  1. Well, these are legitimate views, and there is plenty of room for reasonable people to disagree. My point was more narrow -- I think that when everyone has to pay taxes, everyone is invested in the idea of not wasting tax money (kinda like in a family, if there is an expense, everyone shares some of the burden so the kids don't think everything in life is free). In the tax system we have, almost 40% of the population doesn't pay any income taxes, so there is no incentive for them to care about holding down expenses. This inevitably results in waste.

More importantly, if the only consequence were a few dollars in wasted taxes, very few people would be concerned. The real issue is that when taxes get too high, taxpayers take their business elsewhere. This in a nutshell is why NYS and California are economic basket cases and why unemployment is and will remain at a 30-year high. So it's not just an extra $82 per year and don't sweat it -- it's the fact that your employer might decide to bail on NYS (or for that matter the USA) and you might have a heck of a time finding another good job if that happens. I'd expect this has probably happened to more than 1 person you know.

Even worse, we have a society where less than 50% of the people are paying the freight, but 100% of the people get to vote. It sets up class warfare, where the non contributing majority demands more and more from the contributing minority. Its like a parasite on a host - everything is fine until the parasites become too many or demand too much, and the host starts to die. You speak of corporate flight, which has been going on for years. Now we are seeing expatriation - people renouncing their citizenship in an effort to hide wealth. That's great for the super rich, but the upper middle class put themselves in debt getting through school, pay their bills, finally enjoy a little success, and still find themselves worse off than their parents.

The American dream is becoming a nightmare. We are becoming Europe. Do you see a better america ahead for your children? I don't.

  2. My taxes went up $82 this year. I'm not complaining. I have it pretty good, so if my taxes go to somewhere that helps other people so be it. It's all about perspective.

That's nice for you. Mine went up 5 figures. You'd complain, too.

  3. Something is happening that hasn't happened in 3 years and while I should be really psyched I can't shake this feeling of dread...

Also, today is tax day, and I have to write a big check, which is only going to get bigger in future years, when fully 46% of the country will be paying zero taxes. Ridiculous.

+1 on tax day. Big hate for our government today. I think the number of people who actually pay real taxes is far less than that. Many people pay some taxes, but get more back than they actually paid. And don't forget all the people who pay no taxes, yet still get a refund due to all the "programs".

My back is starting to hurt from all the people I am carrying.

Why do I have to pay more in taxes just because I am self employed? Why do I have to pay a penalty if my quarterly estimates were low? The gov't should be thrilled that I did better than expected and will be paying them more money. Why do we have to pay interest when we owe the gov't money, but they don't pay us money when they owe us a return (not that that ever happens to me personally, but still...).

Taxes - abolish the entire IRS and go with a national sales tax. It is progressive, because the rich spend more than the poor.

The deficit - If I live beyond my means, I can't get a loan from China or raises taxes on people, I lose my house and go broke. When did people decide that it was OK for the gov't to live beyond its means every frigging year? Whio thinks this is sustainable? Are they all brain dead in Albany and DC?

People using complaint Thursday to promote their crackpot left wing nutjob agendas.

Either no politics at all, or respectful discussion only. Whichever way you lean, promoting kiddie porn has to be considered a nutjob agenda.

  5. Tenants in SUBSIDIZED housing(Marine Drive Apartments) on PRIME WATERFRONT property have retained an attorney because they object to the placement of a parking ramp(partially for their use no less) adjacent to the apartment towers.

Attorney Joseph G. Makowski said his clients, Marine Drive residents, continued to oppose the placement of a parking ramp by their complex. He said Empire State Development Corp. prepared a supplemental environmental impact statement, as requested, but found it to be “the same bureaucratic double talk.”

Anything else we can do for you as long as you have some complaints to be addressed?

    That's why God made bulldozers.

  6. Funny you say that, but I can't ever think of a relationship where I didn't end up in the sack within the first 48 hours. With her, it hasn't even been a thought. (okay, maybe a thought but nothing that I've acted on)

There's your problem. Girls who jump in the sack in the first 48 hours are fun to hang with for a while, but they aren't exactly "take home to mother" material.

Hope this doesn't offend Chz or PA.

  7. Sorry to hear it, XC. Let me echo 11's urge to exercise. There are plenty of good sabres & hockey podcasts to listen to on the ipod while you are exercising.

Ink -- I think Dudly is right on this one.

