  1. No, it's not a minor point. it's actually why last night was an awful hour of television.

This is the type of stuff that drove me away from the show in the first couple seasons. Nothing these people do makes sense in the universe that they live in.

    - Beth (the pretty blonde girl -- is that her name?) thinks she hears a zombie coming. Instead of moving to the open space right in front of her (i.e. the road), she stands with her back turned to the woods behind her and stops looking around. She turns her back on the only direction a zombie could surprise her.

    - General complain but similar to the Beth thing -- none of the characters really look around much when they're walking. If you're living in a world filled with ghouls for miles in all directions, you'd sorta have your head on a swivel, right? You'd be looking around constantly. No one is ever worried about zombies except for when they're going into a new building -- and even then there's always a no-name character willing to turn his back to a doorway with a zombie ready to pop out. I'm not a professional actor, but if I was I'd concentrate more on acting like I was worried about the terrifying world I live in versus just trying to look hot in a tank top while I strut around. (Or maybe just trying to look cool sells more action figures.)

    - Glen is surrounded by zombies at the prison. He dons prison riot gear and pretty much just pushes his way through four dozen of them and then strolls out. How the F did these things take over the world again? Like the entire United States Military couldn't figure out the "wear body armor and push" strategy?

    - Based on the Glen thing, why is anyone still going sleeveless in this show? Throw a leather jacket on so that they can't bite you.

It's hard to get into this show when nothing makes sense and the main characters are only marginally smarter than the zombies.

The bit with the guy trying to escape with two little girls and a baby was really good/tense but they couldn't really come up with a resolution beyond "Carol saved everyone off-screen."

Rick shoulda taken the gang to B-lo,...walkers can't walk when it's freezing out.

  2. NBC has the beautiful and talented Rebecca Lowe on loan for these Olympic games from NBCSN's Premier League coverage and all I see are the two a$$clowns Bob (pink eyes) Costas and Lester Holt. Listening to these two just about makes it unwatchable, and their hockey announcer, Doc Emrick has such an annoying voice.

  3.

Chess is not a sport, either.

Nor is ballet, although it is as physically and mentally demanding as figure skating. Same goes for brain surgery or playing the double bass.

Figure skating is an art form.

I have no problem with certain art forms being in the olympics.

Don't tear your hair out over here, too!

By that standard, Olympic diving could be considered an art form and not a sport: all competitors dive from the same height, are on the board or platform solitarily, without a clock, and receive scores from judges based on execution and body position at entry to the water. There are technical aspects, but divers are largely judged on aesthetics.
  4. I get really twitchy when people say figure skating shouldn't be in the Olympics. That ###### is hard. You have to have grace and stamina and devote pretty much your whole life to it. I've known several skaters who've made it to Nationals and Olympics. My mother was a skater, she knew Scott Hamilton. I've dabbled in it myself. Ice dancing.... well, you may have a point there. Still difficult, the footwork is a pain, but you're not flying through the air, spinning, and landing on one foot without twisting your ankle to hell. It's gymnastics on ice, with no padding. Try it sometime. Toepick....

The only thing I really hate about it is the costumes/judge corruption. There is a rule that a female cannot wear anything but a skirt. Probably so gentlemen can stare at their ###### and boost ratings. Several women did switch to wearing unitards and they quickly ruled it out.

To the extent that artistic interpretation is involved, figure skating may not conform to traditional sports, but you have to admit they are athletes who train and physically exert themselves in a bonafide competition. As to the ladies, the costumes embellish their grace and physique, and add to the enjoyment. I'm thankful I'm not a judge...I get to stare.
  5.

He was raised in what I call a figure skating gulag- taken from his family very young. As a little boy he was stretched so he could perform moves no other male figure skater could (like the scorpion). I loved him growing up- was always happy when he outskated Alexei Yagudin. Apparently he's become quite an arrogant dick lately, and really shouldn't be on the team. Another skater supposedly outscored him in qualification but Russia has a ###### for him, so, here he is, his last shot for gold.

