‘Tokarski couldn’t play the role of hero Thursday. His teammates were a disaster in front of him, committing uncharacteristic mistakes that led to three goals in a span of 1:37 during a second period that ended with fans booing the Sabres off the ice.’

Mike Harrington: Sabres gave signs a total stinker was coming and they delivered
‘The 5-0 burn they took from the Flames was the first pure stinker this season under Don Granato, the first time they looked like the team-with-no-clue we saw so many nights under Ralph Krueger.’
Sabres implode during second period, lose to Flames: ‘Embarrassing effort’
‘The Sabres looked downright awful. After a weak first period, they imploded in the second, allowing two goals in a 36-second span to fall behind five goals.’
Don Granato’s accessibility to Sabres players ‘a huge asset’
‘“Here’s what you have to do well, here’s what I see and my decisions are going to be based on A, B, C here,” Granato said. “You’re going to get ice time or not based on this criteria. I think it’s really important for players and their confidence to know what’s expected by me as their head coach and what’s demanded. Then they can clear their mind and they have a sense of objective. It’s all getting to that clarity.”’

Flames beat Sabres 5-0 on Markstrom’s NHL-best 5th shutout
‘The Sabres drew boos from the home crowd after the Flames scored four goals in the second period — the last three coming on consecutive shots on net from Tkachuk, Mangiapane and Gaudreau in a 1:37 span.’
Sabres shut out by Calgary
‘The Calgary Flames used four second period goals to stun the Buffalo Sabres and shut them out 5-0 on Thursday night at KeyBank Center.’
Opinion: The Sabres were a no-show and got pounded by Calgary.
‘This was a total mauling by the Flames. The Sabres were hanging in trailing 2-0, but Buffalo stopped playing early in the second and gave very little effort and hung Dustin Tokarski out to dry, giving up three ridiculously easy goals in 1:37.’
Three Observations: Sabres torched by Flames 5-0 at home
‘The entire first period more or less felt like Buffalo was on the penalty kill. The Flames had 11 shots on goal in the first 11 minutes of the game. After 20, Johnny Gaudreau was the only one to break through for Calgary. But as the Sabres continued pressed into hasty errors— largely the same way they often force their opponents to do instead— the floodgates opened.’
Flurry of goals in second period sink Sabres, 5-0
‘They played poorly in their own defensive zone at times and they couldn’t create a lot of offensive chances.’
