stafford has missed 74 games since going full NHL pro.

Bogo doesn't compare to Kane, he compares to Myers. Myers has missed 69 games.  Bogosian missed time his first season because he split time in the AHL.  Out of the 458 games he could have played outside that first split season, he has missed 91 games if my math is right.

    Myers + Stafford = 143 games

    Kane + Bogo = 188 games

or a difference of 45 games over the course of 6 or so seasons for 2 players.

Proof that you can make numbers say whatever you want...what about the fact that Staf started int he league 3 years before Kane? Kane has missed 23 more games in 3 less years!

Bogo has lost 32 more games in 5 seasons so 6.4 more games or about a full season projected over a career.

  2. I'd take 15g and 25-30a from Staf on the 2nd line no problema.

He isn't expected to score 30 times a year and put up 70 points...

Regarding him missing games, he has averaged about 72 games a year for the last 7 not counting the lockout year. Check out how many games Bogo and Kane have missed not counting the lockout year...Bogo is averaging 67 and Kane is averaging 63 per season. I really hope Kane has grown up and doesn't cause any troubles in the sabres' locker room for you guys.

If we get 35-45 points a year from Drew, we'll be happy.

  3. The Winnipeg play-by-play guy was on Hockey Hotline the other day and said it was likely that Stafford would start the season on the top line, replacing Frolik.

I'll say it again:  Stafford has all the physical tools but not the mental focus and edge needed to be a consistently effective player.  If Winnipeg needs him to hold down a top-line slot, they are in trouble.

Staffford playing on our first line? Fro playing on our first line? Just wondering if he said who Fro's linemates were on that 1st line? Fro played some LW as did Staf last year. Staf was putting up most points on a line with Scheifele and Wheeler (who at 61 points would be considered our 1RW) playing on the LW.

Frolik, Perrault and Stafford all played a couple of forward positions last year and Perrault played all 3 (as well as point on PP).

I see Staf as a 2RW for this year and a 2-3RW next year depending on players stepping up or not (like Ehlers and Armia). After that I am hoping we don't have to try to re-sign him as other players will push him out.

The line of Ladd-Little-Wheeler/Perrault/Frolik is generally considered to be the 1st line by most people around here.

This is what I think our line up will look like this year.

    Ladd-          Little-           Wheeler

    Perrault-     Scheifele-    Stafford

    Ehlers-        Lowry-         Armia

    Thorburn-    Copp -         Burmistrov-

    Buff-                   Trouba

    Enstrom-            Myers

    Stuart/Chiarot-   Postma

(I think Morrissey will play a few games at the start of the season with the Jets on D but will be shipped down after a handful of games to be called back up for good around the all-star break.)

    Pavelec and Hutchinson

  4. Kane needs to have a true playmaker as a Center. He is a shooter, a goal scorer and doesn't pass all that much.

If you make the playoffs, you will have a warrior on your team. He will play as hurt as the doctors will let him. VERY high pain threshold.

He will be disruptive in the room and his act will wear thin is what I am guessing. He'll probably net 25-30 goals is what I am guessing.

  5. I'd be surprised if Lemieux saw time on the 2nd PP to be honest. He might on the farm though.

He is, supposedly, one of the better players at development camp that is going on right now.

I think Armia also stays on the farm to start the season. He needs to be more consistent without the puck from what I am reading.

Ehlers has the best chance to make the big team. Maybe Morrissey.

I am anxious to see what Hellebuyck does at TC.

  6. Smart move by both if you ask me. The Jets get Staf for 2 years while developing prospects and Staf gets a mild bump in pay (although living here is very inexpensive compared to other NHL cities), and a chance for a big contract and probably just in time for expansion.

He scored nine goals and 10 assists in 26 games and seemed to make the line with Scheifele and Wheeler really come together. We've got some RW prospects that should be ready by then and it is a really shrewd deal by Chevy.

  7. ROR gives you guys one of the best if not the best C lineup in the league. You can't win without quality centermen. If ROR re-signs, Buffalo wins the trade...if he doesn't, they paid dearly.

