  1. My family is mind-numbingly boring, so I find arguments intellectually stimulating.

I'm super into the mods/owner having a presence though, which I feel gives the board more of a family or community atmosphere.

If it was just fights, I wouldn't like it, but when the mods act like humans and referees, I understand.

Another reason to love Girgensons is that his name is Zemgus, and some parents in WNY will pay homage.

Another reason to love Zemgus is that he gives us a leg up on recruiting the cream of the Latvian crop, so long as our GM isn't a xenophobe.

  2. It's also a tough judge that accuses Russians of being immoral without knowing anything about day-to-day life there and things that may be better or worse.

Like saying Leafs Fans are reprehensible from a never-crossed-the-border perspective.

  3. Yes, nfreeman.  Thank YOU.

Just my perspective, but I felt I knew what would happen when Hoss (isn't that a cowboy name?) came into the thread, saying that horse racing is abusive and should be banned.  I thought I knew that he'd committed a blindside hit, like Cris Neil on Cris Drury in the context of a horse racing thread.  I also thought I knew which sleeping giant would eventually wake up to smash Cris Neil down with his fist.  So I took a couple cheap shots at Neil for myself, then cleared out of the way and waited for our heavyweight to arrive,  What I didn't expect was for Neil to chat up Briere's girlfriend in the meantime.  Arrive our heavyweight did.

There wasn't any question that he'd win, as usual, but it wasn't gratuitous violence.  He showed us a gentler side.  Like pulling the jersey over Neils head, to make him feel shame emotionally, rather than physical pain.  Proof indeed that our heavyweight is an animal abuser.

ps.  Don't get a big head Ghost.

  4. The slaves comment might have been dramatic, but the animal abuse is obvious and real.

    Please get on point.

The studs going to have an enviable life.

You should read The Biology of Desire.  If anything, a horses existence is parasitic.  Do you have any idea how expensive they are and generally how well treated, outside of the stories you read, WHERE PEOPLE ARE ARRESTED?

Will there ever be a time where religion becomes unnecessary? I see numbers reported about this many or that many millions of Christians in the united states. I would like to know how many actual "Christians" there are. How many people actually believe that there is a God overseeing their lives? How many actually live lives free of sin out of fear of not being allowed into heaven? How many are just going through the motions because religion is the part of a routine handed down over generations. A quick search indicates that 83% of Americans are "Christians", I would guess that number is much much lower if you count only those living Christian lives and not just everyone who fills in "Christian" on a form or a survey. The void in peoples lives that religion once filled in now being filled by the complications of an ever evolving society which cause the number of actual Christians to continue to dwindle.

I believe that organized religion has to adapt with the times.

Some comedian, maybe Gervais, says, well why didn't the good book tell us that the world isn't f'n flat?

But even for scientists, there will always be that mystical primary force that draws persons together in the form of religion.  It's the Cult of the Inexplicable.  We have codified that 2 + 2 = 4. That's not much different than saying that the summary of all human experience ever, Science + Religon + Every Oddball's Vision  = Nowhere near explaining the Universe.

Every human thought, and there are still massive gaps in knowledge.  Just imagine you could take the cream of the crop in the stream of human thought.  Still massively inefficient at explaining everyday phenomena.  Some folks just give up at that point - Atheists and religious folks both.

  6. If God created Everything, even if God Masculine inseminated Mother Earth whom bore forth the fruit that we consume through every perception each second, we'd all still be, figuratively, Sons or Daughters of God.

Some Children of God own up to it more than others.  Some deny the origins of what they see, and trace the lineage of a tree, per say, back to themselves.

  7. Yuri is what I strive to be someday

    Someday.

    Yuri now?  Work in progress.

Sabrespace has been a big part of my feeling comfortable.  Going forward, I'll do my best to keep it up.

We need to apply ourselves in someway.  I feel talented, but I'm not hooked up at all towards a writing profession.

I totally enjoy writing pro bono.

This is good practice, doing what we enjoy.

  8. I'd try to intimidate you with some of my extempore stuff, but I recently broke my right arm, which shut down my left brain.  I'm handicapped, friend,  The only thing that keeps me interested in living is reading poetry.   :(   You and I know that that last poem was 3 years old, and I can't republish BJW in the current literary climate.  I'm your fluffer.

  9. wait, never deleted any Twitter posts over that. none.

i merely apologized to Paul that my posts were not at all directed at him and in no way were meant to disrespect him. my point then -- and i know it wasn't entirely clear -- was it was my contention that 'GR was under-reporting the Bylsma news on its 20-20 updates, while hinting something was coming. whether that was the case, i'm not sure, but that was my contention rightly or wrongly.

it was never meant to throw Paul under any bus. he is a very respected colleague.

There's a lot of back-tracking here, John.  I'm just saying that you'd be full steam ahead as Jorge Wawrez here without having to do the whole PC bit.

