  1. This is going to be a stressful few months. As I've said many times, I think we'll be fine with or without McDavid or Eichel, but obviously I want to finish 30th to ensure at least one of them. The possibility of getting a player of their caliber is too attractive for me and we're in a perfect position to do just that. We just need to outlast the Coyotes and Oilers. I think, unless the Canes start selling the Staals, it will be a 3-horse race. Buckle up, these next few months could very well have an enormous effect on the next decade of our franchise.
  2. While we took care of our games, it wasn't the greatest weekend for us in the CHL. This week is another crucial one for the top 3 teams: The Sabres play Detroit, Minnesota, and Philadelphia. We will be well rested with the Hasek ceremony also taking place on Tuesday. Jimmy Howard was injured over the weekend so they will be starting one of their backups. Our talent level is still so far inferior right now, especially with our injuries, so hopefully we can get a win. Minnesota's goal-tending has been atrocious, but they desperately need some losses. As for Philadelphia, they're a mess right now too. Hopefully they can score just enough to lose to us this week.
  3. Yes, not sure what you mean by this.
  4. *sigh* there goes Mike Harrington on another rant where he asks players about losing on purpose, despite many people repeatedly telling Mike that it's never been about the players losing on purpose. Of course they never will, they're players.
  5. Agreed. Halfway through the season, and we are 4 points out of 30th even with that surge in Nov/Dec. I think these next few months will drop us to where we belong, unless other teams start to sell off in a huge way. I wouldn't be opposed to dealing Enroth though.
  6. By the way, ISS released their latest rankings and I think it's great news for the Sabres. Obviously I am hoping that we beat out Edmonton and Carolina to finish 30th and get McEichel, but in case we are all disappointed and we have the 3rd pick, a forward has now eclipsed Hanifin, at least for ISS: (Lawson Crouse) http://www.isshockey.com/iss-top-30/
  7. Not a perfect night for the Sabres, but still pretty good. We didn't gain ground on Edmonton or Carolina, but we didn't lose ground either. Plus, Colorado, Columbus, Philly, NJ, and Ottawa continued to gain points, which is creating separation.
  8. For those with ESPN Insider (I'm not a subscriber): http://insider.espn.go.com/nhl/story/_/id/12127351/grading-every-team-based-prospects-world-junior-championship-nhl?ex_cid=InsiderTwitter_Pronman_TeamGradesWJCProspects
  9. Exactly. Mike's arguments have confused me a few times, at this point I think he's just trying to be a good troll. He proclaimed at the beginning of the season that you are a terrible fan if you root for tanking. Then, he complained that even if we got McDavid, who would be put around him? When the Sabres went on the little streak there, he started saying that we actually have enough talent to root for. Now that we're struggling again, he said that his original prediction was that we would finish 29th, but that it's different than tanking. I don't understand how he doesn't comprehend the mindset. OK, I agree, we will finish between 28-30. The way our roster is constructed is terrible. So much so, that at best, we have a minuscule chance of a playoff birth. Therefore, I'd rather finish 30th than 24th because this draft has players that are considered generational. In a normal year, tanking is beneficial (who doesn't want Taylor Hall?), but in a year like this, we times it just right! Wait, now Bucky has attacked the status of McDavid and Eichel as generational. Despite every scout and every NHL talent evaluator saying the same thing. Could they fail to live up to the hype? Sure, anyone could. But I rather want to take a chance on one of them, who have been universally praised, then the 7th ranked guy.
  10. What a great weekend for the CHL and the Sabres. On another note, McDavid surpassed Crosby's totals last night for an U18 in the World Junior Tournament and tied Mario Lemieux - the race is on! Even though no CHL teams are in action, I'm rooting hard for Winnipeg. St. Louis has the 3rd spot in the Central division right now with Winnipeg right on their tail. Winnipeg catching them would be excellent for our other draft pick.
  11. Good night in the CHL and for the Sabres. We have a road trip ahead of us so hopefully we can keep it going. Edmonton is certainly in it for the long haul. Trading Perron today for a 1st was more evidence of that. Also, in the shootout with Colorado, they put Derek Roy out first!?
