The problem I have is that you can clearly see the Sabres are better than every team near them in the standings but managed to piss an entire year of everyone’s lives right down the toilet.  This team should be sitting comfortably in a playoff spot.  Instead our kids couldn’t figure out how to get motivated to not be down 2-0 in 30 freaking games.  Part of it is on the GM for not bringing in the leadership and players they needed to get over the hump. Part of it is on Granato for NEVER figuring out how to ensure they didn’t barf all over themselves in the first 10 minutes of every game.  Part of it is on players like Kyle Woe-Poso and Erik “where’s my” Johnson for fostering resentment toward fans and not getting this team where it should be.  There is nothing indicating anything has changed.

This is totally on point.  The crises with the Sabres is one of leadership, top to bottom.  They have assembled some very good talent, which is clearly not enough.  I have no remaining confidence that the leadership of this organization, from players to coaches to front office to ownership are capable of taking the next steps.

The most jarring thing for me to hear was this….

Donnie was discussing the boos and that the players don’t like being booed and it hurts.

For me that’s a problem but whatever.

In explaining it further he said this (essentially):  “Several of these guys decided on extensions before going to market because they want to be here…so it hurts.”

Ok.  I take that 100% to mean that came up in discussing this.

Someone legit said “we made a choice to stay in this dump of a city* and this is the thanks we get?”

*Make no mistake - it isn’t the organization that gives this team a recruiting problem it’s the area.  We had problems during the Hasek days trying to convince guys to come here.  I think Geoff Sanderson comes to mind as a guy that wasn’t sure.

Buffalo will always be my home despite having moved and I’ll defend it no matter what.  However the perception of the city is not good compared to other options in the league.  Maybe you’ll disagree but anyway…

Thoughts on this?  I’m completely blown away Donnie actually relayed that and that it was even said (presumably per DG).

I listened to this interview and it was very depressing.  It is clear that Granato is just clueless as to how to right this ship.  He rambled incoherently and could not make a solid point.  He just does not have a clue what is going on with this team.

It’s be nice if someone on the roster would take this stuff personal.  Maybe German penis boy wasn’t the reason the Sabres sucked when he was here.  Maybe the remaining players on the roster liked him.  (By all accounts that wasn’t the case) Can someone in the room generate some fake or god forbid real animosity toward the dude.  Like tell yourself he was the reason things sucked and get mad.  I never see any passion from these dudes. Occasional Tuch or Cozens but not much else.

Attitude reflects leadership.  Pretty sure I heard that somewhere ..

    In Summary:

Out: Eichel (cup), ROR (cup MVP), Reinhart (finals), Montour (finals), Risto, Ullmark.

In: Levi (prospect), TT (great), Tuch (good), Rosen (prospect), Kulich (prospect).

We were almost a competent team.

If you think the Sabres were anywhere near a competent team with the players you are crying about then there is clearly no discussion to be had.  They had talent, but were not even close to being competitive, and all you mention had given up on the Sabres.  It was going nowhere.  There was no coming back from the team building and coaching mistakes made by both Murray and Botterill.

I don’t think he plays much against top lines like Muel does.

Muel plays over 22 minutes a game.

    Clifton around 17.

Don’t get me wrong I think he can play there in a pinch all I’m saying is we are still looking for a partner for Power.

You may be right in the long term, but in the short term this is the Sabres solution.  Clifton fills several holes for buffalo in the short term, and has certainly shown the ability to step up to a 4D role.  He will be given every opportunity to step up to this role on a nightly basis.  Very solid move i think.  You should not expect another signing or trade this year for a “4D”.

I will not be giving to any charities After witnessing my father die in front of me When I had to wait for an ambulance for 20 minutes .

No one will ever get a cent out of my pocket ever again

I will buy you liquor if you want

I have to say, I watched my father die in front of me when I was 15, so I feel for you.  However,  I cannot even imagine how that creates a reason for a total lack of empathy for other people.  Your explanation for not wanting to ever give to any charity is absurd.

Difference between “want” to and “plan” to.

He’s going to be a few months from essentially ufa by going back.

    I think he’s gonezo

I agree.  He shoveling BS.  If he had any interest in signing with the Sabres, it would be done by now.  There is zero advantage to returning to MN other than achieving UFA status at this point.

He’s going to be a UFA with 32 NHL teams to choose from.  There are a million reasons why a UFA would choose one of the other 31 teams.

I can’t speak for the other pessimists, and I don’t think this means the franchise is doomed, but I don’t see how anyone could interpret this as anything other than the Sabres probably losing a very good prospect.  No more, no less.

    Unfortunately very probably true.

That is when a parent corrects a child.  Too me Jack is still a child.   Jack had an opportunity to congratulate the opponent, wish the fans well, and be positive and classy.

Instead he lashed out with sarcastic comments.  Not a leader of men at all.

He is and always has been a selfish, arrogant , Masshole.  Nothing has changed.  He never once took responsibility for his failure as leader in the poor performance of the team.  I doubt he even understands it.  He quit on the team, failed in his role, and now chooses to trash the fans.  I was happy he was cut loose and I am very happy with the return thus far.  Tuch provides more value to a winning culture than Eichel ever would.

  10. Nylander always struck me as entitled and possessing of a very poor work ethic.  I was not all surprised he failed once those traits became apparent.  I don’t know if he showed up like that or the organization somehow taught him that behavior, but my bet would be in the former given changing organizations did not help him.

Bolded is tiring. I've posted countless times that I feel there IS blame on both sides.

I have heard from several sources I trust, including from in and around this board, that Adams was the impetus behind moving Jack. Is that true? We can't really know right now. But we also can't know that Jack ever said "I don't want to be here anymore". Do we agree it's hypothetically possible to choose to keep your disenfranchised player, in an effort to repair the relationship? I believe there is precedent for other, disgruntled players, to change their tune. I am of the opinion, if it was me, I would have kept the player. Of course this is built on incomplete info re: who Jack is behind the scenes, but so is the other side of the coin.

With all due respect, your "there are two people here" thing is a mis-fire. It is only my argument thus far that has a bottom-line of objectivity - Adams should be judged on the results.

Your "Adams had no choice" argument actually makes it so that only one side can have fault.

Per Eichel today, he asked to be traded, before last season.
