  1. the toughest part of this season is going to be keeping these guys grounded. it is going to be so easy to take nights off when it comes this easy.

that said, this is unbelievable. it looks like a bantam team playing against mites..

darian hatcher needs to hang them up. he was a great, rugged player especially for team usa, but he looks more like a pylon out there these days than a NHL defenseman.

  2. i didn't want to start a new jersey thread b/c i know those are so popular, and i further know that i could care less about media (especially in toronto), but i really do guarantee those reporters will have nothing but wisecracks to add about those jerseys.

yes, i know, i would rather have our hockey team any day over the Leafs, and who cares about the jersey, but i still annoys me. and yes, we will beat them 7 of 8 and all four in Buffalo, but they still have that classic jersey that never needed radical updating after 80+years or whatever it has been..

  3. You know what makes me mad? Not that they lost. Not that they gave up 4, not that they made mistakes in their own end. I am mad that after the 4th goal, they gave up. Who cares what the scoreboard says, put in 100% for a full 60 minutes. I hope the last few minutes doesn't carry over to Sunday.

i actually thought they played hard that whole last shift. that 4th goal was just a kick in the stones....it only could have been worse had it been stillwoman or commodore that got that lucky bounce...

  4. Seven? I'm afraid I think it'll be over in six, the way this game is panning out.

come on dude - where's the happy face!

look, let's get real here and even with a full team this was not going to be easy. i don't want to use injuries as an excuse, but to plug in a couple of players that haven't been in the pros, let alone the Sabres all year, well sometimes it is just too tough to overcome things. i don't think the guys are playing bad, but this is just a tough situation.

let's not start jumping off the wagon here...who knows, it could end in 6 but it is not time to revert to the way people were talking back at the trade deadline...and once again, even if it does end in 6 these guys have played their balls off all year. but, i'm not even thinking this scenario....yet.

  5. Dude, Connolly just got effing destroyed open ice. I'll have to watch some replays of that one to see if Schaefer threw the elbow on that one. Looks like Timmy's gonna be done for a while, I hope to god he didnt get another concussion but it certainly appears that way

how the hell do you work this chat guys? i can't get it to open.

i just watched that connolly hit on TiVo every angle/speed possible and i don't think there was anything wrong with the hit. timmy was skating a little with his head down and he was not standing/skating straight up which is why he probably ran in to his schaefer's elbow.

i guarantee you that the biggest problem is the effing elbow pads that these guys wear these guys. i guarantee it. hate don cherry all you want, and i will be surprised if he does not mention it, but Grapes made a big deal of these elbow pads that guys wear these days. they are like body armour. i remember a hit a couple years ago in a boston/montreal game that was like the same thing, and it was not a direct elbow, but the guy more ran in to the elbow. it was all b/c of these effing pads they wear....

  6. I still can't believe it.

Folks, this Sabres team of ours has as much HEART and desire as any team I've ever witnessed.

I officially BELIEVE they can bring a cup to Buffalo.

    ...And I'm an agnostic....

i don't want to pee on the campfire, but we have a lot more wins to get before we can talk that way. Thank God for opportunistic rushes and a weak goalie. Although, I did not think most of those were the fault of Emery. He should have had the rebound on the one to tie it, and he should have had Drury's shot, but I will gladly take it. Especially b/c I think a game like this should get Miller all pissed off again b/c he really seemed to battle the puck tonight/control his rebounds.

But, you are definitely right about the heart - they never stopped in this game.

  7. Well, I bought my tickets today hoping it would get scheduled for Friday night, but it looks like because of a Tim McGraw concert........... that game will be on Thursday instead. If that does prove to be true I will not be able to attend as I was coming from out of town.

I don't even have the tickets yet, but if you are interested let me know.

  8.

i am soooo happy for this team, organization, community, the Ruff family, etc....we have accomplished so much and deserve a couple nights to sit back and reflect on how successful this season has been....

THAT said, I hope that just because we beat the Flyers everyone still has their expectations in check. This is a tough, tough team that we are playing in the next round. Personally, I love the experience that we have gained and have nothing but hope for the next round, but if we do lose this round I can not be remotely disappointed. We are plying a mirror reflection of ourselves except they have several years experience playing together. Either way, let's go Sabes!

  9. Coverage starts at 7:00pm tonight on Directv channel 765, also on MSG locally and TSN in canada. Join us here, or in the chat room. Also, if you are not able to see the local coverage, you can listen live on the internet at http://www.wgr550.com in the live radio section.

    GO SABRES!

for those with the center ice package, have you noticed that whenever it is the MSG feed we usually get the post-game Shootout show, etc, whereas most other games covered by Center Ice, the broadcast usually cuts out immediately after the game.

For those fans going to the Wachovia Center good luck tonight! Hopefully they are not as bad as most of us seem to believe! I definitely look forward to the stories tomorrow!

  10. Someone is going to get hurt if the refs don't control this. This is a new low for Philly. Even Forsberg is playing like a bitch. A couple more 5 minute majors, misconducts, and suspensions should do the trick. I bet Brian Campbell is halfway down the I-190 by now. He shouldn't be anywhere near the ice in the 3rd.

before i lost the feed is seemed like they were making all the right calls and the flyers just don't seem to care.

how was the 3rd gone so far?

  11. Nice interview with Rob Ray and Tie Domi. Domi seemed humble, honest and real.

i'm at my in-laws and i have no idea how this game is going? help!??!

also, i always thought Domi would be the kind of guy i could have on my team. he seems real, he plays hard, can fight, but can also score goals. yeah, he crosses the line of dirty and chippy, but i would take a guy like him on my team any day over a guy like tucker. the big difference i think is domi has respect for his opponents and tucker has none.