  10. I have read many posts in this thread.  Some have been from posters with whom I share much history.  Some have been from posters with whom I share no history.  I liken it to a hobo campfire.

You may not think of yourself as a hobo.  I've got a wife and kids!  But there's a fire.  We gather around.  I don't see any wife and kids here.  Where's your precious wife and kids?  Not here.  At all.

You want to know how to fit into a hobo campfire?  Just wait for the biggest baddest hobo to get too drunk.  Then beat the out of him.  He'll wake up wondering what the happened.

You'll have a place at the hobo campfire, that way.  Be sure to apologize in a threatening way.  "Sorry Charlie for whooping your ass last night.  I was angry at the wife and kids."

  11. I had a dream while on probation.  All of SabreSpace was there.

We filled a hall at the Arena, smoking joints, and drinking beer.

A little smurf said, Let's go in, I must remind you how to cheer,

Thus we ate brownies, and got refills, then proceeded to our chairs.

In the Arena, in the center, where the spotlight shines so brightly,

Holy Mecca, where we've watched the Sabres grip their sticks so tightly,

That lovely logo that we cherish, was covered by a cage!

And in it, three men.  By now I think you know their names:

    Owner (clapping)

    GM (cheering)

    Coach (standing o)

So this is why we're here? - But it was just a dream,

And you wouldn't believe what dream-state owner tastes like!

    Ruff (gone)

    Regier (gone)

    Pegula (roasting)

  12. IT'S A STING!!!

    EVERYBODY RUN!!!

    Edit 5/31

Now that everybody's cleared out, I'm gonna make this thread my own quit smoking/sobriety thread.  Using the edit function will keep this from going to the top of the page every time that I update.  It will still be public, because with this out in the public I'll feel more accountable.  Just tossed the pack.  Today is Worldwide No Tobacco Day, by the way.

I smoked my first cigarette about 20 years ago.  I was 15.  I was riding a lift with my buddies at Holiday Valley, either Tannenbaum or Mardi Gras.  Probably Tannenbaum because there'd have been less chance of a chaperon skiing beneath and us getting caught.  It was about that time I got drunk first.  Actually, it was probably earlier, just sampling the parents liquor cabinet.

What sort of odds do I give myself?  Maybe 10% if I'm being realistic.  I should go for a walk.  I'll check in tomorrow at the latest.

  13. I agree with you, that he shouldn't have to silence himself.  He caught some for what he said about WGR up-post, and the effect was him deleting twitter posts and falling silent here.  The repercussions for not saying exactly what the Sabres want you to say, is being frozen out of the news pipeline.  They're angling to create their own channel.

  14. The motion to adjourn for a nap carries.  The ayes have it.  For those of you without hotel rooms, we do have a deal at the Hotel Lafayette, tin foil included.

For those of you showing up late to the meeting, please provide authentication and list what items you would like to be included on the agenda here.  This meeting will commence at 10am on Sunday, June 1st.

    2015

  15. I disagree. He should not have to hide.

He wouldn't be hiding, 'cause we'd know it's him by checking the username history.  He could be more honest.  He was trying to make a statement that Mark Twain could have pulled off, but Samuel Clemens would have had to personally apologize for.  With a fake name, he could protect his professional/personal reputation, and not have to pull punches.

  16. Hi John,

At first I was a little jealous of your ability to start a thread under no greater pretense than that you were going to start posting more.  Now, I've thought about it, and saw you on TV at the conference, up-close and personal with the action, and I've decided that I am glad you are here.  I hope that you are here to stay.  Here's what I would humbly advise - that you change your username to something incognito so that you can post unfettered by the ethical considerations that plague modern-day accredited journalists.  The way this board works, members would still know you as John Wawrow and would give your contributions the measure they are due, but lurkers would be in the dark as to your true identity.  That would give you the measure of freedom, and lack of accountability that the rest of us enjoy. To members who might violate your right to privacy, they would be subject to the repercussions (shunnings and bans) that creeps deserve.  Plus, you could always hide behind the curtain of implied authorship that a fake username, not your given name, would grant you.  For example, you could say that you lent out your account to a woman friend, and, like magic, whatever crazy she said or did, could never be attributed to you.  It's untraceable. Should you decide to take my advice, you have my word that this post will be deleted, but that my solemn respect for the perspective that you contribute will be even greater.  Plus, you'd save time not having to sign your initials.   ;)

  17. Items on the agenda:

    1. Perpetual revolution vs. provisional government
    2. The legitimacy of PA's claim as the "Father of this Movement"
    3. What do we do if this tank fiasco works?

Feel free to add to the list.  Remember to please state your affiliation.

I can do more damage from within the system.

(I went back and edited my original post. It's subtle but i think it means something different)

I hate to cast suspicion, but we've had some issues with security in this bunker.  It appears you have friends in high places.   I'm just doing my job.  Everything checks out.  My apologies, sir.
