Up front, this team needs an entirely new 4th line and probably needs a top 6 center.  This offense needs to be more physical, add some playmakers and guys willing to drive to the net.  KA also needs to answer what the long-term future is for Skinner as a Sabre.  Could be bought out this off-season?

We need an entirely new first line. That would fix our fourth line problems.

The blame isn't as important as the solution.

I think everyone on this forum would agree that Donny was a great guy, good at developing players, meh at game coaching at the NHL level.  He had to go.

The board is split as to whether Kevyn is capable of building a contending team.  This has to be weighed against the pros and cons of giving Kevyn another year or two versus turning it over to someone new, which brings its own risks and may further delay the current build or event trigger a new rebuild.

In simple terms, TPegs looks at progress (or lack thereof) to date, and has to figure out if Kevyn is part of the problem or part of the solution.

He's given every other GM two coaching hires.  Kevyn had the "penalty" of having to run the previous coach back at the beginning of his administration.  Giving him one more coaching hire follows the TPegs pattern.

How can you have both of these things? I don’t agree about Donny. How can we make a decision about whet he could do “at an NHL level” when Kevyn never iced and NHL team for him? Not a complete one anyway.

Your disdain for Dahlin is akin to PAs against Pegula. He’s a gifted player and gifted players do make mistakes of arrogance due to their confidence in their play. Every player worth anything will do that every so often because the opposite is far worse. (Essentially Dahlin under Krueger where he’s playing on broken glass terrified to make any mistake.)

    Okay, this is weird.

I have zero disdain for Dahlin. Zero.

This is how I feel about resolution, but not sound quality. I just bought a new tv that apparently is significantly better than my old in terms of picture quality, but I don’t see it. Things just look the way they do. Sound quality I notice immediately though and will usually pay for if it’s affordable.

Did you know that they’ve done tests, and better sound quality fools people into thinking that the picture is clearer.

We had the #1 rated prospect pool when Tim Murray was GM. He promptly traded most of them away for magic beans. Now that Adams has restored that pipeline people want him to act like Tim Murray again.

I’m not sure it was #1, but that doesn’t matter anyway, and at the time, it was the right decision. We were all excited about the players he got back in those trades. Just because it didn’t work does not mean it was the wrong thing to do.

I don’t see anything special about this group of prospects that differentiates it from any other team’s prospects.

Unfortunately, I don’t think anything is going to change, so our only option is to wait and watch and hope that our core develop (ffs, we’ve been hearing that since black Sunday) and dream about a future that is never going to get here.

I really hope that the Sunshine and Kittens crew are right. I really do. I want these guys to be a playoff team before I die.

    Really? That's cool.

That may be a bit of hyperbole.

I went to my friends house to watch a Sabres game, of all things, and when I got there, he opens the door and flings a bat onto his front sidewalk (he gets them in is house all the time). We went inside, hung out a bit, watched the game, hung out some more. Maybe three+ hours. When I went to leave, I open the front door and the bat was still on the front sidewalk. It was winter so it was pretty cold out. It looked dead, but when I went to touch it, it weakly lifted its head. I asked my buddy if he was going to do anything with it and he says “something will eat it before morning.”

I got in my car to leave. I think I even started to drive away, and thinking about bad Sabres juju, 😂 I said F it, and parked my truck, got a plastic cup and went and got him. Drove home with the heat blasting on it, then I sat in the driveway for another 15 or 20 minutes trying to warm it up. It finally started to look like it was sick of being in a cup, so I opened the door, flicked the cup and he flew away.

So, I didn’t really rehab it, but it absolutely would have died if I had done nothing.

    Wish I had taken pictures.

You still don't understand budgeting 101 and that's OK.  Not going to belabor it any further.

We all see ownership is bad and at some point post-COVID, they adopted a new fiscal plan with this franchise.  One that is damaging the on-ice product and driving fans away.

Dude, we get it. The Sabres are losing money every year, Terry is not losing money every year for owning them.

If he didn't come in here swingin' his dick about drilling another well, we might not be as hard on him, but he did so it's his own making.

I actually rehabbed a bat last year. I tried to do my part. It didn't work.

You want the owner to, because his net worth is in the billions, lose money on your favorite hockey team.  Not going to happen no matter how many times you pound that sand.

The badly underperforming hockey team is under no obligation to lose millions of dollars a year as an olive branch to bring back fans and win more games.

We can all agree TPegs is not a good owner, is out of his element, doesn't know hockey like he thinks he does, etc.  Still doesn't mean he's going to open up the check book and splurge like he did back in 2011-12.

You are not saying anything that anyone disagrees with.

Except for the excuse being used as the reason. Net, Tpegs  is not losing money every year.

Is there any indication that the owner is in a hurry to make the playoffs?

Since the 2021 TDL, the team has not retained any salary in a trade, acted as a broker for other teams, not taken any salary dumps for assets ( Bishop’s Contract to hit the cap floor does not count) nor have they spent anywhere near the salary cap over the past three seasons. This is coming from above Adams.

Adams was relieved when there was no retention in the Okposo or Johnson Deals I wonder why that is

Colorado gave Philly a 2025 1st for taking Ryan Johansen as a cap dump, does anyone here believe that the same deal wasn’t offered to Buffalo in the Mitts Trade?  That pick could have been used as a trade chip this summer.

There have been rumors of restrictions on spending to make up for Covid losses. Unless this changes, this team may be stuck in neutral.

The obstacle is the internal salary cap placed by the owner.
There were deals to be made last offseason for veterans but the incoming salaries would have pushed beyond that cap, so they were nixed.
Adams took the job and carried out Pegula’s effective, efficient and economic plan, with the understanding that there would be a time to switch back to a spending mode.
The thought amongst the Front Office last summer was to start that process, unfortunately the person who sets the budget did not

The policy Terry puts forth this summer will tell us a lot about whether or not he gives a crap about winning.

Until then, I have no opinion about where this team is headed.

Or where the rebuild is a failure or not.

I was listening to Paul Hamilton on WGR talking about Cozens and his substandard play this season. He made the same point that you just made that the team's disappointing start had a negative/depressing effect on him. Cozens entered the season expecting to play well and be a leader. It seems that because he cared so much he ended up being consumed by the team's failure. The surrounding negativity drained him, and it showed.

I, however, have a different view on Cozens and what his role should be next year. I expect him to be our 2C playing with Quinn and another scoring and gritty winger (Peterka??).

The critical issue for me is not whether Cozens is our 2C or 3C. It is adding another 2C caliber of talent who can play on the second or third line. The Mitts trade added a first or second pairing defenseman. It was a good hockey trade. But the loss of Mitts requires another player who can fill that void.

As I said in prior posts, consistent losing has a corrosive effect on the players. I worry about Dahlin getting influenced by persistent team futility. The owner and GM need to jolt this roster with a couple of impactful players. If those additions can be made it will have a cascading positive effect throughout the lineup.

Hope you plan on missing the playoffs again, then.

I was reading that in the UK, they drive on the left and that the reason goes back to medevial times.

When on horses jousting, the shield was in the L hand at the weapon in the right, you are aligned to charge on the left side. This was apparently one of the driving forces behind it.

    Wrong thread.

I do believe that. I believe Adams believes that too. I believe Pegula believes that as well. I think they drink their own Kool-Aid and they all (many of the players as well including Dahlin) think that they are extremely talented and it's just that they are young and it's taking a little longer than they thought but they believe they are talented and on the right track and everything is fine.

I do think they believe that, yes.

    That’s just stupid.
