  1. Jack Eichel is not staying in school, he will turn pro this summer.

The guy is an elite athlete and an elite competitor. People like that want to be on the big stage and prove themselves against the best.

Does anyone really think a few off-handed remarks by Tim Murray sway Eichel in the least ? If you do, you don't know how elite competitors think.

Jack Eichel can't wait to be in the NHL to prove he is the best !

  2. What will always stand out to me is the repeated attempts by The Buffalo News (specifically Bucky and Harrington) to try and shame the Sabres organization for rebuilding in a manner that significantly increased the odds to get the first pick or at a minimum a very high pick.

TBN's apparent agenda and disdain for Pegula and I guess, Tim Murray shocks me. Their fixation on all things negative makes them look desperate for a perspective that creates attention, because it certainly doesn't make any long term sense to the health of this franchise.

My negativity the last two weeks of the season stemmed from an apparent lack of finality by the GM to the stated objective, it almost felt like he was "chickening out" on finishing the job.

What the TBN did was decide to embark on a year long crusade to drive public opinion against the tank and fracture the fan base even more than it was.

I'm glad WGR was supportive, almost to a fault, because without that media counter balanced, it would have been impossible to survive this season.

  3. They blocked you because you were acting like an @ss but I think even if they did draft 3rd in this draft they will get an NHL All Star and an impact player.  It would be like drafting on the Sam Reinhart level again.  2 players like Sam will drastically change the team.  That being said I think we need to "finish the drill".  Eichel and McDavid are the prize at this point.

    Also, welcome to Georgia.

I apologize if I came across like a donkey.  I was trying to be provocative and "poke the bear" to wake everyone on this thread up.  I just started reading this forum a few months ago and never posted before a few weeks back.  I never thought my comments would lead to bunnies (whatever that means) and blocking.

To be honest, when I read the last 10-20 pages of this thread I felt like all of you were simply willing to accept what happens and stay committed as fans, almost like you are victims of abuse afraid to speak up.

I think we deserve better as fans.

Nolan is being paid by the Sabres, he should be aligned to the franchise's objectives, if he is not Murray should take action.  I don't think that is asking too much.

Love Georgia, but boy do I miss La Nova, Wegman's, Duff's and Ted's.

  4. I thought we were quoting stupid things Giulianni has said, my mistake. :) Since we're talking about planning, what's your plan if the Sabres don't "Finish the Job"? I've already laid mine out: I keep watching and hoping the Sabres win it all some day.

Drastically lower expectations for this franchise over the next 3-4 years and decide how much time and treasure to invest in this team.

I'm really not trolling, I'm just extremely frustrated and feeling betrayed as a STH that this team sold me a bill of goods.  I did my part, I renewed my STH's even after I moved to Macon.  I fly back 4-5 times a year and catch 9-10 games in person.  Is it too much to ask the franchise to do whatever they can to finish the job that they defined themselves as the mission ?

I'm surprised so many of you are so complacent that you are willing to block me ?

Granted I made some provocative statements, but I wasn't the one trolling pictures of bunnies in response to serious questions that I've raised about the commitment our franchise has shown us fans.

Again, block away.  But closing your eyes and ears to the truth is just lying to yourself.

  5. "I think [George W.] Bush did a great job in that debate." - Rudy Giullani : equally stupid. We're fans, we only get hope since there's essentially nothing we can do to affect strategy.

Last I checked Bush won, so, I guess he did do a better job in the debate.

BTW, I bet my girlfriend that you'd bring George Bush into this, you libs are so predictable.

  6. No, we wear our big-boy or big-girl pants and accept what it is in move on with hope based on what we have.

"Because 'change' is not a destination, just as 'hope' is not a strategy."

                                                                                                        --- Rudy Giuliani 9/3/2008

  7. There is not a single person interested in that. Not one.

We're just not going to cry like little girls (no offense to little girls) and piss and moan about giving up all hope for the team if we don't get one.

I got it.  So, when the proverbial sh*t hits the fan, we'll just pretend we have McEichel on the team.  Will they still sell jerseys or will that be pretend too ?

What's this called the Cinderella strategy of coping as fans who haven't won a Cup in our existence ?

  8. This is the Carrion Thread isn't it ?

You know, the thread where fans gather to cheer their team to last place.

For those of you more interested in the team picking 3rd and missing out on a generational talent, why don't you start a "I'm a wimpy fan, without any balls and love mediocrity" thread

No wonder this organization take us real fans for granted.

  9. Lindback in net tonight.

This franchise is so dysfunctional it doesn't deserve a generational talent.

Unf**king believable, one regulation loss away and you play the HOT goaltender.

I guess Mr. Murray decided to spend day in Erie drooling instead of instructing his subordinate to FINISH THE JOB and start Hackett.

    Insane.

  10. I think my problem is that I broke my laptop and am stuck using mobile, which doesn't let me see anything on posters' profiles. Who is he? A new poster suspiciously similar to an old one?

Seriously ?  What are you a bunch of 12-year old girls talking in the schoolyard (who is this poster ?, what is his profile?), wow !  This is one of the most pivotal times in this franchise's history and the two of you are worried about my profile and whether I'm some reincarnation of some older poster ??

Focus on the task at hand and . . .

    Finish the job.

  11. Moar bunnies!

    o-BUNNY-570.jpg?1

What, you don't have the stomach to do what's necessary to get to last place ?

