  1. I'm at work, can't see the game. What's happening? Who got scratched? Who's playing well? What are the lines tonight?

I feel like a wee child in a crowd of adults struggling to see the circus.

i've been there rabbit. we are dominating play in my mind. although the leafs just made it 2-1 and are showing some life.

pominville and vanek were the two notable scratches.

hecht, brierre, and mair are back in the lineup.

i know the board seems 50/50 with afingenov on whether he is worth keeping or not, but the more i watch the kid, the more i think we are crazy to consider getting rid of him. he may have some defensive lapses but he brings so much to the offensive game of this team.

  2. Biron is getting the start. (I do not agree with this move. If the team were playing ANY team other than the one that thumped it 2 nights ago, I would not have a problem with the move.)

Briere and Hecht are definitely in.

    Mair and Peters are probables.

It sounds like Antropov will be out with the flu.

This per WGR about 20 minutes ago.

With the addition of Briere and Hecht (and hopefully Mair), I expect to see the Sabres win tonight. I expect that regardless of who is in net, which is a major part of why I would like to see Miller between the pipes tonight. I think getting a win against the team that thumped him would do a lot to restore Ryan's confidence. Playing Devil's advocate: if Miller were to play lousy against TO again tonight, could it do any more damage to his confidence? My answer is no, not really. But could a win (in a playoff style setting - 2nd game in 2 nights in the same road building) help restore it? My answer is, while it isn't a given, it is a heck of a lot more likely.

    My 2 cents.

Also, would another loss to TO really do anything to their confidence or playoff hopes with Ottawa in town Wednesday? Probably not, and that is the worst case outcome (IMO) of playing Ryan tonight.

I don't know about you guys, and whether you played hockey or sports or not, but I always liked nothing better than playing a team that just embarassed you while it is so fresh in your mind. We don't have the most physical team, but if you can't feel like running anything with a maple leaf on it through a wall, you really need to consider your desire to play the game.

  3. At least Gaustad has had enough, but I am starting to worry about this team's heart and willingness to fight through adversity...

BTW, while I am not happy about the way Miller has played of late, tonight he hasn't had much help from anyone in front of hime - like on the 7th goal when McKee and Lydman were no better than cones on the ice - just something for the Leafs to skate around...

wow, tough one tonight boys, huh? seemed like we were on the right path. the best thing ot hang on to right now is that we struggled like this back a few years on our last great playoff run. there is no way we were as good as we were and now we are this bad. these things are just pyschological and not that it matters, but i'm still not worried about embarrassing ourselves in the playoffs.

i do still continue to believe that we were too young this year anyway so getting in the playoffs was already playing with house money and getting us invaluable experience.

who played net tonight? was milller in the whole game? excuse me, i need another tanquerray and tonic....

  4. Wow...it's like somebody replaced our Sabres with a bunch of beer league players! How can an NHL team forget how to play hockey overnight? Biron let in two dreadful goals. Okay, they are 1-7 in their last 8. When do they finally shake themselves out of this stupor?

By the way, all they had to do is get a point and they would have clinched the playoffs tonight. With Atlanta losing, the Sabres have clinched a tie.

    PTR

likewise, i don't think they played bad either. not easy to play and then jump on the plane and play the next night. not to mention no briere and that hurt. that suspension is absolute horsecrap.

this schedule is just brutal - i know every team is going through it, but that is why most teams are playing .500 hockey, except for a handful of teams.

  5. I find it amazing that an NHL team can go a whole game without a player committing an offence worth a penalty.

Apparently other than the bench minor, the Devils are a perfect group of men who never do anything worthy of a penalty.

If Buffalo ends up playing NJ in the playoffs, it is over.

As a fan of Buffalo and Vancouver I appreciate that they "try" to score lots of goals and don't just sit back and play boring boring BORING HOCKEY. NJ, Minny are both embrassments to the game.

I stopped going to these games in NJ the last NHL season. I don't know what it is about playing at this craphole hockey arena, but we just can't win here.

It's not like they haven't played well tonight. They are getting some good chances. Just one of those tight-checking playoff type hockey games. We will learn to win these and it is good to be playing games like this now.

  6. Ok, this is nuts... Roy just got smoked for the 2nd time, and no penalty this time either.

They showed Drury on the bench, looked like he was in pain from something. Don't know though....

by the way, how night and day is the comparison listening to Emrick and Resch tonight then the NESN assclowns. Yes, they are Devil fans/announcers but they acknowledge good plays and good hockey despite which team made the play

  7. i actually think the guy is very good. he's touigh to take because he's oneof those stererotypically homer hockey announcers, but i think the guy is decent.

