‘”Early on I had that fast start and guys immediately start to look at you for goals and points,” Sheary, who was acquired from the Penguins in June 2018, told The Buffalo News. “I’ve never been a superstar in this league, so I don’t know what it’s like to be Jack [Eichel], [Jeff Skinner] or [Sam Reinhart]. But I think if I can contribute in the second tier, and if I can bring those second-tier goals it will be important. I just have to stick to my game.”‘

Marcus Johansson emerges as intriguing candidate to play center for Sabres
‘”I don’t think playing center was the biggest challenge tonight,” Johansson said. “It was mostly getting into game tempo and timing and all that. I felt for the first half of the game I was a little lost out there. Everything is kind of new. The systems, playing center and all that. And it’s been a while since I played. It took a little bit. Felt better as the game went on. Need a few more games before it’s time to go, but it was fun to be out there.”‘
Sabres’ Marcus Johansson learned from short tenure with Bruins
‘“Kind of made me feel like myself again,” said Johansson, who made his preseason debut in Saturday’s 5-3 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs inside KeyBank Center. “Coming off all those injuries it was hard to kind of get into any rhythm of playing.”’
Sunday’s Toronto Coverage
Victor Olofsson’s 2nd goal seals it late in the 3rd period
‘The third period saw a goaltender change for the Leafs as Michael Hutchinson saw more time against the Sabres. The two teams went about half a period without any scoring until Sam Reinhart threw a nice cross-ice pass to Jimmy Vesey for a breakaway. He sniped Hutchinson glove side to put the Sabres ahead. Around two minutes later, Jake Muzzin deposited Victor Olofsson into the Leafs team bench and Trevor Moore tied the score. Late in the period, Reinhart made another nice pass, this time to Victor Olofsson, who potted his second goal of the game to put the Sabres ahead for good.’
Sabres’ Marcus Johansson will get more time at center
‘I thought the new Sabre did a pretty good job in between Victor Olofsson and Ramus Asplund. The Swedes seem to communicate well until midway through the third period when Olofsson was deposited into the Leaf bench by Jake Muzzin and Trevor Moore scored.’
Three Observations: Krueger’s philosophy, the Sabres’ power play, and Johansson’s role
‘Eichel and Reinhart stayed together and were joined by former New York Ranger Jimmy Vesey on the left wing. Skinner, meanwhile, was on a line with seventh overall pick Dylan Cozens and Evan Rodrigues. It’s early, and lines are always subject to change, but Krueger has stayed dedicated to his original plan.’
Olofsson’s two goals powers Sabres past Leafs
‘The two fan bases were also in the spirit, trying to over power one another with their “Let’s Go Buffalo!” and “Go Leafs Go!” chants.’
4 Storylines to watch as the Sabres wrap up the preseason
‘Pressed again on whether Johansson will see more time at center before the regular season, Krueger responded, “I believe we’ll be looking at another game of that. It gives us an exciting option to put the lineup in a different color. I think we all know that the depth through the center helps us and we’re leaning towards giving him another look that way.”’
‘Dangerous’ Olofsson scores twice in preseason win over Leafs
‘”Victor is just permanently dangerous,” Krueger said. “He’s a shooter, which we saw twice today. In practice we’ve been watching it. We’ve seen it in the other games already. He’s a threat all the time.”‘