Your GM is smart enough to know that he has to surround his superstar with quality players and he is doing it.

You should mention to him that we can trade you Buff and Stuart to help with your D.

  8. Or that was the first year Montreal didn't have dibs any more. :)

    I took a look at Montreal's seasons since 1970:

    - I didn't realize the run they were on from 67-80. Am I reading that right, they had 8 cups in 13 years? Yikes!

    - If you take the "we get dibs" effect out (they presumably got good FC kids in 67-69 and those kids played well for the Habs through the 70s) and start with 1980, they have only two cups.

They won 10 cups from 65 to 79....10 out of 15, not bad. There stars weren't all FC....Dryden, Gainey, Shutt, Robinson, etc...Sammy Pollock was a VERY good GM and made some smart trades too. Just think of some of the farm teams back then when there weren't that many teams in the NHL....there must have been some great players down there.

  9. Anyone that thinks there is a racism here towards blacks are not seeing clearly. Little. Ladd and Wheeler have all taken shite and they aren't black. There is not the same attitude towards blacks in Canada as there is the USA. I guide Americans for duck hunting and I see a lot of it. I see racism towards aboriginals here but not to the same degree of hatred. This is in general and I am not trying to upset anyone on this forum. There are dickwads in every country on the planet. Nobody is coming down on Buff because he is (half) black. He is catching it because he is our one legit superstar and he hasn't played like one. Getzlaf and Perry have.

Enstrom is really catching a lot of ire around here so are we racist towards Swedes? The Ducks are hammering him EVERY time they have the chance...it is playoff hockey and if the Ducks didn't, they wouldn't be coached well. Buff and Ladd were 2 players in a parting of ways with numerous other players (contracts) after their first cup since 1961. They couldn't stay under the cap.

Buff might be moved this off-season if they can't re-sign him. A quality LH shooting D man and a high pick or good prospect in return would do it. Ladd only has a year left too. Glad I'm not the GM of this team. It'll be over shortly and the attention around here will lean towards the draft and off-season trades.

  10. The Ducks and Jets are similar teams....fast and big. Both goaltenders are playing playoff hockey. They are close to equal so far. Their top level players are playing top level. Ours are not. Little checked like a girl on that play. Ladd must be playing hurt because his game has gone dwonhill. There was't much space out there last night but they are more opportunistic and seem to want it more....I wasn't happy with Myers' handling the puck in yesterday's game and he seemed hesitant with it. Little finishes his check, there is no goal and the game goes to OT. Little was on the ice to prevent a goal. oops Screw the missed penalties on the extra man and holding the stick, calls are missed, you have to show the killer instinct and put the game away instead of letting the team back in the game in the third period. The Ducks played better when they needed to. Also, the special teams are sucking hind titty, big time, and theirs is playing very well. Hopefully the home ice advantage means two wins.

    GO JETS GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  11. @!%@#^$ Ducks!!!!!!!!

    Our goalie deserved a win.

Ladd took a penalty that ultimately cost us the game. The captain has to be better than this.

I liked Staf's game but not Myers' at all.

Where's the goal scorers??? Pardy scores his first goal since 1903 and that's it? The only reason he was in was to help the PK!

We need the whiteout to help turn the tide or butter us, we're toast.

Leading into the 3rd in both games and nada.......

On a sidenote, I hate that the Deadmonton Cryers got the pick. They don't deserve it. How many very recent first overalls do they have and they still qualify for the #!? Gimme a break. Great that the 2nd overall would be a #1 on mosy any other year.

    GO JETS GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  12. They both helped us get into the playoffs and we needed it this year. It gives Scheifele and Trouba and Lowry a taste and also rewards the team for all the hard work....now, if we could just win the game Saturday night....

If Kane plays to potential, you guys will be happy. If he keeps up his current pace of 25 goals a year, is he worth it? There's a guy in the minors by the name of Nikolaj Ehlers that can't fo to the farm team and is too good for Junior, if he makes the team and rounds out to to the player that management expects, Kane's goals will be replaced.
