    Niice.

Yeah that's one of the big reasons I went after this gig. Just being an illustrator does not get you stable employment, and this only happened because a friend worked there and knew I was capable of learning more stuff quickly. But if that can be my special weapon in an otherwise useful arsenal, I'll have a better shot at those real jobs.

I've been teaching myself basics, html, java, css, scss, a touch of python here and there on codecademy (I tried ruby and my brain just shut down) but it's pretty much worthless until I actually have to make a project happen. We're all Wordpress and I am virtually an infant in terms of knowing what to do there. Bootstrap, widgets, etc... noooo clue. Don't even know what I don't know. But that'll have to change!

The trouble is the people who can really teach me/walk me through the setups in place here are all leaving...

Have you looked into Coursera at all?  Lots of good stuff there at varying price ranges (mostly a monthly subscription model and you work at your own pace from what I've seen so far).  I tried Codecademy but their Python intro course has so many bugs I got frustrated with it after a while.

  2. Some good friends of mine have been going through a super-stressful period trying to simultaneously sell their home, purchase a new home, move, and get ready for a baby that is due next week.  While things were hairy for a bit with the home purchase, everything finally came together and I've been helping them move into their gorgeous new house in the mountains the past few days.  I'm definitely jealous, but I'm so happy for them that everything is working out.

And amen to what dark said.  I'm glad a friend convinced me to re-subscribe to NHL.TV this season.  ?

  3. I swear this was locked until a few minutes ago!

So back in mid-August our crappy ex-employee quit with zero notice and had managed to convince my boss that myself and the one other co-worker here were the reason she left, where the truth was likely that she used us to pay for her to get a certification that allowed her to get a higher-paying job and she quit because she's an a-hole.  Last Friday I found out that apparently she left parting comments to the division continuing to claim we were the problem, and now I have to spend 3 full days next month attending "Crucial Conversations" training.

Yesterday I found out my boss secretly posted the position that last year she wanted to promote me into.

    F this place.

In the Trailer it looks country. Is it all country ?

No, it's a pretty eclectic soundtrack with everything from country/blues/rock to ballads and pop/R&B music.  Lady Gaga is obviously the more talented singer of the two, but it blows me away that Bradley Cooper literally learned to play acoustic and electric guitar for the movie.  I'm no country fan and I really enjoyed it, so I'd say unless the main song in the trailer does nothing for you, it's worth a watch.

A Star is Born.  See it.

    Great movie. Amazing soundtrack.

Lady Gaga stole the show.  And that's taking nothing away from Bradley Cooper, who was excellent as well.  It will be interesting to see if a movie star was indeed born.

Sam Elliott, Andrew Dice Clay, and Dave Chappelle are very good in supporting roles.

Should be up for some serious hardware during award season.

Absolutely.  I saw it last Friday, and I've had the soundtrack stuck in my head ever since.

Not sure where you are at but Bershire East is a smaller quaint but good sized hill in Northen Mass that is reasonable and in its own little snow belt just south of the Vermont border, about 20 miles East of Williamstown MA.  I ski Jimney Peak a lot and will probably go to Hunter this year.  Want to try out Strattford... only 90 miles from my House in Amherst MA if snow is good.  Last year snow came in late.  Over xmas we skied Sundance in Utah, Steamboat and El Doro.  All very different and very nice, though Steamboat is for medical Dr. snobs and their spoiled kids..

Maybe, but Vail is way worse, and Steamboat is SO PRETTY.

  7. This has been one of those weeks where I've lost countless hours to fighting with either robots or electronics that don't seem to want to work, and it's driving me bonkers.

My car apparently has some kind of transmission defect that's causing it to think it's not in park and lock the key in the ignition, which is fun.  Hoping they'll agree to pay for that repair tomorrow morning.

And I've been trying to do some online courses for certifications as I work on beefing up my resume to have more options for where I want to go next, but I'm so stuck on this one class.  Was going fine initially, but the instructor shows how to do something using his machine with Unix, and doesn't explain how to find the correct file path / location settings for running elsewhere.  I've been searching all kinds of things to try and figure it out myself, and after hours of searching I can't figure it out.  It's demoralizing and makes me question why I'm bothering to try at all.  (Anyone know anything about running Python in a Windows environment???)

And the exercise routine I'd managed to get into over the summer went down the drain in Sept., so now I'm trying to get back into it again.  Always a struggle.

I keep a beer league racing ski, an all mountain ski and a park ski. I always bring 2 of them to the mountain. I'll ski all mountain til mid afternoon, then I'll go hang out in the park and do dumb stuff with the kids and park rats. I literally never know what i'll be in the mood for from one day to the next.

    Fun to have that option!

So many places, so little time (and money) my 2 home mountains now are Camelback and Montage Mountain. I'll hit up Gore and Whiteface in NY when I go home. I need to drag my dad out to Gore again for old times sake. My local ski shop does 2 bus trips to Hunter, so I'll jump on that and I'm doing Mount Washington, NH in March. Gonna try to squeeze an April Killington trip to close out the season. Wanted to do Stowe and Jay Peak, but the wife put her foot down ?

Oh well, I'm getting away with a lot.

I did Whiteface with a ski group trip years ago, but I was too inexperienced to really appreciate it. Lake Placid is a cool little town, though.

I didn't think to ask this before, but is there any reason you couldn't just transfer over the bindings from one of your existing pair of skis temporarily to the new ones when you wanted to use them? Or are they shaped or sized differently for the racing skis?

I love that there's Copper and Cooper right near each other. That makes me laugh. I have heard nothing but good things about all of those mountains. Vail is, well, Vail. I'd definitely add Aspen(all 4) to the list, just to feel like a celebrity for the day. And Telluride looks like the most awesome winter town ever. My uncle lived at the base of Breck for years and absolutely loves that mountain. I've heard good things about Silverton too.

Yeah, lots of places I have yet to visit! I want to check out Aspen and Snowmass at some point, but it gets hard to justify the cost of lift tickets after dropping so much on season passes when I can ride prepaid at other resorts. Plus Aspen is too far for a day trip, so lodging starts to add up fast. ? But they do a nice late season discounted weekend (spring fling in early April), so if the snow is better this year I might try to make it.

Yep, and the Mountain Collective pass isn't any better because it's only 2 days at each mountain. Whats your home mountain now if you don't mind me asking?

I like to ride a bunch of different places, which is part of why I have a hard time picking passes every year, lol... favorites are Copper, Arapahoe Basin, Loveland, and Keystone. I haven't ridden Breckenridge or Beaver Creek yet (the former is on my pass this coming season). Wolf Creek and Steamboat are both awesome, but too far away to be regular destinations for me. And I need to ride Crested Butte this year before Vail ruins it.

I live in the Poconos, you live in the Rockies. My passes were significantly cheaper than yours. 2 separate passes at 2 mountains, just under $400. I have 7 mountains within 45/60 minutes from my house. I'd love for them to do something like an Epic or an Ikon pass, but no such luck yet.

Oof, one of the (admittedly few) things I miss about the East coast... Vail and Alterra have turned into Coke vs Pepsi out here and are buying up everything, and one season pass (for one mountain) is rarely under $400. Much like paying for cable vs streaming, I wish I could choose to make my own pass with the mountains I like (which are a combo of ones owned by the two groups) rather than having to do all or nothing. I've easily spent $800 each of the last two seasons on ski passes. ??
