  1. Pivotal part of the game was Buffalo withstanding that flurry after the second goal. Holding them to 1 goal could be huge. Miller made some great saves to keep us up. Man, the Sens were coming at us hard after that second goal. Gotta' stop taking penalties away from the puck, too. We keep giving them chances on the PP, and that lead won't last. Emery again does not look particularly sharp tonight. We have to just start throwing pucks at him.
  2. I just got back from my son's hockey practice and was absolutely ecstatic seeing that 3-0 score at the end of the first, and it looks like they aren't letting up. That was a great pass to Pominville for that 4th goal. We got to lay off these penalties, though. That Forsberg line is tough enough 5-on-5. BANG! Afinogev hammers home the one-timer for a 5-0. The rout is on, boys!!!! This team has given up.
  3. Yeah, I can barely stand watching this game. It is just gut wrenching to see this effort and those kinds of bounces. Ugh! Game's not over, but this game is slipping away from the Sabres.
  4. I was out all night and have this game waiting on my TiVo. Is it even worth watching?
  5. Philly is just absolutely losing their cool out there. The Philly fans are all complaining about the number of penalties, but Philly is earning every one of them with their frustrated play. This series is only going to get uglier once it gets back to Philly, and their "classy" fans (most of whom don't care if they lose 15-0 so long as they end one of the Sabres seasons by injury).
  6. That is what I am wondering. Philly may have squandered a super-human effort by Esche in Game 1. No way do I see him repeating that performance of 50+ saves. We have to do a better job at finishing. We had a lot of good looks in Game 1, but after Esche made some good saves, we started "pressing" and hurrying shots. Patience will be the key. That being said, it will be interesting to see the kind of emotion that Philly plays with tonight. How are their legs going to feel after that extra session on Saturday night. Philly seemed to skate with us in the 3rd period on Saturday, but we'll see how fresh they are tonight in the 3rd.
  7. Horrible PK. You can't give a team that long in your zone. Man, that goal was frustrating to watch.
  8. Another gutty win for the Sabres. Man, maybe Mike Mularkey should have some of the Bills watch these guys play.
  9. Biron has been playing all right, so far. The goal he gave up was a fluke-y bounce off of Briere's stick after a lost face off in their defensive end. Sabres have had some OK chances, but they have been unable to finish anything. Nice save by Biron on the breakaway.
  10. Kotalik sticks in the rebound off of Afinogenov's shot to extend the lead to 6-4. Another PP goal.
  11. Interesting to read these comments, after a disappointing effort last night. I was at the game, and yeah, there was technically a crowd there, but it was the lamest effort I've seen by a BCA crowd ever. I've heard louder crowds at Amerks games where they were getting beat. I wrote my comments about the crowd in the other thread, but suffice it to say that there was no energy in the crowd and the Sabres did little to generate any enthusiasm. I hate it when teams pull this "playing-down-to-the-level-of-a-bad-team" stuff. They just got plain out-hustled all night long and looked like they were just going through the motions. An all-around poor team effort. I mean 17 shots on goal?!?! Kolzig was only tested a handful of times all night.
  12. Vanek had a beautiful SHG attempt as he came out of the penalty box, but he had to take a bad angle to the net with the puck and Koivenen (sp?) stopped it as Vanek crossed in front of the net. Miller has been stout killing off the 5-on-3, and he's been great all night so far.
  13. Briere - BANG! AND MILLER STONES ST. LOUIS!!!! Connolly - loses control of the puck - MISS! AND RICHARDS LOSES CONTROL OF THE PUCK!!!!! VANEK - BANG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SABRES WIN!!!!!!! So, Vanek dribbles the puck through for his first goal (sort of). Awesome timing. Great come from behind win on the road against the Champs. Maybe this team is for real. 4-1!
  14. Once again, the special teams hurts us with a 2-man advantage in OT, and we can't score. We go to a shootout, and I just don't know how much I trust Miller. He has had a good game with some clutch saves, but I just don't know. Still 1 point on the road against the Stanley Cup Champs is not bad.
  15. Gaustad with his second goal in 2 games to tie things up. Nice goal as the result of hard work.
  16. They do, and Recchi was probably the biggest contributor of their veterans all night. Lyle Odelein provided his usual rough play. John LeClair was pretty much a non-factor all night, and BtP covered Mario's performance. Other than a stretch in the middle 3rd period, we just skated circles around the Pens, and continued the all-out assault on the net. The score really belies the number of quality chances they had and the number of saves Fleury made. I was glad to see us ram home the winner in OT, because I didn't like our chances in a shootout against Fleury. And, with Ryan's ability to allow soft goals, that could have spelled disaster for a game that we dominated. The 4-on-4 OT is definitely an advantage for our skaters.
  17. GOOOOOOALLLLLLL!!!!!! JOCHEN HECHT WITH THE GAME WINNER IN OT!!!!!! That is one of the prettiest ugly goals I've seen. Connolly with the shot and Hecht literally crams home the garbage goal winner.
  18. I hope we are able to sneak one past Fleury in OT, because I don't like our chances against him in a shootout. We do look quick out there, but the 4-on-4 should favor our skaters, one would think. Come on, guys.
  19. Pittsburgh is just beating the snot out of us out there. Heading to OT....
  20. Man, Drury misses on the 2 on 1, and then Miller makes a great save on the 2 on 1 back the other way. Jeez, this game may be stuck at 2-2.
  21. Anyone think were going to be able to get one more by Fleury?
  22. Frustration with a capital 'F', all right.
  23. And damn it, just like that, the Pens even the score.
  24. Man, Sabres are dominating this period in every way, and if not for stellar goaltending by Fleury, this game could be 4-1, easily. Power play coming up for Buffalo, but we are starting to not expect much from these. That entire PP took place in the Penguins zone and once again, Fleury had an answer for everything we threw at him. He has had an unbelievable period.
  25. How many shots have rung off the pipes for us tonight?!?!?
