Guys in positions like Pop aren't looking for the same thing in a President. He may be looking for a role model/ guiding light for the country to show off to the rest of the world. But there are many who are sick-and-tired of that "Presidential" persona that has done more harm than good (in their opinion) in the last several decades.

My original point/ suggestion was that what if journalists aren't liberal* going into their career, or even coerced into it once they get there? (*Liberal as compared to any other cross section of society) What if the nature of that business- reporting on the news of the day- unintentionally leads someone down the road to having a more liberal outlook on the world? Other than the traffic, sports and weather, most news involves some form of conflict....between people, nations, interests and opinions, etc. I can kind of see how even a neutral or even disinterested person would at least appear to be liberal doing that every day.

A bit too simplistic but if that works for you...

A friend of mine has this theory on why the media seems to be more liberal.... Most "news" is going to involve some kind of change from the norm. Things that are out of the ordinary are what make headlines or find a spot on the broadcast TV shows. So most liberal or progressive causes tend to also involve some sort of change, while conservative causes tend to be the opposite. Gay marriage, global warming, universal healthcare......and so on. It makes sense for someone in the news industry to hope for more of this stuff, since it makes for more content and business. Now somewhere along the way it probably becomes a chicken-or-the-egg situation, as liberal people are compelled to choose the media as a profession, and it's less of a natural phenomenon. But it still seems like a plausible reason, at least to me.

This has been one of the more aggravating topics in the last couple of days. How can anyone say with a straight face that "your candidate won because of it (the electoral college)?" I'm assuming anyone that takes 1 minute to think it through would realize that A.) the campaigns and resources spent on them would be COMPLETELY different and B.) Voter turnout and behaviors would very likely be different as well if the electoral college were eliminated.

Oh, I thought you were asking an honest question earlier. Carry on, as they say.

Alleged fraud in a real estate seminar program as a private citizen vs illegal handling of classified government information, etc., etc.? Yes, Hillary is the liar who can't be trusted.

And there it is.... The condescending notion that people can't make decisions for themselves, and that somehow you know better than they do what is important for them in a President/ government in general.

Please. I read the same or similar opinion pieces that clearly had an agenda. The only reference of GLOATING was this release from the NC GOP. I don't think anyone wants to interrupt the good flow going here! Picking on people who live south of the Mason-Dixon (oh and rural PA too now), cracking on church-goers, and sprinkling in a little jab here-and-there on cops, gun owners, and military. All while straining to pat yourselves on the back about how caring and inclusive you are. Keep up the good work- I don't know how you do it!

I've never seen a state quoted before! Lol And, it gives a little more intrigue to the earlier statement of how Trump made "the move to pull out of Virginia..." Hmmmm

The playing of the national anthem always felt like a nice, brief moment where we (white, black, Republicans, Democrats, Bills fans, Bruins fans, etc, etc) could come together as one and share a common thread. Here we are in America, and even though it's not perfect, we have a lot to be proud of and thankful for. Seems to me we could use MORE of these moments these days. That said, I could care less about Kaep....I only am curious if he does the same thing when he goes to a family member's little league game-- I'm betting he stands during the anthem.

Thanks, but if you can't at least acknowledge that the market has been manipulated by some in the name of "saving the planet", I would say the same about your view of how capitalism works. There's a big difference between a push (by the state) and what we have seen and can expect to see if left unchecked.

I think an argument would be that capitalism really hasn't been at work with some of these programs you've been discussing. The free market didn't decide it, but instead it was kind of shoved down everybody's throats through subsidies or regulations. Obama shooting down the Keystone pipeline or offshore drilling in the mid-Atlantic sounds good if you can then go back and point to some positive development that MAY have come because of these actions. But what about the opportunity costs involved? And the jobs and other benefits that are now never realized?I don't think anybody would argue with a technology that can do the same or better job than its less Eco-friendly predecessor. I don't think that's what we're being presented with, more times than not. But if it's being done "for the planet", there's a lot of people that just accept it and think everyone else should too.