BG - Being a "homer" is one thing, but what we heard last night was absolutely absurd. I am not able to play the internet and my options last night were to listen to NESN or turn down the volumen and I chose to turn down the volume. I just could not take it. You might be referring to his actual play-by-play which I do not think is too bad, but too often it is interuppted by obnoxious and condescending no-calls for the B's or calls against the B's.

Every home team announcer might make a comment in passing - but to add the commentary is just over the edge.

I was just going to ask any of you guys listening on NESN if they were complaining about the Sabres diving. I remember Boynton has been crying all year about the Sabres diving.

Here is what we expected from Boynton: ''You've got to go down in order to get a penalty and they do a good job of it," said defenseman Nick Boynton. ''It's funny to watch them on tape, but it's really disappointing because it really hurts us during the games. The effort was there and we deserved a much better fate. Unfortunately, we're just not getting it."

I caught most of the game and the previous games against the B's and I will admit I thought there was a couple instances it seemed like we went down easily. Not as much as the Bruins are making it out to be, but the Leetch slashing call and the cross-check on Vanek come to mind from last nights game.

  8. So are the sabres actually diving, or is NESN just using their voices to convince us subliminally that they're indeed diving?

I have not noticed them diving except against the bruins, which they do about 3000 times per game. Are they actually diving, or is perception=reality here?

    FINALLY! we win

way to work through it boys. regier is the best for letting this team stay together :)

anyone catch edwards last dig - 'the sabres knew just enough to shave the rules this year and beat the bruins in the season series 7-1'

  9. I agree on all parts. This is their game to win. all it takes is one shiot.

    apparently numminen is hurt.

ok NESN: SCOOOOOOOOOOOOOORES! BRIERE from a sweet ass move from connolly on the PP. 3-2 divers.

    nice set up timmy.

so hard to believe that the guy referred to as "tiny tim" and pretty much despised by 9 out of 10 Sabre fans since arriving (except for the Syracuse Sabre fans) means this much now to this team in '06!

  10. oy.. another close no goal call...

an its a definitive no goal based on replay... however, its up to the refs, so its going to be a goal for the bruins.

    wait, no goal officially.

my lord, these guys really hate briere...

another good reason for peters to be in the press box... he can beat down these NESN clowns.

I don't think I can add anything new regarding these NESN guys and I don't want to beat the dead horse but MY GOD! It is almost like a SNL skit. I keep waiting for Jack Edwards to break in to "live from New York it's Saturday night!"

I'm not going to bother with another slew of examples in that period.

I think the boys are playing well and should be winning. Keep plugging in the third.

  11. I doubt it . It was just of matter of time before someone started suffering from head inflation from all those W's. It's happened now in the worst way, and this is the result.

Hopefully they'll figure out that nobody on this team belongs in an all-star game, and get back to the original game plan.

I got home in time just to catch Talinder tie it, only to see us give it back up a few minutes later. On a play where the defense attempted to clear it high and off the glass (like he should) only to have it hit a partition and jump back in to the slot where the Bruins turned it in to a quick two-on-one.

Not saying that is why we lost.....but, as it has been written but so many of you, when bounces go against you, they REALLY seem to go against you.

It is time to alternate goalies and play whomever gets hot b/c Miller is not the same goalie he was.

All part of the learning curve my friends.....Hang in there all!

  12. well im done listening to this stupid game it was pointless to get fired up about it in the first place, until someone injures one of there key players its useless, wheres kasparitis when you need him?.... good night all...

well, i got 2/3 of the game tonight (fighting with my wife during the 2nd) and from what I saw it did not seem like they played that bad? it is still not a W, i realize that. once again to me, we just don't quite have the experience yet. it takes a lot to make it througha whole season wining one-goal games and getting all the breaks, and we seemed to get them earlier in the year.

the rangers just got over a 5 game losing streak, so nothing says we can not do it but, i don't knwo everyone seems to think that everything we do now is wrong, even though it is what got us here...

  13. I could be wrong, but....

I am almost happy we are going in to this game on a 3 game slide. Unlike last Saturday where the heads of some guys may have been getting a little big for the room we have gotten a good dose of reality the past week.

If this team has the heart and balls that most of us think they have they should come out flying tonight. Maybe it does not even guarantee a win, because personally I still believe this year has been a huge example of overachievement, but they should be ready to run through walls come 8pm.

(And by overachievement I also mean that this team has the potential to be so good, but it is still young and expectations should be capped. We were not supposed to be this good this quick and a good sports team wants to build for the long-haul and you do that through experience and character players)

  14. A good a$$-kickin' may be what the guys needed, just to remind them that they have to do more than just show up. You know Lindy is watching back in Buffalo. I'd hate to have to face him after laying this turd. Better now than in the playoffs.

