Can you imagine where the Sabres would be without that injury?
Maybe 3 points out of not being in last place instead of 6 points out of not being in last place?

With this news, Poltapov will now not be able to play for the Sabres organization until at least the 2027-28 campaign.

Interesting seeing how we have 2 number 1 picks (RD, OP), a 4th pick (BB) and the 32nd pick (MT) making up 4 out of the 6 on the ice! I'd say we are young and flush with talent with no solid vets to back them up and show them how to play night in and night out.
By MT I assume you mean MS - of those 4 guys 3 are "offensive" defenseman, with Dahlin the only one of the 3 who might be considered sound defensively. Power has been a disaster in his own zone, and Byram has been up and down (though the offense seems to mostly make up for it.) But when we are defending a lead, this team isn't generally looking to generate offense and our strength on D becomes a weakness.

Lack of defensive talent.
I do think there's something to the fact that our top line defensemen aren't strong defensively.

Please no. Anton Wahlberg is younger than Benson. If there's one guy other than Helenius at forward we need to develop proper, it's Wahlberg. Let him stay in Rochester after a nice WJC.
I definitely don't want Wahlberg here long term, but I don't think it's necessarily a bad idea to give him a few games here if he's earned it (and to remind him that the WJC and NHL are entirely different levels of competition and he needs to keep working his ass off.)
I'm also fine with Murray or Kozak being the call up.

Helenius will be eligible and should be at the 2026WJC too.
He's never going to be a flashy guy but he's going to be a good 2way player in the NHL in 4 years.
Hopefully we don't mess that up by trying to have him here in 1 or 2.

Zucker of course having a great game, but Thompson also showing his worth stealing that puck and making it happen

It feels like I am regularly seeing Avs players get physically beat / knocked off the puck or on their ass, and I like it.

this game is nuts

It's better to be lucky than good (but I'd prefer that we be lucky AND good)

hahaha
we should have had 2 penalties called on us on that whistle -
I will never understand what constitutes goalie interference in this league

Honestly, at least Vontae Davis had the wherewithal to leave the playing surface when he decided to quit.