Why am I reminded of the racist guy who plays the "hey, some of my good friends are black" card whenever you drop the "I've voted for GOP candidates several times.." line? Ohhhhhh...well in that case you're totally objective and believable!

All we need to do is go back 4 years and look at how Romney was portrayed by the Dems to get a better perspective on this topic. Somehow this former-Massachessetts (!!!!) governor who spearheaded universal healthcare among other liberal policies, was made to seem like a right wing nut-job by Election Day. Ask him a million questions about abortion or gun control or some other bs topic, and Voila! And the arguments about how HUGELY different/superior the Dems are to the Republicans is ridiculous. We're talking largely about a group of people who have somewhere along the way figured out whether a D or an R is going to win them an election. From there, it's all just a matter of degrees when you measure meaningful differences.

Because the framers of course included the 2nd amendment to make sure that a bunch of guys can go skeet shooting once a year, or to keep some old musket in a cool glass case.

But driving a vehicle is not a Constitutionally protected right. The comparison does not work.

Another sad story. But I think it supports my point about a general lack of respect or awareness that many citizens have in these situations. These are not "misunderstandings"... These are examples of someone trying to be a bad-ass, mess with the cops, or whatever is going through a person's mind. But on the other end of it is a policeman who is justifiably fearful of his and his partner's life, and with a gun. Once you've crossed into this area, I truly believe that the whole black/white thing is entirely diminished. It's just about surviving that moment and instincts.

So let me follow the reasoning: * 0% chance that a conceal carry could prevent acts of violence in public * very good chance that gun control laws WOULD prevent these acts ** gun control laws enforced by out-of-control and militaristic government agency (police) **** police kill and harass even more citizens because of additional relative power *****public acts of violence still occur in spite of restrictions. (Because if we're honest with ourselves, a person willing to sacrifice his own life in these shootings is going to do whatever he has to do to make that happen.Regardless of what weapons are available, how much of a hassle it is to get one, etc.) Sounds great.. Who do I vote for to make this happen?

I guess my point was more along the lines of we (citizens) realizing the situation we are in and the people (cops) we are dealing with. Yes, there are times when a cop may be more on edge or rude when dealing with someone who is black. But when the word "gun" is brought up during the process-- as I believe has been the case in the recent events-- there has to be an appreciation for the survival instincts and fears of the police officer. When my cracked tail light leads to a dispatch call saying that I have prior weapons charges (as an example), I should damn well expect for that cop to be on a razor's edge with me. And if he tells me to "keep your hands where I can see them", you would have to pry my palms off the dashboard.

Got a buddy who owns a tow truck and has a contract with the State Police. Often times he's called out late at night to a wreck or some other scary situation. He told me that the cop(s)' goal in every circumstance is to 1.) handle the situation as quickly and effectively as possible and 2.) make it home to be with their wife and kids. If someone on the scene threatens #2 from happening, that's when things get REALLY scary. The cause might be a real threat (hostile or aggressive person) or maybe just a perception/ gut feeling the cop has. But as my friend said- as an uninvolved bystander- you better believe that once that point is reached, it's the cop that's making it home to his family. It has nothing to do with trying to be a hero or any other alterior motive, black guy, white cop, etc.

I think the general perception is that Trump says things that may or may not be true for effect, or because he just doesn't know and won't admit it. Clinton is perceived as an intentional and calculated liar. Not a ringing endorsement for Trump, but I think easier to stomach for many. At this point, I wouldn't bet a mortgage payment on either of them winning. But I guess one of them will.

This fiasco seems to be a huge (Yuge?) opportunity for Trump. Obama's lack of transparency and a general mistrust of the Federal government opened the door to the whole Trump candidacy to begin with. I can only imagine that this Clinton email scandal and subsequent lack of punishment will confirm the following to a very large number of voters: 1. Clinton is a liar who will say and do whatever necessary to protect/ benefit herself 2. The "system" is terribly slanted to favor political insiders and career politicians. And I have to think that these points extend beyond the existing Trump crowd.....it'll be interesting to see how many will actually be able to still mark her name down on the ballot.
