  1. I just want to see the team get better to the point it is a perennial contender.

In a perfect world, the Garden Gloves era was the nadir for the team, and Darcy's firing the start of a long, slow climb back to respectability.

The goal for this season was not McDavid or bust. It was to install a foundation of hard work and team play, to see improvement from our young players and to add more young talent to the core. Ideally, that meant 65 points and DFL for us, and a lottery win by the Islanders.

But you can't put all your chips on the tank. The lottery and the ineptitude of other teams are outside our control. And deliberately creating a culture of losing puts the young assets we already have at risk.

Picking 4th, 21st and 28th doesn't mean groundhog day. It was always about Murray acquiring and developing assets into good players. We will add more good players. Then we will have to develop them or move them for better players. That's how contenders are built. Finishing last this year doesn't guarantee us future Stanley Cups. Finishing 24th doesn't doom us to perpetual mediocrity.

When push comes to shove, we are a bad team with a better chance than most at McEichel, but even if we try to finish last, that chance is still no guarantee of team success moving forward.

To me, this season could have gone a couple ways, and it still can:

We suck as bad as last year, create all kinds of doubt about our leadership and young players, but get McEichel.

Or we improve because the Myers and the Girgensons and Ristos start to emerge in the better culture the Nolans and Giontas and Gorges help create.

Either way, we are better off than last year.

If I tried extremely hard, I could not have stated my feelings about this season any better than you did.

Winning is brought about as much by attitude and a work ethic as it is by talent. I hope that the young players on this team learn that this season and carry that lesson into the future. Then the players coming up behind them will no what is expected to make the team successful.

  2. Agreed! Some dreams die hard but right now, this team is not the worst in the league. They're in position, checking, playing some solid D and actually putting the puck in the net.

Most of all, they know they're improving and are onboard with the concept Nolan is trying to teach.

    Actually fun to watch!

  3. Yes.

The Harbour Club of the 200-level is, I think, specific to those who have 200-level seats. That's a nice spot, provided you can find a table to take over.

The Harbour Club at the 100 level -- which is that area where they have pre-game dining, banquets, and such -- has been re-branded and re-named (see below). The Lexus Club opens up during and throughout the game. I find it to be more of a zoo than anything. I took a young colleague to a game last season, and wound up stuck there for most of the game as he was hotly courted by a couple of cougars.

    Agreed.

Thanks Aud. I was in the Harbor Club the last time I was at a game and it is very nice but you are correct that it's not easy to get a table.

Looks like 200 level will be the way to go for us. Only a few seats available right now but hopefully, more will come up as we get closer.

    Thanks again!

    Tony.

  4.

...I think most non-hockey ladies would prefer to sit in a more commodious spot where they can get a dessert and people-watch a bit.*** I would look for the shoots-twice end, in the lower bowl but above the glass line...

LOL - sounds like you know my wife! So, should I be looking at 200 level?

You want to target the 200 level then. Basically any seat will be fine, but, obviously, if you have the chance, grab a pair that is not on the ends or in the corners. The entire 200 is the "club level", you have amenities the other two levels don't have. I can't recall if that gets you into the Harbor Club. I let my mini pack lapse before last season.

Cool. Thanks a lot Sizzle. I guess that's where I'll start and go from there.

    Tony.

  5. I would advise anywhere in the 200's so your missus (wife, gf, other?) is cozy and taken care of. I also think they're great seats. On the hub, you're likely to get a good price closer to game-time.

At worst, if you wait until the afternoon of the game, you're likely to find SOMETHING cheap. My second choice would be the loge - first two rows of the 300's, and third, the last rows of the 100's. Your missus (wife, gf, other?) will just hate the glass if she's not into it.

Is the 200 level where the club seats are? Cheap isn't really a priority 'cause I go to about 1 game every 5 years :(. So when I do go, I like it to be nice expereince for both of us. And my wife does like it cozy/comfy. Are there certain seats that gain access to the Harbor club or is that any entirely different deal?

This is the first time I've tried to use the Sabres' site for researching tickets and isit me or is it not terribly helpful. I visited stub hub and will probably go that route in the end but want to be sure as to what I'm buying.

    Thanks!!!

    Tony.

  6. I'm bringing the missus to Buffalo for a sports weekend in October and want to take in the Sabres game on Friday 10/17. She's not a big hockey fan but knows I really want to go to a game this time back home.

I know next to nothing about the FNC and want to get seats that will offer her either a very exciting time (like along the glass) or a very comfortable experience (like in the club behind the goal).

When I called tickets.com, got an automated system that told me there is no event that night. I called FNC and was told individual tix don't go on sale until right around 9/1. So it looks like I have some time but like to plan ahead.

Any advice anyone can offer on getting tix in these areas or... better ideas?

    Thanks!

    Tony.

  7. Looking for a recommendation-

I enjoy series based off a character, my favorites are:

Any series from Robert B Parker (Spenser, Stone, Randell)

The jack reacher series by lee child

The Prey series by John Sandford

And to a lesser extent the women's murder club by Patterson

Based on my preferences can anyone make a recommendation on a new series for me? Thanks in advance...

Try the Myron Bolitar series by Harlan Cobin. I liked the earlier novels better than his more recent efforts. Try to read them in order if you can.

Also, as mentioned by Gohansrage, I just started A Song of Ice and Fire series By George RR Martin. I'm 70% thru the first book (A Game of Thrones) and can't believe I've waited all of these years to pick it up. I read one of Martin's very early short stories in the 70's called the Sand Kings and it was teriffic. I just never thought I'd get into Ice and Fire as it's more fantasy but is really well written.

  8. Miller = very soft tonight when his team could least afford it. Defense not excused but to win in the playoffs, GT must be strong to superb. Miller isn't making the grade. My vote goes to Marty fo game 5.

Like chicken soup when you have a cold...

  9. I assume you mean soft in the terms of team "D", correct? Right now Forsberg is getting every bounce to go his way - that puck wasn't even headed for him but it hit someone and bounced right to him in the slot.

There are a few players that need to wake up, and make their presence felt in the 3rd period - Drury and Briere, despite his goal, are both struggling; Dumont, Connolly and Kotalik have been non-factors overall; and Max scares me every time the puck finds his stick in our end.

Absoutely, the D. But Miller seemed distracted on that shot.

Let's see what happens in the 3rd. A strong period and Sabres can go back to HSBC with a fine chance to win it in 5. Lindy sez: "need to finish" and he's right...

Speed, speed and more speed and we're home.
