  1. I wonder the same about how long Devine has been calling the shots.

But it's also irrelevant if you're picking first overall. Unless there's a huge debate, that's an easy pick. This year the obvious pick seems to be Reinhart (for us, Ekblad for some others). Next year will be McDavid.

I was referring more or less to the second round draft picks that were being talked about, but yes in that regard if you're going first you are right, it should be an easy pick, generally speaking.

  2. I'm not sure that any of what you've said justifies this statement. Adam being a good AHL player is irrelevant. While the AHL is important for development, you're not drafting for it. We have no idea what McCabe will be (even though I'm extremely high on him). He has been terrible at drafting in general.

Luckily for us this entire argument of Darcy being good or bad at drafting is irrelevant, as its been stated several times now Divine is the one calling the shots in that department.

My only question is how far does that go back? He's been the director of scouting for some time but i feel like this was a development that came when Pegula expanded the scouting department a few years back. I like our recent picks, much more than perrsonn and zagrapan.

  3. No I would not trade Ristolainen to move up to 4/5th in this draft. It is important to snag 2 high caliber forwards however the Sabres would not move Risto and part of the reason I want us to go after 2 forwards is because of the promising young defenders in the system which inlcude Pysyk, Risto, Zadorov and hopefully Jake McCabe.

I'm in this boat as well. In my opinion darcy and friends DO have some vision. That's why we have so many D men. traditionally they take longer to develop. But for the sake of the argument, i think edmonton would certainly like an opportunnity at a player like rasmus after a year in the NHL in this scenario. it could land you that second elite scorer, so the question becomes do you want an incredibly solid Defense or a more extensive / deep / dynamic top 6?

In my opinion we already have pieces in place to top out a top six if we go through the next couple seasons near the bottom and draft intelligently. Armia, Grigorenko, Hodgson, Foligno, Reinhart? Mcdavid? if everything falls in place who knows, we could be sitting pretty, but that doesnt leave a whole lot of room for error. it all comes down to what you want the team to look like.

  4. I don't know LGR. Just because a trade doesn't take place does not mean it was not explored. I would have to think a GM and or anyone in management is looking at all scenarios and not just crossing their arms and taking the 'safe' pick. In one breath you're saying they have been taking one safe pick and one high risk/reward and then you are saying what, they're not making enough risk/reward moves? As you said, they went with the risky pick of Grigs and then had the balls/vision whatever you want to call it and moved up to take their other guy; Girgs. As for this past draft, I think the scouting staff and Devine in particular really wanted Risto as their guy. I (and you and most ppl) wanted them to make that Sekera trade and pick up Lindholm but obviously Risto was who they wanted and thought he'd be there at 8 thus not wasting assets.

As for Dal Colle, as badly as I want him on this team, it's going to take a heck of a lot to move up from 17 or 18 to 4 or 5 (where he'll go) and I doubt a second rounder will be nearly enough to move you up that far in the first. A team like Edmonton who wants a D may slide a few spots if there are obvious forward picks at say pick 4 or 5 but they're not going to move down to 17. Say we have the #5 pick this draft and there are two D prospects sitting in the next projected spots, would you take a second rounder and ahl guy to move down to 17 or 18?

So running with the hypothetical scenario, EDM needs D, and we have it in spades, do you keep your late first and offer up ristolainen for that pick and see where it gets you? Is snagging two high caliber forwards that important THIS YEAR?

  5. (Hockey Prospectus) Top 10 Sabres Propects 2013: http://www.hockeypro...?articleid=1563

    Buffalo Sabres Top 10 Prospects

    1. Mikhail Grigorenko, Center

    2. Rasmus Ristolainen, Defense

    3. Nikita Zadorov, Defense

    4. Joel Armia, Right Wing

    5. Zemgus Girgensons, Center

    6. J.T. Compher, Center

    7. Mark Pysyk, Defense

    8. Johan Larsson, Center

    9. Jake McCabe, Defense

    10. Brayden McNabb, Defense

    Organizational Ranking: 3rd

    System Overview

The Sabres boast an elite farm system, anchored mainly by their past two draft classes. Grigorenko is a star prospect, and Buffalo's top five or six prospects are extremely strong. The system's depth is slightly above average, and their pipeline has a lot of players who are close to NHL-ready, which the struggling Sabres sorely need.

If i remember correctly, at the time of the trade, Larrson was minnies 3rd ranked prospect. He's slated at 8 here? is that saying more about a lack of development on his part or are we really that much better off than them in the prospect department?

  6. As sort of an aside i can't see YouTube videos on my new android phone... strange.

You ever had a droid before this? My last phone was an HTC Evo, I've since moved onto the IOS bandwagon, but i never had any issues viewing youtube videos here on the old phone...

The nice thing about the android software is that there are a ton of forums dealing with pretty much any question you can think of, when in doubt, google it and you should be able to find your answer

  7. One thing that continues to get lost in this discussion is that Hodgson represents more of the same while Kassian represented a departure from the soft skilled forwards Regier is known for.

I don't really think Hodgson is "more of the same" he seems to be relatively strong on the puck. Kassian is certainly farther from that baseline than Cody but i wouldn't put Cody in the same category as i would say, Derek Roy or Tim Connoly.

  8. In my opinion Hodgsons biggest problem is trying to force passes that just aren't there. We saw it on his pass to skinner last week, countless times on the power play after they gain the zone, and i saw it a helluva lot in Rochester during the lockout. Dudes got the talent, just needs to make the smarter pass instead of taking the one with a 10% chance of success.

  9. My house back in Buffalo got looted over winter break, and to make matters more interesting my landlord suppossedly "knew" about a broken window and damaged interior doors a few days after myself and roomates moved out. However, he didn't feel the need to inform us whatsoever, rather he just let his handymen do repairs. What's more, after i discovered the looting had occured when i went to check on things january first, he made no mention of the suppossed broken window when i was talking about contacting police. Today he finally mentions it. Somethings not right here.

  10. Make sure u rinse those out dude. Fruit flies.

We're only keeping the cardboard on the wall, we're keeping individual bottles of craft beers and such in another spot in the living room along with our fancy looking liquor bottles on the fireplace. Every bottle we have has been thoroughly rinsed and has a cap

  11. Figured this would be a good place to put this.

So its the start of my Junior year at UB and a few friends and i are renting a house, all in all there are 5 of us here and every weekend we go through a substantial amount of beer. There was a very empty looking wall in the living room that led one of my roomates to inspiration.

The Beerlin Wall. Thats right, the Beerlin Wall. We are now forcing ourselves to never buy repeats of anything that come in quantities of 18, 24, 28, or 30 and are putting the faces of each brand on the wall. It's turning into quite the collage and I'm looking forward to its completion.

  12. Would anyone be willing to be rocketed to Mars even if it meant it was a one way trip? To be the first person to land on another planet would be monstrously historic. i think most people would do it.

Thats a pretty solid question. Idk if i'd say most people would do it though. If i could come back? Definitely. But the whole one way things adds a huge dimension to that question IMO