    5-0 Atlanta...ugh.

    PTR

that is a good point. this team has not had any adversity since they started the since .500 over their first 18 games.

boys, try hard. losing streaks happen for a reason. check out the late Jan/early Feb stretch where Ottawa got smoked by Boston 5-0 and the Rangers 5-1 with win over Pitt and a loss to the Sabres in there.

yeah, it is tough to see them losing while it appears as though they are not playing hard, but that is part of a losing streak. the game starts getting in your head, take dumb penalties, etc. try to take it best you can, and be glad this is happening now, not in the postseason.

  15. 1 period - 7:47 minutes on the powerplay - 3 shots?

i think i officially resign from the board. was hoping to check in and catch some hockey talk and instead i came across a documentary about lemmings and it is the part where they are just about to jump off the cliff...

come on guys....even if they go on to lose the game, get a grip. they very well might be getting tired. this is a long season for a young team. start to deal with it - and before you do that realize it is only the 2nd period of this game?!?!?

  16. Advice from Doctors is to rest the knee a little longer. In Lindy's quote... "we need a healthy team weeks from now". So no, he's not playing.

I guess I can agree with that, much as I hate to see it.

i am sure many of you guys are feeling the same - and that is I can't wait until 7pm! It has a been a long time since I felt this way about a hockey game. I have always been Sabres first and Bills second, but there is jsut something about the build-up to the Sunday football games; even when the Bills have struggled in recent years. But, for the first time in a while, I almost feel like tonight is that "Sunday football" feeling!

Anyway, homeade chicken finger subs and Blue Light for this New Jersey resident tonight! Let's go Sabes!

Of course, that said, it has to be kept in perspective - win or lose tonight, there are still games left including three more with the Sens.

  17. Boston up 1-0 on Ottawa

dude, i know that there is normally a large number of Leaf fans at HSBC, but it seems more absurd than usual tonight? what the hell is wrong that we can't have more than half the crowd as Sabre fans in a year like this? and as much as I want to hate them, you really have to respect the way they did this game after game (show up in such large numbers)

  18. For what it's worth here are my thoughts:

Miller: Looked shaky in the first, pulled it together a little in the second, and really came on strong in the third. I think he can continue to build on it on Thursday. I would definately give him the start since it looks like he is finally coming out of this slump.

Officials: Absolutely terrible. The phantom high stick call on Max, the tripping call on Tallinder, plus a bunch of missed calls. Also did anyone else think the hit on Connolly was knee on knee? I didn't get the best look at it, but it looked like a knee to me.

i thought the tripping call was actually ok - it looked to me on the replay like tallinder gave him the 'slew-foot' although not on purpose.

  19. addressing the hypothetical arugment about miller's cold streak:

ryan was not technically sound in the 3rd period, but he made the saves, and that's all that counts when it comes to confidence and the victory. as stojan suggested on the TBD side, what if ryan is hiding a pulled muscle or something? if that were the case, i'd say he's playing pretty darn well. We will not know till the laffs game, but perception is reality, and hopefully ryan only remembers that he shut out the caps in the 3rd... forget everything before that.

it's a theory, but i think he is just in a slump. broduer was pulled for the second straight game tonight, so it happens to the best.

props to the crowd tonight - really sounded like a pro-buffalo crowd!

  20. ok, forget the game. its time to analize the nesn guys. During the first 10 minutes, it seemed like they were calling a fair game. objective reporting, even giving the sabres some compliments. Then came the roy high stick that he was faking (while bleeding on the ice) and the "retribution" comment on briere. these guys are clowns. tom golisano needs to start his own network, make it HD to go along with the new hd cameras and the HD scoreboards and then center ice will have a superior network to broadcast games from. make the announcement the week after the victory parade.

ok as for the game, you won't see a better give and go than you did with the roy goal... they're still shaky on defense but don't seem to be giving up many chances to biron... as for marty, he's playing well, but hasn't been given the chance to play awesome

(and lets keep it that way). the afinogenov goal was going to be a goal anyways beore the penalty shot (hell, he almost scored from his stomach anyways!) go sabres.

corp - i'm glad i was not the only one that caught that....that comment almost made me sick? how on earth do you have the balls to call out a guy down on the ice hurt before you have even seen the replay?!?! He called it 'embellishment?!!" these guys are just so bad I can't stand it! it is beyond being homers! they didn't see any 'embellishment' on that Kalinin hook?!? i mean, it is 3-0 and it was probably gonna get called anyway so i am not blaming the refs at all, but rather they didn't pick up on the holding the stick?!?

anyway, i thought we might struggle today but the boys look good!