  12. Mike Harrington is on another anti-tank tear this morning. 8 points out by the way. Great job Edmonton!
  13. Of course Kaleta would speak against the tank, all players would. The anti-tank members of the media continue to ask players their opinions on building teams and the tank (including Crosby, Doughty, etc...) - what do you think players are going to say? They seem to think these are points in favor of their position when in fact they are not. Most of the crowd that has been pro-tank this year has never suggested players would buy-in to the idea. Even if a few did, they wouldn't say so overtly. For example, I suspect that Moulson supports the idea a little bit, but he would never say so. Why else would he sign here long-term? The money is good yes, but I think he sees the future as bright for the Sabres.
  14. Great win tonight boys. We looked like we were going to lose early, but our play came back to bite us. Carolina lose tonight and Arizona is likely to lose (yikes Edmonton). Overall, a solid night in the CHL for the Sabres. Also, Colorado getting blown out, the Devils getting 1 point, and the Islanders winning. A great night. Now, about Edmonton...
  15. You think Carolina and Arizona are worse than us? I don't think that at all, perhaps if they start shipping off players, but right now, no way.
  16. We still have over 50% of the season to go, I think we can still make a run for Edmonton.
  17. Stupid Oilers. Having said that, a very good night overall except for their win. We just need to take care of business tomorrow against Colorado.
  18. Indeed - an excellent night for the Sabres in the CHL!
  19. Shaping to be a pretty decent night for the Sabres in the CHL
  20. Even with this current streak, out current point projection is about 70, which would have given us the 4th overall pick last year. I still have hope, though it is admittedly getting more difficult and frustrating everyday. We need to stop playing backup goalies too.
  21. We've fallen on hard times as of late. We can start another surge tonight against Ottawa and continue tomorrow at Winnipeg.
  22. In other news, Mike Harrington is now referring to the pro-tank crowd as a radical fringe. He has been the most vehement member of the media against it and he continues to troll hard...
  23. Here is why I have been pro-tank and remain pro-tank: I think we can all agree that winning a Stanley Cup (okay, multiple Stanley Cups), is the goal for each of us fans for the Sabres. If that’s not your goal, I can’t help you. When evaluating the data about how teams are built, how they remain successful, and how they are capable of winning multiple Cups as well as being competitive year-after-year, I support the argument that enduring a couple rough seasons to obtain elite players will give us the best chance to do all of the above. It is all about probabilities for me. Of course there is talent everywhere in the draft - sometimes teams get lucky (Tom Brady and the Patriots in the 6th round). But the top of the NHL draft in particular consistently produces star-caliber players. I think it can be argued that tanking can turn a team around quickly in a normal year, but it’s much more difficult to sell than one with elite prospects. That’s why I think the Sabres picked a great time to rebuild - the 2015 draft is being hailed as one of the best in recent memory, with McDavid and Eichel as the two star prizes. “Talents that can turn a franchise around” is constantly what I hear from all parts of the scouting world. Could everybody be wrong and could they bust? It’s possible, but the likelihood isn’t great. I love the Sabres and want to see them success long-term - I want to see them in the playoffs year-after-year. That’s why I don’t want to see the team this year (which doesn’t boast many players that will likely be here long-term) fight to 20th place. Yes, we could still turn it around with the amount of prospects in the system, but the probability is much higher if we can score McDavid or Eichel. I want my favorite team to have one of the league’s stars for once. I will reference football one more time. I’m pretty confident that Colts fans are happy that they lost all of those games the season Manning got injured so that they could draft Luck. They will be competitive for the next decade now with him leading their team. I want that type of player in Buffalo, and for once we have a legitimate shot of landing one of these guys. Believe me, I hate losing as much as any of you do. That’s why I want to win long-term - and the best way to do that, in my opinion, is to endure this last year of suffering to obtain the piece that will put us in a position to succeed more quickly than the alternative.
