  1. His last gig in a familiar place.  A little too cozy for my liking, but who the heck else (who's not from WNY) would want a job where you get to spend every winter in f ing WNY other than someone who already knows the area and therefore can get past the weather negative??   Players/Coaches, not easy to get them to B Lo i would imagine; B Lo must be on every rock-star players'  "no-trade" list.   Poorly run franchise in a highly negatively perceived (not valid, but real) area.   Let's hope he can get them to the next level.

Not sure if you are being serious or sarcastic, but yes, the next 5 - 15 games will tell us a lot more about the team than the 1st 15 told us.  MHO, YMMV.

agreed.  last season at this point, they went sideways for a month.  I am assuming, if healthy, that does not happen between now and year end.  Goaltending is better, that should make most of the difference.  then they get Quinn back.

  3. Put 15 lbs of muscle on him (a half a dozen Sabres need this, btw) and give him decent linemates... then and only then can he be assessed.   The first item he can control, the second, not sure that will happen.

He probably is an throw in, in a trade for a top D with a team short on centers.   Unfortunate, but whatever.

Can someone explain to me why they shouldn't?

    - He sucks At coaching

    -  Horrible in game adjustments

    -  Loves leaving the goaltender in  To ruin the confidence and not wake up the team

    -  Has zero clue how to teach defense

    - Doesn't hold anybody accountable

    -  And the team is soft as butter and has zero heart

    *Cherry on top*

The player that he  Pounded the table for is out of shape!!!!( Granato said it himself)

Other teams in the NHL fire their coach for failed seasons but buffalo Reward them

( Great development coach That's it.)

*I'm sure I missed a ton of points so add on*

Sorry for the rant I'm an angry old man and I'm p*****

    yes, you are.

relax, no coaching revolving door please.   Levi will plug the hole in goal and all will be well.

The same Buffalo fans that said Josh Allen would fail, Patrick Kane couldn't help are saying don't play Levi. Fear doesn't win championships.

Put him in the net.   He has been the man in college, from everything I've read, he's the real deal, is mentally very good and can translate to the NHL right away.  His d was lousy at NE, so seeing a lot of shots won't matter to him.   Doesn't seem like the NHL level will affect him mentally, which is the big concern I guess.

    Arttu! Where are you?

    Switzerland. The answer is Switzerland.

There goes a great name and a very good AHLer (he rose to the challenge of the playoffs quite nicely). He never got the top six look in Buffalo (mostly lined up with Bjork and/or Hayden) that would have been required to showcase his offense. Maybe this season would've worked as a 13F and rolling four attacking lines. But alas --- best of luck to him.

definitely not the worst place in the world to end up.

Which players currently skating for the team do you consider "Sabres"?  Let's use today's practice lines as a start.

    Skinner-Thompson-Tuch
    Mittelstadt-Cozens-Okposo
    Asplund-Krebs-Olofsson
    Bjork-Eakin-Hayden
    Jankowski-Hinostroza

    Dahlin-Bryson
    Samuelsson-Fitzgerald
    Hagg-Pysyk
    Miller-Butcher

    My grouping:

    Sabres

    • Skinner
    • Thompson
    • Tuch
    • Mittelstadt
    • Cozens
    • Okposo
    • Krebs
    • Dahlin
    • Bryson
    • Samuelsson
    • Fitzgerald

    On the bubble

    • Asplund
    • Olofsson
    • Jankowski
    • Hinostroza
    • Pysyk

    Fire them into the sun

    • Bjork
    • Eakin
    • Hayden
    • Hagg
    • Miller
    • Butcher

I don't have a hard definition of what a Sabre is but the following thoughts come to mind

    • I want them on the team
    • They have enough talent to be on the team going forward (part of the solution, not the problem)
    • They're not a transitional piece (Okposo being an exception; he may not be around after his contract is up, but hey, he's a Sabre.)

    Bubble players

    • More transitional in nature
    • Don't care if they stay or go

    Fire them into the sun

    • Self-explanatory

agree.  fire into sun group replaced next year by UPL, Power, Quinn, Peterka, Murray and couple FAs .   Team instantly is younger, faster and much bigger.   Probably struggle another year, but man that's a lot of young talent in one place.

Casey’s bonehead play against St Louis is still bugging me.  As soon as I saw the bad pass I knew it would cost us the game.  I also was annoyed that Granato failed to pull the goalie earlier when we had them hemmed in their zone with two minutes left.

These are the types of errors that good teams with good coaches don’t make.  So I ask when do we stop making those mistakes.  Why didn’t Casey just send the puck in deep in a tie game?  Why wasn’t DG aggressive when the team has nothing to lose?

Obviously personnel remains an issue.  We are fielding the worst line in hockey each night.  Our defense outside of Dahlin and Jokiharju is either young or exceedingly mediocre.  The goaltending remains bad.

Despite these handicaps we are in most games most nights.  When do the lights go on and we start winning those close games?  Is Granato part of the problem or is this mostly a roster issue?  Does he know NHL skills but not NHL strategy? Is his and KA’s attitude that wins and losses don’t matter right now part of the problem as well? Do we not have the right vets here to teach the kids to win like Drury did?

Probably be a couple of seasons from now.  It's totally a roster issue.  UPL, Levi, Power, Samuelsson, Quinn, Peterka need to have replaced the career AHLers on the ice now and have a season or two of NHL play and conditioning under their belt.  Took a long time to break it and will take a long time to build it back.  Granato is like a teacher/mentor , the team is buying into the fact that W/Ls are not the goal this year, they have a ton of young talent and that the inflection point is coming.   Sure they could play the trap all game and eek out a few wins and hold back the players growth (ie, go back to KruegerVille) , but they are going for a fast exciting scoring team full of talent.  They are doing it the right way.  Pegs should be giving the tickets away this year and next, but that's a different issue.

    And yet we have:

Bjork-Ruotsalainen-Hayden  at 54.2% xGoals ratio with nearly the same number of minutes played.  So clearly:

    1. Eakin drives down the line

    2. The Sabres have been playing relatively worse since their injuries blew up (Hinostroza, Goalies, Miller, etc.)

Bjork seems to be OK defensively. And Hayden seems to be one of our few relatively tough guys. Eakin needs to be replaced.

Next year they should be bench-warmers once we have Quinn, Peterka, R2, and Hinostroza(resign please) playing ahead of them.

exactly, everyone chill out.   Once Power, Sammy, UPL, Quinn, JJ and R2 are up for good next year, all will be well.  Sabres being patient, just building a roster with patience.  I like it.  So many top prospects.

  10. don't really care one way or the other.   Give me Quinn and Murray as soon as possible.  So many of the current roster will be irrelevant once APL, Levi, Power, Quinn, Murray, Samuelson, etc come up for good.  Today's roster , with a few exceptions is not at all tomorrows roster.  Looking forward to it.

  12. My bounce on Sabres losing Eichel is I felt years ago they lost the day the tank only got them the #2 pick and Eichel.  With Oilers/Sabres coming soon, wanted to put out there the only worthy prize for the tank season was McDavid , and they missed.   McDavid is a one of kind talent and 5x the player Eichel is.   I watch Oilers highlights whenever I can to marvel at the guy's talent.

So I have no qualms losing Eichel, as the Sabs lost this one years ago.
