Won’t open for me. Coles notes ?

    Dear Buffalo,

I am going to tell you a bit about our group. But first, I want to talk about Ryan Miller.

I knew about him before this month, of course. I knew he was loved here in Buffalo, so much so that the team was retiring his number. We were even able to meet him when we were in Vancouver earlier this season. You could tell then that he was a good person.

I thought I understood his place here. But I didn't really - not until two weeks ago.

The connection he shares with the people in this city is something you have to feel to understand. We were all in awe watching his ceremony from the bench, seeing the mutual love shared between him and the crowd. It was RJ Night all over again.

Now when I see Ryan Miller, I am star-struck.

We spent time after the game talking to Ryan and the other alumni who were there that night. They spoke about how it felt like there was nothing separating the ice from the stands during their playoff runs. The players and the fans were one, all working toward the same goal.

I speak for myself and my teammates when I say this: Buffalo, we are starting to feel it.

It's hard to describe what it feels like when KeyBank Center is full. I get chills thinking about the roar of the crowd every time we have a scoring chance. Or a big hit. Or a successful penalty kill. Honestly, the whole night feels like a power play.

It's like we are 19,090 strong - 20 of us in uniform, the rest of us in the stands. Together we are going to break the other team mentally. That's what it feels like.

  2. Good defensemen can cover for an average goalie and the team wins.  A good goalie can cover for average defensemen and the team wins.  Sabres are in a situation where they do not have enough good defensemen or good goalies.  Sabres should focus on getting multiple goalies into the farm system and develop them.  We have had guys in the past who showed promise on the way up but did not pan out in the NHL.  Keep at it and hope that we find a diamond in the rough.

I think it's time. We have an exorbitant amount of prospects, players and 5'10 wingers who are all the same.

I get the long term approach, but how many picks do you really need to acquire? Tim Murray did it backwards he traded everything like a madman which was highly entertaining but in the end, he was a crazy man. I give him credit for trying to win RIGHT NOW but he had to go. Still not sure why he traded Neuvirth. But to make no trades at all, and to only trade for picks and prospects is clearly not working.

I don't dislike Granato or Adams. A full and complete rebuild is the right idea, which is what they're doing. Hope is great, and apart of hockey, but you can't sell hope forever.

It's clear we need something to shake this roster up a bit, nothing insane, but something. I would take insane though. Nothing would make me happier than to acquire a Shane Doan type. So let's hear your best trade ideas, heck even the somewhat crazy ones. A trade would get this place AMPED and rightfully so.

I would trade two firsts Mittlestadt and Jokiharu for Bo Horvat and if they wanted a bit more, do it

    MAKE A TRADE ADAMS

Pushing the panic button when it seems management knew there would be growing pains.  Make a trade and still not make the playoffs?  Lose talented youth for a few wins.  Bad long term thinking.

  4. I was going to wait to game 20 to assess the Sabres.  This game is perfect.  This team has bad special teams.  PP is anemic and PK is a mess.  Team defense is weak.  Goal tending uneven.   Scoring is a struggle.  This stat shows it all 38 goals against and 19 goals for in this 8 game losing streak. The losing streak has ended any hopes for the play offs.  I expect management to concentrate on developing the guys they have and continue the building through the youth movement.  Most of hockey success is the mental game.  These young guys are all over the map in their play.  Granato has his work cut out for him.