Announcer for the men's cross country ski was absolutely losing his mind over the final push. Was it cross country ski? I don't know- I honestly don't know the differences between all the skiing disciplines.

Yeah, the cross country skiing announcer goes insane when the leaders get to the finish line...I like his energy!
  6. I'm thinking with Harbor Center and FNC that Buffalo could potentially become a magnet for training for Olympic figure skaters from all nations. In the TV commentary, it's been noted several times that many of these international competitors train in Michigan. Why not Buffalo?

  7. Yep..

Johh Weir... My gosh could you look any more androgynous

I'm reminded of the John Winger comment at the Army recruiters station in "Stripes"..."you mean like flaming...?" Don't get me wrong, Johnny Weir knows his business and life is a beautiful thing.

  8. Not into figure skating at all, but when I was about to change the channel an Italian skated to music by Queen. Granted, it was toned down and instrumental, but it was still cool to hear in figure skating. The Italian's ice dance is over now, so the channel has been changed.

Go USA! Women's hockey is fun to watch. Pretty impressed to be honest. Still can't wait for men's hockey to get going. Any word on who's starting for Team USA? If Miller isn't named the starter, the argument of Team USA's officials/coaches over thinking will continue. Very disappointed Bobby Ryan was left off the roster.

I saw that, that was from the soundtrack of "Highlander"...good tune!

  9. Figure skating observations: Kaetyln Osmond, the Canadian skater, sexy and sultry, came closest to twerking in her short routine, and it looked like she was wearing the nearest thing to a black thong under her outfit...just wow! That little Russian skater, Yulia, only fifteen years old, blew everyone else away in the ladies portion of the team competition. The American, Ashley Wagner is overrated, and lucky to be on the team after finishing out of the top three at the US finals in Boston. It's Sunday morning, and I'm wondering what the heck is that gold colored necklace that Johnny Weir, a commentator on NBC, is wearing around his neck?

  10. I see what you're saying. I'm just saying that baiting somebody doesn't mean they took the bait. Poor wording choice on the fly possibly, but his quotes make it clear that he isn't admitting that they'll take a tank philosophy.

I actually think both interpretations could be correct:

I didn't misquote anybody. My lead in to the quote wasn't a quote. They were baiting him into admitting that his plan is tanking. He didn't bite. The quotes are his responses.

I think your exact quote was "Basically, they baited him into admitting...", in which case, it seems to me that saying "He didn't bite" would constitute a contradiction. There's a subtle difference between "baited" and "were baiting". Where the former is a done deal, the latter may allow for some wiggle. If you were a prosecutor and you presented that statement as an evidentiary declaration, and I sat on the jury, I'd have to vote to acquit because it doesn't fit.

  11. Tim Murray seems like a great hire. I also like the fact that he seems like a no nonsense guy who will not put up with the BS from the Buffalo News guys. He has been groomed for this day his entire life.

As an aside, except for Paul Hamilton, Tim Graham, and John W, most of the guys who cover the Bills and Sabres are horrible. To think how far the quality of the Buffalo News has gone down since guys like Jim Kelley and Vic Carucci. Bucky, Sully, and Bucky/Sully protégé Harrington are horrible.

I also absolutely love the Craig Patrick hire. Great addition to the Sabres. Miracle in Buffalo.

You would have loved Dick Johnston, from the Buffalo Evening News, and Charley Barton, from the Buffalo Courier Express. Now, there were some hockey writers!

  12. I feel sadness for posters like yourself who feel myself, PA and others "rail" for the sake of "railing." You should man-up and admit that posters like PA and myself were right and have been for a long time.

Today is not a happy day. it's a day that reminds us all of the time wasted under the Regier regime. At this time it is best to leave the vast mistakes of the Regier era in the past. What happened in the Regier era stays in the Regier era.

As a fan I am looking forward to see what direction the team takes.

    Amen!