Here's my complaint: My 9-year-old plays on a travel soccer team in a pretty competitive league. Last weekend his team played the team that is the best team in the league every season. They beat my kid's team last fall and last spring and were undefeated going into this game. So, my kid's team wins in a 3-2 thriller. My complaint is about the other team's coach. He was a complete jerk the entire time. He was yelling at his team and at the ref and refused to shake hands with our coach after the game.

The real kicker, though, is that on quite a few occasions, he would stand a couple of steps on the field of play while our team had the ball on that sideline -- i.e. he was interfering with our team's attempts to bring the ball in or out of the zone. He was intentionally affecting the play -- literally cheating in a soccer game played by a bunch of kids. Are you kidding me? What a bozo.

there's your problem. Your 9 year old was playing soccer. If s/he was playing hockey, you would be justified in challenging that coach to a fight in the corridor after the game!

  8. Pre-cana sucks.

My first complaint is a carry over from the "was batman a vegetarian" thread.

You must have a license to drive a car, cut freaking hair, and do any number of other mundane things. But have a kid that you will be responsible for for the next 21 years? That's a god given fundamental freaking right. No test of minimum competency whatsoever.

Are you a child molesting freak who has children to provide yourself your next victim? No problem. Cursed with a genetic disorder or disease that will with certainty affect the next generation? no problem. So poor and bereft of desire to improve your position that you are reliant on society to provide for your every need? no problem.

Why don't we need a license to have kids???

  9. Bump... and let the games begin.

I would like to complain about one mundane aspect of life: the burned out tail light.

I've had my car for 11 months now. It's fully warrantied, obviously, so this won't cost me a dime to fix, but seriously folks... My volkswagen gets nearly 50 mpg, and its emissions system is so good that even though it runs on diesel, it cleans the exhaust so well that it's impossible to commit suicide by running the car in a closed garage. All of this, plus bluetooth phone, sirius radio, auto windshield wipers, etc. yet, a 120 year old technology, the incandescent bulb in the tail light, burns out after 11 months? Really? Really! Whatever government lobbyist group that is mandating the use of incandescent bulbs over LEDs needs to burn a fiery death in hell caused by a short inside a 75/100/120w dimmer switch!

Get ready for years of heartbreak. I owned a frigging VW Passat. German engineering my ass. It was a pleasure to drive when everything was working right. Problem was, that was a rare occurrence. The electrical system in VW's is absolute garbage. Lights burn out. Batteries die for no reason. Fuses pop. Windows won't go down. The radio dies. Doors won't lock. Enjoy the car while it lasts. 3 years into it, I ditched the car and got soaked on trade in. Couldn't care less, was so happy to get a car that actually works the way it was supposed to.

  10. Same, you get what you pay for with them. I have always done tech support for pretty much anyone in my family that has every had a computer. I bought my first IBM machine about 4-5 years ago and have since switched everyone I possibly can over to them. I haven't received anywhere near the same amount of calls from long lost cousins anymore about their computer.

My complaint - I'm lazy and played racquetball yesterday. My legs are killing me now. Bout it.

This isn't with the spirit of the thread, but anyone considering a PC lap top who DOESN'T get an IBM lenovo thinkpad is crazy. Yes, they cost more. Yes they are big, clunky and ugly. But they are frigging bulletproof. It just works. For years on end. I use my lap top in a dock at work, and run it at home every night. I just retired it after SEVEN YEARS because it no longer has enough RAM to run modern programs, but had plenty of juice when I bought it seven years ago. I have had the new one for six months, and it is also bulletproof so far. The old one now gets used daily by the kids, and is still bulletproof after clearing the hard drive and reinstalling XP and MS office

  11. That was kind of my point (though it may not have come out that way). Neither are immune. They all keep doing stupid stuff. Less focus on the party and more on holding each individual accountable.

What a novel concept. Let's hope it gains traction.

  12. A translated version of a german video? Unless it's Hitler talking about TO, I'm not watching it.

Korab, I'm pretty sure he was banned. That was the only thing that was going to shut him up. The part about responding to the same post 5 times was just for you. Hope you liked it.

I chuckled when I read it. Wasn't sure if he was banned or he returned to whence he came, maybe the Sabres boards.

  13. I don't agree with you, so clearly you're an idiot and you know absolutely nothing. I'm going to go out of my way to point this out each time you post. In fact, I want to drive this fact home so much that I'm going to reply to your one post 5 times. You are a fool and I am much better than you.

Funny! Notice he hasn't been back. His mom must have caught him on the computer after his bedtime.
