  1. This is so silly. Hodgsons low is what he is now. A 40-60 point 2nd line center. Kassians low is what he is now, a bottom line grinder who has to shoot a very high shooting percentage to get to 20 points. It's not like kassian was this once a generation talent. He was a middle of the 1st round draft pick 4 years ago.

There are such things as busts and players who don't improve. Armia, grigs, Ennis, Hodgson, kassian are no guarantees to ever improve. However Hodgson is the only one of those to reach a level if consistency in the nhl which is the biggest signs of someone who is going to continue to improve.

Don't be such a homer. Kassian doesn't have a higher ceiling and floor than Hodgson. Cody obviously has a higher floor. If you want to say kassian has a higher ceiling, then fine.

  2. Let's put it this way....with Cody Hodgson's skillset, he will NEVER make the Olympics. There will always be 20 or 30 guys who are just as talented or better, bigger, or tougher.

There is a 30% chance Kassian makes an Olympic roster over time.

Hodgson is a fine player, but a commodity in NHL terms. Put Plante, Holzinger, Dawe, Satan, Turgeon, Hogue, Roy, Connolly in a blender.....and you have Hodgson.

Kassian is a roulette wheel of Neely, Gillies, Lucic, Bossy, Nilan, Corson, May.

How can anyone take you seriously when you say stuff like that. Hodgson has a 0% chance of making the olympics, kassian has a 30% chance. What does that even mean? Where do those numbers come from? What point are you trying to prove?

  3. Do you mean the Sabres made a mistake sending him to the Q?

Oh no I think it was the right choice since he isn't AHL eligible (It was either the Q or keep him in the NHL). He clearly isn't ready for the NHL (no shame in that) and he doesn't have much to prove in the QMJHL. I'm not that down on grigs like everyone else just because he failed in the NHL as a 19 year old. Once he gets a chance to play in the AHL, we will see how he does in first year there. Its a tough enough adjustment to pro hockey in n.america (ask Armia or Gauthier-leduc who dominated the Q but still hasnt adjusted to the AHL in his second year there), so its no surprise that grigs couldn't perform in the highest level of pro hockey.

  4. Man, Fucale getting rocked tonight... yes I couldn't resist.

    sarcasm?

No I really think grigorenko needs to be play in the AHL, not the Q or the NHL. I think he consistently produces at such a high level in the Q, that he needs to take the next step (AHL) to develop the game.

EDIT: I was talking about grigorenko, thought I was in the grigorenko thread...

  5. I just don't get it. I hope kassian is everything we hope he becomes and reaches his potential. A very solid two way power forward who can put up 60 points. Someone who can change the game with a hit, fight, or goal.

But why can't you see what Hodgson can become? He isn't soft and he was projected to a be a two way scoring center who is more than competent in his own zone. He has improved a ton this year skating and defensively, and he is a very consistent point getter which is a big sign there is more to come. This is someone who can carry a line or a team when he gets hot

It's so annoying you comparing kassians potential to what you think Cody Hodgson is. This is someone who was a top three prospect in 2010 who is devoting very nicely

  6. Kassian is a year younger and has a game built on strength, which takes longer to develop than skill...but just happens to have a similar goal output playing 80% of the ice time as Hodgson.

    Nope.

I had this long post typed up and realized there is no arguing with you. Kassian lack of offensive output at this point of his career is not a great sign. He only has a whopping 16 points this year because his shooting percent is near 20 percent. That isn't going to be repeated, and it creates false impressions. See drew stafford in 2010 (even that abnormal year he had a lower shooting percentage than kassian has this year).

Hodgson on the other hand is producing points. And I don't know if you knew this, but hodgson was always viewed as a much higher prospect than kassian, and isn't a pure goal scorer. He is actually a two-way forward who is still developing that part of his game. Unlike kassian, his progress is going great and he has given us no concerns to be worried. Kassian however, hasn't shown an ounce of offensive upside. When educated hockey fans like ourselves look at this team, you should realize that we lack scoring talent. A person like cody in the system is exactly what we need and want more of

  7. And since we aren't looking at these players as young decoupling players, what of kassian? What role does a player who is on pace for 200 pim, 30 points, and a -10 rating year get? The best part of it? Kassian is shooting an abnormally high shooting percentage this year, meaning it's not a sustainable pace and not something that will be repeated.

    4th line checker? Healthy scratch?

  8. One of my co-workers also works for the Sabres....he was told at the game last night by another Sabres employee that there will be a Press Conference today. Supposedly Miller related. Quite a few people were talking about this...... Can anyone confirm this? Chz?

can't find even a whisper about it anywhere online

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

    F5

    F5

    F5

  9.

    That's just not true.

Hodgson had a nice game last night and produced some offense. Good for him and the Sabres, lets not pretend it happens often because it's just not true.

Haha I'm just messing with you and PA. I do think I could update it more as one player gets goals and assists at a much higher rate than the other (it's really not even close) but I'm not going to bump it anymore :)

  10. How many of you Miller fanboys think he is a HOFer? I mean, only the "elite" make it there, right? If he is truly elite he should be a slam dunk HOFer, right? I don't see it but that is my opinion.

Only rectangles are squares. So if he is a rectangle he has to be a square, right?

Only people with two legs are nhl goalies. So if someone has two legs, they have to be an nhl goalie, right?

Only enroth gives up 4+goals a night. So if someone gives up 4+ goals, they have to be an enroth, right?

  11. Okay-other than his junior and AHL numbers, which are pretty impressive, what do we know about Toffoli?

He is the kings top prospect, and he is a scoring right-handed RW. He is a true scorer with high hockey IQ and plays hard, but is still developing the physical side of his game. The biggest thing is that he has produced at all levels of the game and is seen as a top 25 overall prospect in the league. I personally think it would cost moulson+ to acquire him.

  12. That is exactly what I mean. There is only a few goalies who are upper tier, whereas most are more average than not. Numbers would have it as RM is more average than not, therefor not overly difficult to replace. Thanks for making my point.

I think you should re-read my post. Thats not what i said

  13. I don't think it is going to be as difficult as you think.

Don't confuse consistency with being great. In RM case he has been consistently average and it is not difficult to replace average.

Even if you believe that (no arguing with those points if you seriously believe that), it actually is hard to find a goaltender who is consistently at least average.......its why there are a lot of teams that have goalie issues....Go make a list of goalies over the past 5 years who occasionally get into the top 10 of stats but never drop below average.

Lol, grizzly adams did have a beard.
