  1. Reasons we may be substantially better and not finish last.

1] This is already the good Myers. He may not be great but this Myers makes the team a completely different team, and I think from the time Nolan came on until he got hurt, he was pretty much the good Myers. he looks very good this preseason.

2] Not having 4-5 guys per game who dont really belong in the league like last year is a monster difference.

3] Average or even legitimate bottom 2 defensemen are 10x better than crappy defensemen.

4] Guys like Gionta who score 10 goals are 2-3 times the player that average Sabres over the last couple decades that score 10 goals.

5] The Chris Stewart that tries is a damn good player.

6] Grigs looks like he may actually help.

7] Having only the 4th line made up of 4th line players instead of 4 lines with 4th line players sprinkled throughout is a huge difference.

8] Hodgson on the wing the whole year should help the wings.

  2. My closest friend had plans to build an arena in Vegas at least eight years ago. It went to the final stages but was one of numerous ones like it that fell through at the end because of politics (of which he was wired to) and public funding, etc. It was going to be at The MGM property off the strip, by Southern Highlands. He had direct sit down meetings with Bettman who basically assured him they would allow a team there. He had an ex-NHL owner already willing to move a team there, begging him to be a tenant. He had talks with David Stern who wasnt against an NBA team there if hockey was first although Stern didnt 100% commit. But Bettman has been in favor of this behind the scenes for a long time. They just needed the arena and the timing to be right.

  3. Period 3 Notes:

Baptiste nice speed. Tricky wrister he has.

Risto stands out. Especially in the O zone.

Grigo is impressive on the puck, he just lacks,....hmmmm not sure yet.

    Zadoroff comes as advertised.

    I'm happiest with Carrier.

I'd be happy to see what Samuel-T does in Rochester.

The game might be too fast for Florentino.

Reinhart does a nice job seeing the extra seconds. Love how he patiently flips the puck to the negative space for teammates.

    Nice hockey fix for mid-July.

The Amerks are going to be fun to watch this year and in the coming years as Murray stockpiles guys like Carrier, Sam-Tom, Deslauriers, Fasching, etc.

  4. Notes: Period 1

    Bailey looks fast.

    Carrier strong on puck.

    Fasching is too.

    Zemgus is Zemgus.

You notice when Lemieux is on the ice.

    Reinhart can pass.

    Didn't notice Cornel-Compher-Baptiste line.

Fasching looks like he is going to be a player. Ullmark made a nice save. Reinhart had a nifty pass. Typical scrappy, crappy first time out but man, we have a lot of young talent. I can't believe I actually designed my day around the streaming of a developmental camp scrimmage.

  5. Ted Nolan is going to screw us out of McDavid/Eichel. We're going to have to get McDavid from ours or the Isles lottery chance. I fear we're going to end up 4-5 worst, and I understand that we were worst by a long shot.

  6. 2 way means the contract pays less in the AHL. Unless a guy has played less than a deminimus, they all have to clear waivers to go down and it was my understanding that recall waivers are a thing of the past.

But above a certain $ amount, 1 way contract players in the AHL count against the salary cap.

The length of the deal and the money, while not exorbitant, would likely deter teams from claiming him on waivers if we need to send him up or down a couple times.

  7. From what Murray just said, I think that Gionta was the main reason we got Gorges. Murray didn't call the Habs for Gorges, they called the Sabres, and said that Gorges had just added the Sabres as one of the teams he would go to. Murray said yes and the deal got done quick, all of it starting this afternoon. That had to be because he was pissed at the Habs and spoke with his good friend Gionta.

  8. Let me see if I can explain thisso we can all move on. To me this is a Darcy contract. He's a decent player, but the contract is too long and the player is unlikely to be able to perform to the contract when we will need him to the most. He's also a Darcy kind of player in my opinion. I want TM players. I want ass kickers and power forwards who are bigger stronger tougher and meaner than the other team. I don't give a ###### what numbers moulson can put up in the first three years because I don't care what our results are. I care about year four and five when moulson will likely be a contractual and performance liability. As coz said we can buy him out then I guess. I was just hoping that the days of buying out bad contracts were behind us.

Guys that can score, playing with very young, highly talented guys who need the experience (Reinhart, Girgensens, Grigs, McDavid?), can often make the young talented guys ascension a lot quicker and better.
