  1. Blackhawks GM: Kane and Toews will be here "no matter what"

"I can't predict what the salary cap will be in the near future, but I can tell you that Jonathan and Patrick will be on this team," Bowman told the team's website. "Those two players put the Blackhawks back on the map. They're up in a couple years, and whatever the numbers are, we'll figure out the details. The notion that the money we're spending now will affect our ability to keep Jonathan and Kane ... it's a non-issue. They will be here no matter what."

I would love to see the day when a Buffalo GM is able to say this in regards to two players. Hopefully it's not too far off.

  2. You can't go wrong traveling along the South Carolina low country from Charleston and down into Savannah Georgia. St. Augustine Florida isn't too far away from Savannah and that's a jewel too.

Lots of history and beautiful scenery.

The ladies in Charleston are an extra added bonus.

  3. So, there are once in a lifetime waves on lake Ontario, and an experienced surfer wants to ride them. Why is it acceptable for the cops to tell him to stop?

They can't tell him to stop, but they can ask him.

Whether or not he complies is up to him, and it sounds like he decided not to put up much of an argument.

It would be different if the county had posted signs that ordered people to stay out of the water.

  4. NYC is a mess. Half a million people without power, and there are whole neighborhoods that were destroyed (fires and flooding)

Just came in from a walk around my neighborhood. So many trees all twisted and torn to hell. The front of my building got ripped off. It's sad, and we are on the high ground. Our neighbors just a few miles away are really in a bad way.

I feel lucky to have power and a dry place to stay.

  5. Checking in from Brooklyn.

Wind is picking up, misty rain is getting more steady.

During The lead-up to this storm, people seemed to be less active than the prep period for Irene, but now that it is closer, it's fair to say that people are heeding warnings. Streets are quieter than I expected them to be. It's spooky to see the train stations cordoned off and

Pizza parlors and bodegas with their doors shuttered.

Personally I have supplies all ready to go ( featuring 6 gallons of freshly brewed hard cider).

Getting ready to indulge in Boardwalk Empire from the beginning (never seen it)