Why do you think they call this TANKING, it takes hard work, commitment and a resolve that most teams, franchises and fans aren't willing to undertake.  We aren't pushovers like France in WWII, we are England, we will fight to the end to see this through, we will fight on the seas, we will never surrender to weak minded and pussified fans, never !

    Finish the job!

  12. I doubt he knew them better than his scouts but I still maintain he listens to what they say and will adjust his thoughts accordingly.

You are killing me. Hackett just got healthy as of today.  You really think Murray should start him?  Why?  Lindback has crappy numbers too.  Maybe Lindback has terrible numbers against Columbus?  Your point is hyperbole and frankly I am annoyed at this point but all of the over-exaggeration going on around this place.

Didn't Lindback just make 49 saves against the Canes ?

I guess you want to pick 3rd and miss out on a generational talent.

The owner and GM should leave nothing to chance.  Field the absolute worst lineup, play the 4th line as much as you can.

Wake up Buffalo, we are one regulation loss away from landing the best prospect since Gilbert Perrault, why are we letting off the gas with the finish line in sight and another car 2 lengths behind us ???

    Finish the job.

  13. I actually think the Reinhart pick was influenced by Devine. From all Murray has done and added to this team, Sam Bennett was more his type.

Well first thing is we are drafting high again this year, regardless of the next 3 days.  The second thing is Tim Murray needed a coach to hold the locker room together so it did not turn into Toronto.  Again Nolan has done that. What action do you think Ted Nolan should be taking in the last 2 games to carry out what you perceive as Murray's order to finish DFL?

    Start Hackett.

  14. I don't see how you can prove this, or how it's even true. They won games they weren't supposed to, just like we've won games we weren't supposed to. There is nothing more short Murray can do to make this team the worst in the league, which it already is. The Sabres didn't put any faith into the Coyotes beating anyone, we took the necessary actions to make sure we were the worst team, and the Coyotes also made those actions, so it's a closer race than we anticipated. That doesn't mean we failed to do something but instead just hinged our entire tanking efforts on Arizona winning those two games.

The Sabres embarked on a strategy to completely dismantle their entire roster in order to rebuild by drafting high for 2-3 years and getting superstar players.  They go to all that effort, yet, folks on this board want to defend the inaction of the GM to not fire the coach that is standing in the way of achieving that strategy ?

    That makes no sense.

So, it's okay to trade away every UFA worth anything to worsen the roster so we lose, but it's not okay to fire the man behind the bench that is coaching the team and trying to win every f**king game ?

That is the definition of insanity if I ever heard it.

  15. Sure, but you're acting like we're not in last and heavily favored to finish that way.

You're also acting like TM didn't purge the roster of any and all bodies at the deadline.  It might have even hurt our chances when we traded Mitchellsons and Flynnos, because now TN is finally playing Larsson and Grigorenko in their spots.

Sabres are putting a lot of faith in losing (in regulation) these final two games.  They put a lot of faith that Arizona would beat Detroit and San Jose these final two weeks.  Seems to me, we are leaving way too much for chance.  In a normal draft year, that might be acceptable.  In a draft year where you are starring at two generational talents, that's insane.

  16. Maybe Tim Murray grudgingly took Karabacek and Cornel on the heavy recommendation of leftover Darcy scouts. Maybe after having the time to personally scout them heavily this year, he is poised to fire those scouts for incompetence.

And Nolan decided to go a vendetta? The one that has resulted in a 4-14 record in the past 18 games?

    Well, what do you know?

The one that has the Sabres only 2 points ahead of the Coyotes with 2 games to play.

Your logic is no different than a contending team being satisfied finishing 9th and missing the playoffs because they had 95 points.  The job is to finish last, no matter the record.

  17. You think Murray should have fired Nolan because he was trying to hard?  Yeah, NHL officials would have loved that.  I could actually see Nolan, who has been screwed before, filing a lawsuit against the Sabres if that had happened.  It'd be a decent breach of contract claim, too.

If I was CEO of a company and our strategy was to provide the best customer service and I had a manager who wasn't on the same page, I would fire him.  Why is Nolan any different ?  When Nolan signed his contract he knew what was expected of him and this team this year and he knew full well the stated strategy of the franchise.  Nolan wasn't forced to sign the contract and it wasn't like he was in the middle of a long term contract and the franchise changed strategies.  Nolan took the money and then decided to do what HE wanted, what HE believed was best for HIMSELF, not the team and certainly not the franchise.  If that isn't insubordination, I don't know what is.

All I ask of Mr. Murray is to regrow some balls and fire him.

As for the NHL and what they think F**K them, I don't care.

I want this team to succeed.

  18. So you've chosen a crusade where the rules are he gets no credit for scouting players old enough to be established, but no credit for players too young to judge. Got it.

I think there is reason to be concerned with the two mid-2nd round picks and there is no proof he was the specific person that selected or convinced Bryan Murray to select the players you mention.

If Bryan Murray comes out and says, if it wasn't for Tim Murray, we would never have selected XXX, then fine.

In meantime, we know Tim Murray selected those players in round 2 last year.

We know he made the trades he made and took no action with Nolan when Nolan decided to go on a vendetta to finish 29th.

I will judge on what I know

  19. Have you seen Zibanejad, Hoffman, Stone play this year? How about Karlsson?

And the jury is still out on whether Tim can build a winning team obviously. But I'm not worried about his scouting side. His name is also tied to Perry and Getzlaf picked in one round.

Those are good players, but wasn't Bryan Murray GM, not Tim ?

Do you think Tim Murray deserves credit for those selections and not his uncle ?
