It's interesting.  Growing up I could use a left or right stick in street hockey.  Really no difference.  I eventually settled into right handed.  Perhaps because I played baseball and also swung that way?  No idea.

However, as I see it, the top hand is a pivot hand and the precision of where a stick goes is done with the bottom hand.  I can swing a stick one handed all day long either either hand, but if I want control, the bottom hand is where it's at.

I think I feel the exact opposite is true.😂

I think the type of shot matters as well.

TBH, as a fan I absolutely hate this. Why should I lose my draft picks to sign a guy that wasn't worthy of a draft picks 3 years ago?

It would be a very short draft special on TSN. No team is competing with another team to try and acquire these guys. Vesey turned out to be a serviceable NHLer, but that is hardly high praise, and there are plenty of those guys out there.

  3. Do people really not go outside because it’s cold or raining?

There is no bad weather, just bad gear.

Of course, if the reason you are going out is to see the sun, it might be an issue. 😂

But K-9 is right, although you might not see it directly, at this point, does anyone really not know what a total eclipse looks like? It will still be kinda nuts to be outside in total darkness during the day.

Wish I was going to be there.

I'm not sure why we say the Flyers are inferior enough on paper than the Sabre that its an issue.  Philly has 8 of their top 10 scoring forwards as former first round picks, 2 of them in the top 10. They have really no rookies or first year players, but they have a good mix of guys in their early 20's, late 20's and guys in their 30s.  Their top 2 D-men are also former first round picks, and they have a really good mix of veterans back there that actuall are still productive.

The Sabres have a few more top 10 picks than the Flyers, but that Philly team is under-rated in terms of talent, and they are older/have a better mix of veterans than the Sabres do. In terms of 'talent and pedigree' they really aren't lacking guys with skill, and 'on paper' they are a more experienced team than Buffalo.

Last year I looked at Philly's roster and thought they were in trouble, but when I look at who they have...sure no 'elite' talent, first or 2nd overall picks, but on paper they do have a lot of talent, it may even be one of the 'better constructed' rosters out there.

    I agree.

You have to remember that when we talk about the Sabres around here, we are talking about their ”potential” talent, not their actual talent.

I don't think there's much correlation between hockey handedness and normal handedness. Kids just do whatever feels good, and it's kind of random.

I disagree and always find it weird that so many right handed people shoot right. A lot of hockey is played with only one hand on the stick. Why would you use your non-dominant hand for that?

Making the playoffs or not this year, this stretch of essentially desperate playoff-type games, facing elimination if you lose, is good for this young team. Valuable experience for next year when we're actually in the playoffs.

Next year is next year. Unless they get in, these wins will mean nothing. They are fun to watch, though.

    Could you feel anything?

Dude. Absolutely! We just had another one around 6pm. Only a 4.0 and much shorter.

The earlier one was much longer and getting unnerving. All the neighbors came out and were standing in their doorways. Pretty wild.

He will be, plus the talent around him will be elevated, Benson, Quinn and JJP are all improving.

Next year will be much better

Did you copy/paste that from last April?

I think it's that he became a father. That had to be a big distraction, but he seemed to adjust as season went on. He'll be better next year

Whether his injury was a board hit or a fluke injury it happens in hockey, and in all sports for that matter.

Is he a difference maker? He's a legitimate first or second-line talent. It's not so much an issue of him leading him us to the playoffs as it is having a good enough team/players around him to get this team into the playoffs. Just ask Dahlin what it takes to get to the playoffs. He's a sterling player who needs more help to get this team over the hump.

He is most definitely not a legitimate first or second line talent. He may be one day, but he certainly isn’t now. And by saying  we need good enough players around him to get to the playoffs would mean the he would be pushed to the third or fourth line on that team.

Sabres goals allowed in the 1st period - 91 (worst in the NHL)

Sabres goals for in the 1st period - 59 (7th worst in the NHL)

    Sabres 1st period differential - -32 (2nd worst in the NHL) (Chicago is -33, Ana - 19, Stl -13)

Sabres differential for the season 0.  That means we are +32 the rest of the game.

Sabres wins when leading after the 1st period 15 (6th worst in the NHL).  Win % when leading after 1 = .833 (8th best in the NHL)

Wins when leading after the 2nd period - 23 (22nd in the NHL).  Sabres win % when leading after 2 periods = .920 (3rd best in the NHL).

The stats illustrate that the Sabres slow starts killed this season.  When the Sabres did come out strong, they nearly always won.  The coaching was unsuccessful in solving the problem of the slow starts.  Since KA isn't getting rid of the players, he needs to move on from the coaches that couldn't find a solution to the slow starts.

Of course the Sabres score more in the later periods. Once a team goes up by 3 goals, they usually do take their foot of the gas.

I don’t think it’s because of slow starts. I think it’s because they are not very good.

To be fair to Quinn on the issue of durability, he tore his Achilles while training in the offseason, and the injury that he suffered on a hit along the boards would have injured anyone who took a similar hit. It's not so much the frequency of his injuries as it is the severity of them when they have occurred to him. I have high expectations of him as a player for this team.

It was a routine play along the boards. Others make that play a dozen times a game and don’t get injured. I actually think he got injured when he spun around, before he was even hit.

And it’s both. The severity and frequency of his injuries are a concern. I really like him as a player. I just wish he stayed healthy and we got to see him play more. Even then, still not sure he is a difference maker that leads us to the playoffs.
