I've been considering DirecTV Now which is their streaming version of DirecTV.  Not as many channels but much cheaper.  According to their site they offer MSG as part of their package.  They also have a cloud-based DVR if that's of interest.

The last time I checked they didn't have local channels (I live in the Roc area too) but perhaps this would be an option and perhaps you could get rid of one of your other services.  They're service can be picked up via Roku as far as I know.

They added MSG last year a month or so into the hockey season. I couldn't get the Buffalo version of it through their app, but I could login to MSGGO and watch Sabres games that way. That may have changed now as I don't watch MSG except during hockey season. They added the Rochester local channels last week. It runs on some of the Roku devices, but their latest version no longer works on my Roku 3.  Their app works well on a firestick or fireTV.  I've used the DVR some and haven't had any issues with it. The app has gotten much better since they rolled out version 2 of it and the periodic updates also seem to improve it now.

  2. The question is how do things get fixed?  We do not have much cap room for next year and there is no pipeline of talent coming from Rochester other than Ullmark and maybe Guhle.  Right now, we only have one first round pick (should be top five), and it is possible we will not see this pick playing for the Sabres for at least a year or two.  If you trade O'Reilly and/or Reinhart, do you get equivalent value or players that can play now?  Probably not.  This is going to take years to fix.  We are not the Devils or the Avalanche, teams that made relatively quick turn arounds.

This is where I'm at after yesterday's activities. Botterill turned over 10 players on the roster and we are significantly worse than last year. What player has gotten better over last year or during the season. We have a core of Okposo, ROR, Reinhart, Risto and Eichel. The 1st 3 maybe too slow to compete at a winning level in today's NHL. Risto seems lost a lot of the time.  Eichel is on his second significant injury in 2 seasons. Optimism for next year is based on a draft lottery win, signing college free agents or the Kane trade was addition by subtraction. I'm struggling to see a way forward that leads to improvement any season soon.

  3. I was hoping that the Kane trade would provide the assets to spark the improvement of the Sabres. Obviously we didn't get that. Coupled with the inability to trade any other player on the team seems to show just how far away the Sabres are from competing. GMJB brought in 10 new players and we got worse. Outside of Guhle, Ullmark and maybe Middlestadt the cupboard is pretty much bare of prospects to help next season. Hope for improvement comes in the form of hoping for a lottery win and some useful scraps from free agency.  I don't see this team making the playoffs any time soon. Which comes first: playoffs, fire the coach or fire the GM.

  4. Who knew women's cross country skiing could be so exciting. I was out of my seat watching this one...

Amazingly one of the better events to watch. A great comeback by the skier and the announcers were great calling it. And it all happens at a relatively slow pace. Gives plenty of time see in detail what is actually going on.

  5. From Friedman

Hearing NYR AGM Chris Drury wont interview w/BUF. Sabres asked. Rangers consulted Drury, but decision was: not yet time. A future GM, though

And Drury saves the Pegulas from themselves.

  6. At this point, from management to coaching to players, the Leafs are far, far ahead. It's incredible what kind of production they're getting from their young kids. They still have Dermott and Bracco and a few really good forward prospects on the way. Matthews and Marner and Nylander all have loads of room to grow. They have their ROR (Kadri) but have him at $4 mil and didn't have to trade anything to get him. The amount of assets they have while icing the team they do make me embarrassed about the 14-15 team (which I was already embarrassed about).

They will be the class of our division for a long time. We will hopefully be Philly to their Pittsburgh. But we have loads of work to even get to that point.

I'm not sure we can make enough changes in one off season to make the playoffs.  Talent wise we're just too far behind and too close to the cap. Even if we add the defensemen we need for next year, the forwards aren't up to the task. That leaves the Sabres with the likely scenario that they start off slow and Bylsma is fired during the season and, unless there is a miraculous turn around, miss the playoffs again.
