After surgery, Marco Scandella looking to bounce back on Sabres blueline

‘”I definitely went into the summer looking to improve in areas and I came ready to camp. This is a big season. It’s a great group of guys, it’s a new coach, still a great situation. You have to embrace it.”‘

Strong training camp might’ve earned Sabres’ John Gilmour roster spot

‘The slick Gilmour, 26, morphed into the Sabres’ biggest surprise this month, earning a long look from coach Ralph Krueger, who likes the way the newcomer plays within the team’s concepts.’

Buffalo Sabres 2019-20 season preview: It’s Krueger Time

‘Biggest weakness – Their forward depth. The Sabres don’t really put a scare in anybody, outside of their top line, which may be one reason Krueger has flirted with putting Skinner and Eichel on different lines during the preseason. Marcus Johansson being used at center speaks volumes about this lineup’s needs.’

‘Confident’ Girgensons made strong impression at camp

‘”You could see in Pittsburgh, his goal was really one of passion and one of confidence,” Krueger said after practice at KeyBank Center on Sunday morning. “So, he’s in a good space.”‘

Sabres assign Borgen to Rochester

‘Borgen, 22, played in four NHL games with Buffalo at the end of the 2018-19 campaign, averaging 16:33 of ice time and three hits per game. He dressed in two preseason games this fall, where he registered one shot on goal, three hits, and five blocked shots.’

Rasmus Dahlin uses Sabres’ final preseason game to work on play without the puck

‘”Rasmus did well,” Miller said. “I thought he did great tonight. It’s those little habits that come from playing at a lower level or whatever that obviously you can’t get away with in the NHL. He’s done a great job. Obviously you see how gifted he is out there. He’s fun to play with.”‘

Curtis Lazar, John Gilmour among bubble players hoping to make Sabres’ roster

‘Even if the Sabres keep 13 forwards and send Thompson to Rochester, Lazar would have to make the team over Girgensons, Larsson, Vladimir Sobotka or Kyle Okposo. That doesn’t seem likely at this point. The Sabres view Lazar as a valuable depth player, and he’ll be among the first recalled from the Amerks if he clears waivers. Though Lazar has scored only 15 goals in 246 regular-season games, he was rushed to the NHL at 19 years old and was slow to adjust to a checking-line role.’

Sabres down Penguins 3-2 in a shootout

‘Pittsburgh’s Kris Letang scored the first goal of the shootout in the second round of attempts. The Penguins opted to shoot first, giving Tage Thompson the opportunity to keep the shootout going and the Sabres in the game, which he did with a goal in the bottom of the second round. Three scoreless rounds would go by until after a miss from Dominik Kahun in the top of the sixth round, Casey Mittelstadt put home a back-hand to end the contest and send the Sabres home with a victory.’
