  1. Stewart is a top 6 guy talent wise but is like Stafford in that he's not always motivated. When he's on, he's a VERY good power forward who throws crushing checks and gets into the dirty areas. He's also a guy who will drop the gloves and equate himself well when his team needs a lift. I think Ted Nolan will have more success with him than Hitchcock did, though the Sabres might try to flip him.

The Blues had to trade players on the roster - I think they had less than a million in cap space.

Getting another first is a big deal, though St Louis is a very good team so the pick will be late.

  2. that was an awful call on the trip to kubina, but no worse than briere throwing himself in to the crease earlier in the game

you guys have to start seeing it both ways - this game is not being officated in either teams' favor. i'm sure nobody noticed the quick hook that Hecht got away with about 20 seconds after the Kubina tripping call

You mean like when Spacek got called for a high stick because the Leaf grabbed his stick and proceeded to whack himself in the face with it?

Or how about 20 seconds before the 5-on-3 when Steen clearly interfered with Drury, ripping his stick out of his hands in the process.

Or Vanek getting viciously cross-checked while scoring?

I see the game both ways, every night except when we play Toronto and it's CLEARLY not officiated fairly.

  3. Carolina is still a good team that is going to force errors and create chances. But on the whole, I thought we took the play to them and outplayed them most of the night. Who is this Thomas Vanek guy? We could have used him last spring.

I'd say the reason we're seeing "this" Vanek guy is because we didn't see him last spring. I'm quite sure that's the very first time in his life he'd ever been seriously disciplined where hockey is concerned - and he's responded.

  4. Thanks for the support :)

And I WILL be back. I have a lot to say about hockey, and a lot of questions too :o

Cool by me. Anyone who loves hockey and is intelligent is always welcome - regardless of who they root for (even Leafs' and Flyer fans - not that I've seen any evidence of intelligence with either).

  5. AD, show some "sportsmanship". If the players have to exercise some professionalism, then so should the fans.

Trust me, worse things than this were uttered on the ice tonight. I guarantee it.

I have nothing against the current version of the Red Wings, since now they actually have to play by the same rules everyone else does. When they were spending 300% more a year than we were, it was another story. Had Yzerman been in the shootout, it would have gone Assclown, Assclown, the Captain, Assclown.

Nothing to do with sportsmanship. I couldn't remember who shot first and didn't want to call him an assclown and leave his teammates out.

  6. 2 things:

    1. How are we tied in this game?

Miller and Special Teams. Mostly Miller.

    2. Does anyone else have a sudden feeling of optimism about the uniforms everytime the announcer says the sabres are changing? Maybe it's the beer....

    It's not the alcohol.

  7. Like I said... Dont worry about your PP :)

But just a warning. The Detroit Red Wings are a THIRD period team. We will bring it in the 3rd. I hope the Sabres do too. This game really got interesting. And I expected NO less ;)

Sabres are also a third period team. Ask Montreal.

  8. Why isn't anyone in the chat room?

You should have seen the Red Wings 1st game vs. the Canucks. Phantom calls, bad plays, etc.

I watched the second and third of that game. Wings were like 0-for-9 or something on the PP. Luongo was pretty damn good that night. Wings moved the puck pretty well during the time I was watching.

  9. So what else is new? :(

Not much. Detroit is talented enough that they don't need the officiating inequity. If you're going to call the ticky-tack stuff, call it both ways. Lidstrom got his stick on Pom's hands on the partial break. That's a penalty. Pom was clearly interfered with at about 30 seconds left in the first, with a chance to create a chance. That's a penalty. The call on Spacek was crap. The no-call on Draper, followed by TWO penalties against us on the same sequence is crap.

Frankly, I'm getting a bit sick of it.

  10. It was a "We're down 2 goals and need someone to fire us up" fight.

Exactly right. An "Old Time Hockey" move that seldom gets used in this day and age. Nowadays, the team with momentum rarely sends out their guy because it works so damn well for the trailing club. Just another reason to hate Gary Bettemen.

  11. Once again, Sabres just can't put 60 minutes together.

This team has 44 wins and 5 "ties" - that's 49 games they've gotten points out of 66 played. That's a whole lot of times putting 60 minutes together. They'd won eight straight coming into this game and had the best record in the NHL since their slow start.

The negative nancy act gets really old when a team has played as hard and as well as this one has this season. It's a long season and they get a mulligan for not having "it" tonight but still being in it all the way to the last shift. They ain't all gonna be pretty.
