  1. (although I think Kalinin has looked good tonight)

Kalinin has looked like azz lately. He can't handle the puck, misplays it more than he makes the right play. He looks nervous and tentative.

Yea, and I think the officiating has been piss poor for the 2nd game in a row...not that I ever think its particually great, but its been especially bad the last 2 games

    1. Briere WAS tripped and no call in the third.

    2. Boulton knocked McKee down from behind, no call. Then he cross checked McKee from behind into the boards, no call.

    3. Roy was flattened from behind when digging at Lehtonen, no call.

    4. Afinogenov hooked leaving the defensive zone, no call.

    5. Tallinder tripped and then flattened, leading to a Thrashers goal, no call.

    Piss-poor officiating tonight.

    Stupid penalties by the Sabres:

Vanek slash about 5 seconds into a power play and checking Mellanby from behind starting a melee. Thomas - you don't need to be doing that stuff. You can play hard and be mad at your coach for benching you without taking stupid penalties.

Biron slash on Holik after Holik flattened Kotalik. Stupid stupid stupid. The hit was clean. The slash was stupid.

I'd like to know how Peters got 4 minutes and Mellanby, who slashed him, got nothing.

Modry intentionally played the puck while heading to the bench with his replacement on the ice already. He kicked it away from Dumont to the center of the ice with his right skate. Should've been a penalty. Brutal.

I won't even mention the awful linesman calls I've been noticing lately. Lot's of offsides are getting screwed up.

It seems as though that crew had it in for the Sabres last night. Not saying that they actually DID have it in for them, but that's the perception.

  2. Who writes this crap?

    Quote

Carolina will return from the Olympic break on March 1 against Boston, while Buffalo will next play on March 3 against Toronto.

    Unquote

Buffalo next plays on March 1st against Atlanta.

If find this an intersting tidbit:

..It was the Sabres fourth overtime game in their last five contests.

They've done pretty well considering how much hockey they've played.

It's gonna be grueling down the stretch, but it will be grueling for everyone.

  3. Again, I think that's why it was smart to play Miller. You see what he has in that situation. You can look at his performance either way. He played very well in regulation time and was incredible in the overtime... but... he allowed six goals in the game. The results should help Lindy craft a plan during the break for goaltender rotation.

He allowed 6 goals? So was the score 6-3? He allowed 3 goals, and stopped 3 of 6 clear breakaways, 3 of 7 if you count the one near the end of the game.

Lindy will never have a plan for the goalies.

The shootout shows where not having Briere and Conolly really hurts. Those two are amazing on breakaways. If we had them instead of Pominville and Dumont shooting, I think we'd have won the game.

  4. That sucks. I feel horrible for Jochen. He missed that perfect pass from Vanek and because of it got hurt. If he scores he doesn't turn his leg or body that way.

Looking at the pass from the top-view camera, the puck hit Huet's stick knob and deflected. That's why he missed it.

He's lucky it's only a mild sprain. He could've done much worse. Maybe Briere comes back now to fill in.

Sabres played crappy tonight. Every player made bad passes, and whiffed on several others. Just out of sync, I guess.

  5. -I've said it all year and last night was a perfect example.  You don't want Campbell on the blueline come playoff time.  He was directly responsible for both goals.  First one has was dogging it on the backcheck after an ill advised pinch.  Second one, we has just caught napping as Kovolev got behind him.  Dress him as a 7th defenseman for the PP, but do not use him in the regular rotation come playoff time.

-Anybody else feel Tallinder is quietly becoming the Sabres best overall defenseman?

I agree that Campbell didn't skate his hardest on the backcheck on the first goal. The pinch was NOT ill advised, as they were on the power play. They showed an endzone view of the play and he was going to keep the puck in the zone with his skate, and Higgins deflected it ever so slightly just before it would've contacted Campbell's skate. Campbell did dog it on the backcheck, however, and I'm sure Lindy will chew his ass for it.

Tallinder is playing well, but he still scares me. I don't have complete confidence in him yet.

  6. Cool that it's just the last 3 seasons, right? We'll forget about the 5 shutouts in 40 games. Oh, but that was more than 3 seasons ago. He IS down too early and too often, you're right there; I disagree on you assessment of his puckhandling, but I'll recognize that he gives up rebounds that are way too tasty to opposing forwards.

He is not the goalie that most people thought/think/will think. My point, which I note was not directed towards you, is that many would be irritated that Biron let in 4, but if Miller lets in the same 4, there's no problem.

There's only one goal that went in tonight that Miller had any chance on, and that was a deflection on a rush (the shorthanded one).

    He played spectacularly tonight.

I'm not down on Biron, but I feel a whole lot better when Miller starts, and I'll bet everyone else does, too.

That call on Grier was Horseshiat, but so was the tripping call on Steen when Vanek tripped over his own feet.

Vanek is coming on, boys. He's controlling play a bit more, and he's crafty with the puck. Good to see!

    Pominville is really impressive, too.

    The future is bright!

  7. I fear the worst for Connolly. I've torn both ACL's and I was able to walk on both of them, although they were both unstable. I watched it in slow motion on my Tivo and his knee whipped (hyperextended). If it went too far (can't tell), it could easily be a torn ACL. I certainly hope not. He was really flying when he got hit. I never realized he was that fast. It's a darn shame. Someone should clean Kasparaitis' clock. Grier was trying to, but the puxxy wouldn't go. Typical.

  8. Ottawa Scores - Lydman couldn't get it out...

He couldn't get it out because the Senator next to him chopped his stick in half. Should've been a penalty. Not saying Lydman has shown me anything thus far, but not getting that puck out on the 2nd try was a result of his sticking being snapped in two by a slash. You could see Campbell coming over to the ref on the play and yelling about it, and then Briere talking to McCreary at the following face-off about it.

I saw a lot more hooking NOT getting called tonight than I saw in the first two games. I fear that the new rules are going to go away and clutching and grabbing will return. I hope I'm wrong.
