Never known to avoid a challenge, Peyton Krebs now a key player in Sabres’ plan

‘“The thing that got me excited was when I talked to Kevyn,” said Krebs, now 20. “He seems like a great communicator. He’s excited about building a team. I went through the same transition with the Kootenay Ice to Winnipeg Ice and we got new owners. Just that fresh start when I had it back then with the new owners and how excited they were to get going is a lot what I see here in Buffalo.”’

Sabres pick Owen Power has a big weekend for Michigan with Kevyn Adams watching

‘”I think my offensive game has kind of taken another step. But I think just all over the ice, defensively with my gap, it’s been a lot better in the ‘D’ zone. I think I’ve become harder to play against and done a better job of breaking out pucks and just making it hard on other teams to create offense and create sustained ‘O’ zone time.”‘

Axe: Can Alex Tuch’s homecoming help engineer a turnaround for the Buffalo Sabres?

‘Tuch wore the Sabres sweater (black and red version) as a fan. Now Tuch will pull on the royal blue and gold No. 89 as a member of the team he grew up rooting for.’

Owen Power is Thriving as a Sophomore

‘As the Sabres have gotten off to a better-than-anticipated start in the NHL, Power has been soaring in the NCAA – though that was much more expected, given his prodigious talents. Nevertheless, with 12 points in 10 games, Power is tied with Brisson for second in team scoring behind Johnson’s 14 points and Michigan is indeed off to a great start.’

Listen: Granato believes Sabres need to be more ‘competitive and passionate’

‘“I felt great about the competitive effort from the start,” Granato said with Howard Simon and Jeremy White. “Washington came out with a lot of energy, and it took us a little bit to match it. I definitely felt like there were segments where we were setting the tone. I thought it was a great game, and a game we needed. Our last time on the road was Seattle, and that was ugly in many ways, and we needed to be better. We needed to be competitive and passionate, and we had that last night. We just didn’t score enough.”’