  12. I bet peters dresses in place of vanek on the 4th line. rory in for teppo. I don't see much coming in terms of revenge. The league hates lindy ruff and the sabres, so if the team gives the league an inch, they'll take it. Peters will be there in case toronto starts anything. I doubt that fat pat will do anything though... he's looking for a new job next week. hate to make a bad impression.

I think dressing peters is a no-brainer. in this new nhl there is barely any room for him, but in the old nhl this is the exact kind of game that you keep him around for and that is protect your star players.

i don't think peters will go out looking for tucker, but i also think that if lindy saw tuckers' line on the ice and various points of the game today that he will send out petey.

all that said, and as roby said last night on the shootout, i think it will be relatively quiet.

by the way, anyone catch some of tucker's play last night late in the 3rd? he gave alfredsson a stab in the back of his leg with his stick and alfredson went back after him. tucker immediately began throwing punches with his gloves on.....guy is such a hack.

The Montreal Canadiens eliminate the Buffalo Sabres with a 4-2 win in Game 6. But the Habs cannot wipe out the spirit of the Sabres' faithful at the Aud, who sing their team's praises until the bitter end, serenading their boys with a chant of "Thank you Sabres!" The chant starts in the final minute, prompting Rick Martin to score a "you're welcome" goal with 12 seconds left, and continues through the postgame handshakes.

"The town was pretty much hockey-crazy. They were wild about the players, and the players were wild about the town," Schoenfeld would say 17 years later. "We had given everything we had and they recognized that. They were grateful for the effort. We were all moved by the chant. You never forget a moment like that."

    Rene Robert didn't forget, either.

"I will never forget how good the crowd was to us," he said years later. "They stood behind us whether we won or lost. Not too many fans would give you a standing ovation for being beaten out of the playoffs."

"It was the most unbelievable feeling I've ever had," Coach Joe Crozier recalled.

    April 12, 1992

The Sabres beat the Canadiens at the Aud in the first game after a 10-day players' strike.

Man, I was not even born yet, but that moment still gives me the chills! I think it has been attempted in recent years by the faithful but it did not have the same effect. What a great moment in the history of the organization!

  14. You know this is the first time I have been pissed at Darcy and his failure to get a defenseman at the deadline. How many freaking times is Kalinin going to give the puck up in the buffalo zone. I am so sick of Kalinin and his breakdowns.

why is Kalinin still getting shifts????

holy #%^$#!! he is still out there!

i hate him it sounds like as much as you sabre, but i can't blame darcy on this one but only b/c i am part of the 'this is a youth movement' and this is the best time for these guys to learn how to play the game. that said, i think enough is enough and it is time to unload this guy. he has been given enough chances

campbell - what a nice job on that setup! he on the other hand to me is worth the negative +/- b/c he can make plays like that!

  15. what do you guys think of Grier's play lately? Aside from crushing Darcy the other night he really seems to have come on lately...I also think Mair makes a huge difference on that 4th line. Maybe it just a few little things that we need to come back together (some stellar goaltending and limit the giveaways would help :) )

let me tell you something boys i will take 8 rory fitzpatrick's who might be light on skill but who at least tries to work his balls off every night over dimitri kalinin any day. that guy is such a waste of talent. 3-3 game with the division leader and he f's around with the puck on his own blue. get the FUGGIN' puck out cementhead....

  16. ok enough whistle talk! somehow the sabres found a way to tie it at 3. emery looks shaky and we're getting chances. the third period could go either way, but hopefully the sabres can pull out a victory. i'd love for them to get to 50 wins on the season...

  17. we just got screwed with that goal...they should have blown the whistle and they didnt, and that allowed Eaves to hack it into the net even though Biron covered it..........BS!

And the one in Toronto didnt count because the referee "meant to blow the whistle"...whats the difference!

i just heard for the first time jeanerette reference that ruling in Toronto. I don't buy in to the conspiraces or that the league is against us whatsover, but please tell me the official ruling on the no goal in Toronto was not that the 'official meant to blow the whistle!'

  18. Still on 768 for DirecTV as I already posted...

On a game note, Vanek just made a great backchecking defensive play. Maybe the sit down actually worked.

man, i really like Max more and more each game. Nice setup by Campbell. His +/- stinks but he is one of our few D that can lug the puck up ice.

Anyone notice how Max looks towards the stands after he scores? I noticed it last week that it seems like he acknowledges someone in the arena after goals...

btw, i should probably be doing this stuff in the chat room but i can't get beyond my firewall!

anyway, i love that labatt outdoor pond hockey championship commercial - ironic, that the USA Hockey Pond hockey championships are hosted by Labatt!

  19. according to the guys on the Leafs telecast he is the second coming...

Man, I am afraid that we are just not good enough. The effort is here tonight but we are one or two players away from being able to go anywhere in the playoffs. This is playing like a playoff game and we just are not strong enough to stay with anyone. We get hit all over the place, worked off the puck then take a dive. The only way we win is when we score the highlight reel goals and the quick one-timers in front of the net. We are just not physical enough to endure in these games. I hope Darcy has a plan this offseason.

i know what you are saying and a lot of people feel that way....i still think this team greatly overachieved, but we have a strong nucleus for years to come. maybe a solid d or two, but i think the thing we need most is experience. as harry neale said tonight we have 13 guys on this roster that have never even been in a playoff game?!??! so, losing streak or not, i was personally not expecting much in the playoffs b/c experience means too much. and personally i'm happy with that b/c i love building for the future so this playoff tourney is almost playing with house money.

good to always chat with you guys, entertaining game no matter how it turns out. 'night boys!
